Pupils will be able to express their likes and dislikes within the class setting and expand to others in the wider school.  Pupils will also be able to take meaning from their daily routines and begin to be able to sequence what they do  in their daily lives.  Pupils will learn the differences between family and friends and what makes someone family, they will also look at their relationships and how they differ. This will lead to a greater understanding of themselves and their families and how they fit into society and the wider world. 

Pupils will be able to understand where they live, as part of the UK and the world.  They will explore different types of houses and design and build a model of their house. Pupils will have the opportunity to explore the local area and  access some facilities which it provides. Pupils will explore a range of transport methods available to them. The pupils will finish the topic learning about those who help us in the community and how they can access help when needed.

Pupils will have had the chance to explore various types of weather and to have begun to consider their causes. Pupils will use their senses to explore and create their own weather sensory bottles and means of measuring weather. Pupils will also explore weather from all over the world and the causes and effects of extreme weather.  Pupils will be introduced to the water cycle and the importance of water to the world.  

Pupils will be able to match baby animals to the parents and explore growth and development of animals and humans.  Pupils will have understood what a pet is and how pets need caring for.  Pupils will research various habitats for animals and explore why these are important to their survival.  The story of Noah's Ark will be explored. 

Pupils will be able to understand and discuss various modes of transport.   Pupils will have had the chance to explore what transport they use when making journeys.  Pupils will also explore the environmental factors associated with different means of transport. Pupils will learn about the safety of crossing roads and experience this out in the community.

Pupils will be able to understand the meaning of the words ‘same’ and ‘different’. Pupils will have explored this in a multisensory way: through colours, shape, animals and their senses.  Pupils will look for/identify and celebrate differences between themselves and their peers.  Pupils will explore what will change as they grow up to prepare them for the future changes to their lives and bodies.

This scheme of work aims to teach the meaning of communication, the different types of communication and the importance of visuals, checklists and social stories in students’ lives. In the end, the students will be able to perform basic computer functions like copying and pasting, saving, opening and printing their work. Some will be able to create their visuals, checklists and social stories to support their needs.

This scheme of work aims to teach what recording means, the related concepts of play, record, stop and pause as well as how to modify an existing track. In the end, the pupils will be able to perform basic recording functions as well as common computer functions. Some will be able to make changes on their track.

This scheme of work aims to teach the pupils how to take photos, record a video, search for information, have fun and learn using an Ipad. In the end, the pupils will be able to perform basic functions on an Ipad without adult support. Some pupils will be able to download educational and entertaining applications to reinforce their learning and support their wellbeing.

Pupils will explore the five senses (touch, taste, sight, smell and hearing). Pupils will use their senses to interact with the world and consider how people manage with a loss of a sense. Pupils will start to learn about how our senses work.

Pupils will learn about everyday materials including wood, plastic, metal, water and rock. Pupils will have the opportunity to explore the properties of these materials and sort them according to different criteria.  Pupils also will carry out a simple investigation to help them decide which material would be most suitable for various purposes.

Pupils will explore the bodies needed for food and drink.  Pupils will learn about the importance of a healthy diet and exercise and apply this to their ownl lives.

Pupils will explore life cycles of varying animals and consider how animals change over time. This will  then be applied to the human life cycle and RSE links made to support pupils' understanding of human development and growth, including puberty.


 

Pupils will expand their ability to sort/classify key features. Pupils will explore characteristics, similarities and differences.  

Pupils will learn about forces, friction and magnetic attraction. They will learn about forces in the context of pushing and pulling.  Pupils will  develop the ability to work  scientifically and collaboratively to investigate forces and magnets.

Pupils will have explored emotions and the different relationships within families/households via role play activities, allowing them the opportunity to develop their empathy skills. Pupils will have retold and acted out key scenes from various stories and explore relationships and how the different characters were feeling in the scenes.

Performance based unit. Pupils will have worked as a group to choreograph a class dance, learned the dance, prepared to perform their scene and taken part in either an in person or  virtual performance. Pupils will also have designed their character including any costume and make up. Pupils will have considered what props and scenery they might need and will have taken part in producing these. 

Music based unit through which students will explore weather and nature sounds, they will also have recreated weather and nature sounds using instruments, identifying different weather and nature sounds as well as sounds in the school environment.

Dance based unit through which students will explore how different animals move. Students will have looked at videos of animals moving and compared this with performers moving as animals in clips from shows like The Lion King and Cats. Students will have used descriptive language to discuss the movements animals make and will attempt to copy these movements. Students will have combined animal movements to create a dance.

A performance based unit, pupils will plan, rehearse and perform a music and dance based show for either the members of the school community or parents, based on a topic of their choosing and working collaboratively across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Through teamwork pupils will choreograph class dances, they will consider either the use of musical instruments or signing to enhance their performance as appropriate. Pupils will reflect on their performances and give feedback on what went well and what they could change in the future.

