    Listen to the story ‘give me half'

    • Discuss the meaning of a whole and a half? What does this look like? Can you find examples around your house?
       
    • Draw and cut out shapes and attempt to fold/ cut these in half
       
    • Do you know what a quarter is? What does this look like? Can you cut your shapes from halves into quarters?

    Create and decorate your own pizza! Either real or pretend!!

    • Think about what you know about fractions, make a pizza and cut it into enough equal pieces to feed your family. How many slices did you cut? Do you know what this is as a fraction? Remember to make sure each slice is equal!


    Number rhymes - sing the songs and practise your counting!

    • 20 fat sausages frying in the pan - cook some sausages and sing along to the song, remember to share them though!
       
    • 10 green bottles hanging on the wall - decorate and line up some plastic bottles to play!
       
    • 1,2,3,4,5, once I caught a fish alive - create some fish and float them in a small tub, practise catching them with a rod!

    Guess the shape and size

    • Put a selection of goodies on a tray without anyone seeing what’s on the tray. Blindfold the person or hold the tray on their lap sitting at a table, if they don’t like the blindfold cover with paper tissue to smell & taste].
    • Touch, smell, taste and guess what is on the tray, eat if you like it![Stay safe! -separate tray for each person]
       
    • Remember to use a variety of words to describe the shape and size. Challenge yourself and guess the weight too!

    Task 1: Healthy Packed Lunch  - Draw or create a packed lunch of healthy foods. What kind of foods are good for the body?

    Task 1: Rainbow fruit salad recipe  -  Why not make a rainbow fruit salad. Maybe try fruits that you have never eaten before.

    Task 2: Guess the missing food game - Here are the instructions:

    1. Set up a tray of about 9 items.
    2. All look at the tray of food items for 1 minute and then cover.
    3. While everyone else closes their eyes, eat or remove one.
    4. Then uncover and take turns to look and say what's missing.

    Task 3: Caterpillar Salad - Following on from the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ in the English activity section above, why not try and make your own salad using some of the ingredients in the story.

    Key Terms to try and learn:  These are good revision for storytelling from our Week 4 pack of work.

    noun = naming words eg pizza, burger, banana, cake

    verb = doing word eg The Trunchbull marched onto the platform

    adjective = describing word e.g. special, chocolate cake OR greedy little thieves

    adverb = tells you more about the verb eg the Trunchbull barked suddenly.

    simile = describing something by comparing it with something else          eg sneaked like a serpent

    punctuation = .   ,   ?   !   ‘  we need these to help the reader understand.

    Set yourself a budget of £1 a day, collect all your snacks into a basket and create a price list. Play shop and practise your money skills at home.

    Guess what is in the bag

    • Put a variety of food in a bag that you cannot see through e.g. whole fruits. Put your hand in the bag and think about guessing what item is. Can you describe the shape/size/weight.

     

    Make & play ‘Chocolate wrapper dominoes’

    • You need 28 mini chocolate wrappers, cut each in half across the word e.g.  BOU- - - NTY.
    • Stick 2 different halves onto a piece of card [end to end] e.g. SnickersBounty KERS/BOU
    • Cut out each card, keeping a different chocolate wrapper at each end joined up.
    • Cut out 4 of each kind of chocolate wrapper e.g. 4 Bounty wrappers, 4 snickers wrappers etc. make them up as 2 halves stuck together. 
    • You need  7 different types of chocolate bar wrapper altogether  e.g. 4 MARS   4 Malteeser  4 Bounty  4 Twix  4 Snickers, 4 Fudge, 4 Crunchie
    You need 28 cards altogether to  play dominoes. 7 x 4 = 28. Celebrations or fun size bars work well.

    Mrs Mistry drinks 3 cups of instant coffee at home, and twice a week she buys a coffee from Starbucks. How much money could Mrs Mistry save if she gives up coffee for 40 days? (Round the amount to the nearest penny) How much money would Mrs Mistry save if she gave up only buying from Starbucks?

    Food stimulus Dance

    To write a list of different types of foods and describe them using an adjective. Try to use a  texture, length, temperature, appearance. Choose a movement to represent each of these foods, changing the DYNAMICs of the move to suit it.
