Issue 34 - Friday 13 June 2025

Dear Families,

I hope this bulletin finds you in good health and enjoying the warmer weather.

Recently, we are seeing a lot of pupils wearing non-school uniform items including hats, bracelets, hoodies, hoop earrings, extremely long nails and football tops.

Please ensure your child is correctly dressed for school. To aid you, I have included the main features of the pupil dress code for Years 7 to 11 for your information below.

There are also a number of optional items should you want them.

PLEASE ENSURE ALL ITEMS OF SCHOOL UNIFORM AND PE KIT ARE
CLEARLY LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD'S FULL NAME

Should you need to order more uniform, please go to https://www.mapac.com/education/parents/uniform/meadowhighschoolub83qw or buy plain non-branded equivalent options from high street stores.

Jewellery
NO rings / bracelets / hoop earrings / necklaces.
NO facial piercings (nose/lip/eyebrow etc)
YES to a watch / an item relating to the pupil’s religion (appropriate to school wear). If the items are unsafe for school or a school activity, the pupil will be asked to remove it.
YES to one small pair of stud earrings in the earlobe. NB: If children wear a stud/pair of stud earrings, there must be an understanding by parents/carers that the school will not be liable in the event of an accident/incident.

Please note that pupils will be asked to remove jewellery which does not comply with our policy. School will not be liable for any losses.

Makeup / Nail Varnish & Nail Extensions and/or Long Fingernails
If a student chooses to wear makeup, it must be discreet, no bright lipstick / eye makeup / false eyelashes.

Nails (be they natural or false/gel) must be kept short (no longer than fingertip length) and natural in colour. If a student comes to school wearing nail varnish, their Form Tutor or a member of SLT may ask the pupil to remove it with nail polish remover (Year 7 -11). If a student comes to school with nail extensions or long nails, a phone call home will be made to advise that false nails must be removed / shortened or natural nails clipped at the earliest opportunity. For clarity, fingernails should not protrude beyond the ends of the fingers.

Thank you for your support in this matter.

Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day

In assembly this week we focused on Tourette Syndrome. What it is, how it affects people and how others can support and respond appropriately.

What is Tourette Syndrome? A neurological condition.

Who does it affect?  Approximately 1% of the population.

What are the symptoms someone might experience with Tourette Syndrome?
Involuntary movements, often called tics and involuntary vocalisations.

VoCaL TiCs?! #tourettes - YouTube

Is there anything I shouldn't say to someone with Tourette Syndrome? Yes. There are 6 things that shouldn't be said. These are:

We also revisited our helpful saying 'If a person can't change something in 30 seconds or less, I shouldn't be mentioning it'

I hope you found this useful as well!

Best wishes for a lovely weekend.

From Garden to Fork:
Fresh, Organic Produce in Crunchy Munchy!

Today in Crunchy Munchy, we were excited to use fresh, completely organic produce straight from our very own Royal Lane garden. The crisp, home grown lettuce in our taco salad was harvested by a dedicated team of students and staff who have nurtured the garden with great care and commitment.

Thanks to their hard work, not only did we enjoy fresh, organic lettuce for our meal, but they’ve also successfully grown and sold radishes and wildflowers!

Staff loved the dish and appreciated the delicious, healthy flavours straight from the garden.

It’s wonderful to see our garden project thriving and bringing fresh flavours directly from the soil to our plates.

Amazing effort from everyone involved—here’s to many more harvests to come!

WizeUp Sessions
Empower Year 12/13 Students

This term, some of our Year 12 and 13 students took part in the WizeUp Programme, a series of engaging sessions aimed at equipping them with essential life skills for the future. The students thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, which covered a wide range of practical topics that will help them navigate the challenges of independence as they prepare for ‘Life Beyond Meadow’.

The WizeUp sessions covered a broad range of essential life skills, including effective communication and developing a growth mindset, budgeting and managing finances, understanding credit ratings and debt, the realities of minimum wage and tax, and the basics of employment rights. Students also gained practical insights into independent living, flat sharing, and managing living costs, as well as the differences between debit and credit cards. These sessions introduced our Year 12 and 13 students to the tools they need to confidently navigate the challenges of adulthood.

A big thank you to Laura from the WizeUp team for making these sessions so engaging and impactful!

Year 14 Visit to
The Marriott Hotel

Some Year 14 students visited The Marriott Hotel last week. It was amazing to see the internships available to our students and the opportunities that are available.

The students enjoyed a presentation from Mrs Simpson and two current interns in the conference suite. Then a lovely tour including a view from the rooftop gardens.

PETITION TO SAVE THE HILLINGDON RURAL ACTIVITIES GARDEN CENTRE

The Hillingdon Rural Activities Garden Centre is on the edge of being closed down.

We have been asked to share the petition to keep it running to benefit the local community, especially people with additional needs. Some of you know that our students go there for weekly work experience and this benefits them hugely.

Please see the link below, and please sign the petition. This link will ask for a small donation, but you don't have to donate (you can skip that).

Please sign the petition for RAGC to save it. If possible, share the link with family and friends.

You can also attend the protest on Thursday 26th June at 6pm outside the Civic Centre.