Pupils will have explored different types of holidays and had the opportunity to share their own experiences.  Pupils will look back at holidays from the past and compare them to the present. Pupils will learn  aspects of safety including the importance of knowing their names and address. Pupils will explore writing and sending postcards/e cards/messgaes.

Pupils will explore and become aware of a variety of religions and learn about the stories and beliefs associated with them. Pupils will also explore and learn about various festivals and celebrations.  Pupils will consider the religious and cultural links, this will include visits to various places of worship as well as making foods and items from different religions. 

Pupils will have learnt about many types of growing.  Pupils will understand how their own bodies have changed since they were born and how it will continue to change as they get older. They will explore puberty and how they need to care for their bodies differently as they grow.  Pupils will also learn what is needed in order for plants to grow as well as life cycles of various animals. 

Pupils will have explored what an environment is and looked at different types of environments and habitats. Pupils will consider ways to look after the environment including recycling, reducing and reusing , pupils will then take part in an activity to help look after the environment. 

Pupils will have explored patterns and prints in a wide variety of situations and have developed their ability to communicate about what they see, hear and experience.   Pupils will be able to recognise primary and secondary colours and will have the opportunity to explore patterns and prints in nature. Pupils will explore patterns and prints through music, nature and textiles. 

Pupils will have explored the word ‘change’ and the various things this could be applied to.  Pupils will explore changes to themselves from when they were born until the age they are now and then look to the future for changes that will happen as they grow older. They will learn and experience how to care for themselves with greater independence.   Pupils will learn to see changes as a positive  and not something that needs to cause worry. Pupils will learn strategies of how to cope with change and how to communicate their feelings towards change.

This scheme of work aims to teach what websites are safe or unsafe, what we use the Internet for and the different forms of online communication. They will also learn the risks that are associated with online communication and how to protect themselves. In the end, some pupils will be able to seek support and explain if something seems wrong.

This scheme of work aims to teach the concepts of PowerPoint slide, slideshow and presentation. The pupils will gain knowledge about Powerpoint and be able to perform basic functions like typing, copying, pasting, saving, opening, changing the font and inserting pictures and slides. In the end, some pupils will be able to use various slide designs, transitions and animations. They will also be able to present a PowerPoint presentation in front of an audience.

This scheme of work aims to teach what computer music means and the related concepts of tune, tempo, composing, track and editing. The pupils will understand how to use FlexiMusic Kids composer to play and stop tracks, add tunes, change the tempo, make and edit their own music. The pupils will also learn music-related vocabulary and be able to use it in everyday life.

By the end of this topic pupils will have had the chance to explore a variety of sources of light using a multi-sensory approach and have begun to understand the importance of light in the world around them. They will have identified and classified different objects in their ability to emit light and will develop their understanding of what light is. They will use experimentation to study the effects of light in nature and will use their observations to generate ideas and answer questions. Pupils will also explore the relationship between light and shadow and begin to understand how shadows in the environment are formed.

Pupils will be able to know if an item uses electricity or not to work.  They will know that electricity can be dangerous and that electricity can produce light, heat, sound, movement. Pupils will have the opportunity to connect given circuit components and contribute to class discussion and questioning.

Pupils will explore a variety of ways to identify, sort, group and classify living things. Pupils will explore a range of habitats and the key features.  Pupils will group, identify and name living things from the local habitat and beyond.

Pupils will explore key features of varying environments. Pupils will explore ecological challenges that face the world. Pupils will engage with a variety of activities that challenge them to engage with environmental issues and to understand the simple changes we can make to live more sustainable lives.

Pupils will explore the main features of the human body and how they work. This will extend to cover aspects of RSE including ownership of their body, public and private and changes that have and will happen to their body through puberty.

English is  taught four times a week in Pathway 1. English follows the Themed Learning topics so pupils can explore these in greater depths and create links in their understanding and learning. English focuses on: speaking and listening, reading and writing and is taught according to the needs of each pupil.  English is taught by the pupils’ form tutor. More individualised information can be found out by contacting the form tutor.

Reading Intervention

Reading Intervention occurs each morning and entails a combination of group, pair and individual reading as well as focusing on writing, communication and comprehension. Pupils learn in different ways and this is reflected in how we offer Reading Intervention.  We run phonics programs, Rapid Readers and Reading and Learning Intervention (RLI). Please contact the pupils form tutor for more personalised information.

Pupils will have learnt about their school.  They will explore their school community and the  wider local  community.  Pupils will learn about various jobs within schools.  Pupils will explore similarities and differences between schools now and schools from Victorian times. 

Pupils will have explored what is special to them and understand that others have differences and similarities to them.  Pupils will explore each other's interests and share what they enjoy.   Pupils will explore important information including their full name and address.   Pupils will explore how different families and different people celebrate in different ways. 

Pupils will explore their senses through a variety of tasks both in the classroom,  school and  the wider community.  Senses will be used as the basis to explore language and communication to introduce new language and means of communicating with each other.  Senses will also be explored in relation to design technology where fabric and materials will be explored to consider their texture and properties.  

