Weekly Bulletin - Issue 37 - Friday 9 July 2021

Issue 37 - Friday 9 July 2021

Dear Families,

Covid

I am pleased to report that we have had no positive cases of Covid in our community since the last bulletin.  Additionally, none of those who were required to self isolate developed Covid.

We had a visit from the Environmental Health Team on Tuesday to look at our Covid response and risk assessment.  The feedback was good apart from more ventilation is needed in classrooms.  I have reminded staff to keep at least two windows open all day in their rooms and will be checking on this when I walk the site.  Obviously, in the colder weather, windows may be opened and shut periodically to ensure rooms are kept warm enough for pupils.

I am sure that many of you are happy to hear that the Government's stepping down plans are continuing.  However, despite the scheduled changes on the 19th July we are not making any changes to our Covid response this term as this would be confusing for our pupils.

We are awaiting confirmation of the plans regarding the requirement to isolate (or not!) and LFT / PCR testing for the Autumn term.  Once we have had official notification of this, we will notify you of our response.

Transition

This week, pupils transitioned for the day on Tuesday to their new tutor room and tutor group team.  It was a pleasure to see how confidently pupils coped with new rooms, new adults and new classmates.  Our new Year 7 did particularly well and I was very proud to see so many older pupils being kind and supportive to them about the school.

Uniform, Nails and Jewellery

I have noted that some pupils do not have the correct school or PE uniform.  Form tutors have been working with identified pupils,  but I would like to draw families' attention to the school policy on uniform, jewellery and nails.

Please ensure that your child has the correct school and PE uniform for September, that nails are not too long or pointed and that jewellery conforms to the policy.  Where the policy is not followed and pupils have previously had warnings regarding this, they will have to remain in class at break and lunchtime until the issue has been resolved.

I have included below some images of nails to give an indication of acceptable / unacceptable length and styles.

Acceptable

Unacceptable

Whilst we have allowed a greater degree of flexibility with regard to PE uniform, please ensure that your child has suitable clothing that conforms to the policy.

May we wish you all a happy and healthy weekend.

Headteacher

School Uniform Ordering

You can order Meadow High School uniform online through Mapac.com.   Please note the deadline of 2 August 2021 for items required for the start of September.

Plain items of uniform are available from Mapac.com or can be purchased from high street retailers.

Labelling Uniform

PLEASE REMEMBER TO CLEARLY LABEL EVERY ITEM OF SCHOOL UNIFORM WITH YOUR CHILD'S FULL NAME.   THERE IS A MUCH HIGHER CHANCE THAT LOST ITEMS OF UNIFORM CAN BE REUNITED WITH THE OWNER IF THEY ARE CLEARLY LABELLED.

Pre-printed iron on labels can be purchased from Mapac.com at the same time as you order uniform.  Write on/iron on labels can be purchased from high-street and online retailers too.

Thank you

Letter from Mapac - Summer 2021

Dear Customer,
As we approach the final few weeks of the summer term, we want to wish you a healthy and happy holiday period!
Despite the challenges faced by everyone this year, Mapac are more prepared internally than ever before, with more stock and improved procedures across the company.
Although restrictions are finally beginning to ease, this year has been one of the most challenging ever for the manufacturing industry. The price of raw materials including fuel and carriage have risen continuously and this does mean that we will need to make some small adjustments to our pricing. Most of our suppliers have increased their prices considerably already this year, however Mapac aim to only increase our pricing by around 3%.  Price increases to our customers will come in to effect on orders placed after the 6th of August 2021.
Once again we thank you for your continued support and wish you a wonderful summer!

 Meadow’s Fantastic Fiesta Day

Thursday 22 July 2021

Dear Parents / Carers,

As this has been a difficult year for many, we thought we’d see off the year with a big celebration! We have been busy organising a fun filled day, everyone will be off timetable for the day, form classes will run fun stalls, where the students will have the opportunity to play games as a reward for all of their hard work and determination this year.

Some of the stalls will have face painting, henna, glitter tattoos and nail painting. If your child is allergic or sensitive to these products, or you would rather your child not have these used, please fill in the opt out form at the bottom of the letter sent home today (Fantastic Fiesta Letter) and return to Mrs Mayall.

All students will have free lunch provided and then have treats to keep them cool in the afternoon, which will all be funded by the school and Friends of Meadow.

The fiesta day will be on Thursday 22nd July and students should come to school in non-uniform clothes.

If you have any questions regarding this feel free to contact me or your child’s form tutor.

Mrs K Mayall
Sixth Form Tutor

Our last day of term is

Friday 23rd July,
School finishes at 2pm

Students are asked to wear their house team colours to school.

There will be a bbq lunch
(see the lunch menu further down for more details about lunch)

Skittles Club

We are pleased to introduce our new “skittles'' club for members of the LGBT+ community and allies.

This will be running on Thursday afternoons by staff members.  This is a non-curriculum club with no discussion around sexuality or RSE.

It is set up as a community club so that students feel they belong.  Research shows that belonging to communities improves mental health and wellbeing. Members of the LGBT+ community as well as allies can attend and take part in activities such as making cookies, creating art work and working on inclusion projects.

Staff members are invited to support either as a member of the LGBT+ community or an ally.  If anyone requires any further information please contact Carol Mitchell or Michelle Taylor.

Thank-you

Class JE - PDSA Awards

Over the past year, Class JE have been taking part in various activities to achieve the PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals) Petwise award for the school.

The PDSA award consists of different levels bronze, silver and gold.  For each piece of work submitted points are gained to get closer to completing the course. The PDSA provided fantastic resources throughout the course.

Class JE have taken part in creating a display, designing posters, learning about animal Heros, learning how to look after different pets and lots more.  It was a huge piece of work which took the school year to complete.  We are waiting for our official lanyards and badges.

Well done class JE !

Real Life Hero Visits the Sixth Form

Lisa Mayo came to visit us , as our English group are currently studying real life heroes.  The class made a list of heroic jobs and on the list were lollipop ladies.

I called the road safety department at London Borough of Hillingdon and Lisa offered to come and visit us to take part in a discussion about the role of a school crossing patrol officer.

She was great and shared loads of information with the pupils and even helped us cross the zebra crossing correctly.  I think we may have few school crossing patrol officers in our midst !.

PS - We might be in the next 'Hillingdon People' magazine !
