Weekly Bulletin - Issue 29 - Friday 29 April 2022

Issue 29 - Friday 29 April 2022

Dear Families,

We were delighted to welcome nurses from the Dementia Team at Hillingdon Hospital to our whole school assembly this week. Our pupils are going to create designs that can be used to decorate memory bags, which will help people in hospital and the community who have Dementia. Our pupils conducted themselves so well, asking insightful questions and sharing their own experiences of dementia in such a lovely way. The team were extremely impressed.

As part of our continuing stepping down of Covid measures, we will be resuming whole school assemblies in person from next week. This will be the first time we have gathered as a school in this way for over two years. Where there are groups, or individuals, staff feel are not ready for this step we will be working with them towards the goal of them joining part or all of the assembly sometime this term. Next week will mainly be focused on getting people in and out of the hall safely to their assigned positions with a small presentation about Passover, Eid and Easter when we are all together.

Our first Duke of Edinburgh expeditions took place this week. I hope you saw the lovely photos on Twitter @MeadowSch showing how much the groups were enjoying themselves despite having to walk such a long way!

I would like to thank and congratulate Mrs Sugden for supporting the Signalong Group to develop their award system and for being one of the first schools in the world to achieve the GOLD Signalong Friendly status.  Signalong is used to support communication and can be especially useful when pupils do not understand or are upset.

May I take this opportunity to wish all our Muslim families Eid Mubarak for this weekend and to remind all families that we return to school on Tuesday 3rd May at 9am.

Pathway 1 - Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

KS5 Pathway 1 have completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition.  Both groups did an amazing job and should be very proud of themselves. All pupils pushed themselves and walked much further than we have seen before.  Well done to all :)

Creative employment training for disabled and neurodiverse People with Bua.

Bua aims to support disabled and neurodiverse people into entry-level creative roles. Current employment programmes targeting this group typically focus on hourly paid work (like retail), or salaried work (like technology consulting or coding). While these are both valid and needed, they can be limiting in choice. Bua aims to bridge this gap by supporting disabled and neurodiverse people into creative roles and salaried industries. Bua's courses are 100% online and have no entry requirements - simply sign up and go. They currently target 18-25 year olds, but can be used by any age. Everything can be completed flexibly. Each course also offers supporting assets, so students can learn in a way that suits them. Our aim is to build confidence and a portfolio for people to be able to enter salaried, creative and sustained employment. Bua offers creative employment training for disabled and neurodiverse people. VISIT:  https://learn.bua.org.uk/