Pupils will have researched various buildings from ones they can see and experience directly to others all over the world.   Pupils will explore religious buildings and important buildings in the local area.  Along with this pupils will learn about the roles of the emergency services and other important features in the local area. 

Pupils will understand what a habitat is and will have explored many different habitats.  Pupils will compare and contrast habitats and explore how some have changed over time and assess if the changes have caused issues for wildlife. Pupils will have the opportunity to create their own habitats and learn about what makes each habitat suitable for its occupants.  

Pupils will have learnt what the terms old, new, past and present mean and relate them to themselves and their lives.  Pupils will have explored toys from Victorian times and compared them to toys today. Pupils will also learn about modes of transport and compare those from the past to the present day.

E-Safety

This scheme of work aims to teach the computer parts and their uses. It also aims to teach the basic functions of Word. The pupils will be able to type words and sentences, change the text and insert shapes and pictures. The pupils will learn to share their interests, likes and dislikes before they type or insert pictures on Word.

This scheme of work aims to teach the pupils how to use art based ICT programs to draw a variety of pictures and sceneries. The pupils will learn the main features of each program and be able to use them effectively. They will also learn relevant vocabulary which will be useful in everyday life. Some pupils will understand what 3D drawing is and be able to describe their drawings in detail.

This scheme of work teaches basic functions such as voice recorders,calendar, calculator, alarms and clocks, weather, notepad, photo viewer, windows media player and how they can be used in daily life. 

This scheme of work aims to teach how to search for information on the Internet, how to use Google Maps and how to access online shopping websites.  E Safety is a key area explored here to keep safe when online. 

This scheme of work aims to teach the pupils directional language, control and basic programming. The pupils will be able to turn on/off and control electronic toys and electrical equipment. They will be able to follow given directions and understand the uses of electronic toys and electrical equipment. In the end, some pupils will also be able to provide directions to others and use electrical equipment safely and independently.

This scheme of work aims to teach what personal information is, who is safe or unsafe to share this information with and the dangers of sharing this information with strangers. It also aims to teach the meaning of cyberbullying and online grooming. In the end, some pupils will be able to express their concerns to an adult if something does not seem right.

Pupils will learn the importance of and how to keep healthy.  This will cover physical and mental health.   Pupils will explore varying aspects of health and be able to identify some common hazard symbols. Pupils will also develop their observational and research skills.

By the end of the topic pupils will have experienced a range of sounds and explored making and changing them. Pupils will learn what causes sound and how it travels.  Pupils will be able to recognise various warnings and develop the skill of prediction.

Pupils will learn about the differences between solids, liquids and gases. Pupils will classify objects and identify their properties. Pupils will work scientifically and collaboratively to investigate.

By the end of this topic pupils will be able to recognise that different animals eat different foods. Pupils will explore new terminology and develop their sorting and categorising skills.  Pupils will know that teeth and claws are used in different ways by different animals and consider the reasons for this.

By the end of the topic pupils will have a greater understanding of Earth and its place in our Solar System. Pupils will research and extend their awareness of the world and space. Pupils will explore and make models of the Earth and planets in the solar system.

By the end of the topic pupils will develop their skills in identifying, observing and describing plants. Pupils will explore how plants function and conduct experiments to support this.

Performance

Music and drama based units, pupils will be able to show awareness of rhyme by identifying words that rhyme in poems and songs. Pupils will create sounds using instruments including playing along to music demonstrating some awareness of rhythm. Pupils will also begin to explore moving rhythmically to music.

Performance based unit. Pupils will have worked as a group to choreograph a class dance, learned the dance, prepared to perform their scene and taken part in either an in person or  virtual performance. Pupils will also have designed their character including any costume and make up. Pupils will have considered what props and scenery they might need and will have taken part in producing these. 

Dance and music based unit, pupils will have explored the senses of sight and sound through music and movement. Pupils will explore the sounds in their environment, identifying what they are; they will also explore the different sounds made by a variety of percussion and stringed instruments. Pupils will consider how we share information about movements and use descriptive language to share movements. Pupils will know the musical term ‘beat’ and begin to identify this in music. 

Music and dance based unit, students will work as a team to create a song and accompanying dance looking at the school rules. Students will put into practice prior learning on beat, melody and movement planning, promoting teamwork skills, creative thinking and beginning to gain some understanding of non-verbal communication. To review the school rules, supporting students with understanding what the rules mean and applying this to our actions.

A performance based unit, pupils will plan, rehearse and perform a music and dance based show for either the members of the school community or parents, based on a topic of their choosing and working collaboratively across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Through teamwork pupils will choreograph class dances, they will consider either the use of musical instruments or signing to enhance their performance as appropriate. Pupils will reflect on their performances and give feedback on what went well and what they could change in the future.

The activities suggested vary in difficulty and teachers will select the appropriate ones for their group and differentiate accordingly. Learning within PE utilises spiral learning, so key concepts and skills are retaught each time to counter regression and then to increase difficulty.
