Issue 36 - Friday 30 June 2023

Dear Families

This week we have bid a fond farewell to our pupils who are moving on from Meadow. Our annual leavers event to Brighton was not dampened by the weather and staff and pupils had a fantastic time together, this year with no seagull attacks! Our leavers assembly celebrated all the achievements and growth made by these young adults and gave us an opportunity to say personal goodbyes.

However, we are hopeful that we will stay in touch as we now have our Boomerang Club that ex-pupils can join. We are delighted that so many alumni of Meadow come back to see us and socialise with friends and even more delighted when we hear about their lives and how they are doing.

I have borrowed someone else's words as they have expressed so well, how we all feel,

Dear Families,

We give you back your children,

The same children you confidently entrusted to our care.

We give them back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser.

More responsible and more mature than they were back then.

Although they would have attained this growth in spite of us,

It has been our pleasure and privilege to watch their personality

Unfold day by day and marvel at this splendid miracle of development.

We give them back reluctantly,

For having spent many months together in the

Narrow confines of a school

We have grown close, become a part of each other,

And we shall always retain a little of each other.

Ten years from now if your child meets us on the street

AIt will bring a shine to our eyes, a smile to our lips,

And we shall feel the bond of understanding once more,

This bond we feel today.

We have lived, laughed, played, studied, shouted, argued, sang,

Hugged, tested, chatted and enriched our lives together over the years.

We wish it could go on indefinitely, but give them back we must.

Take care of them, for they are precious.

Remember that we shall always be interested in your children and their destiny,

Wherever they go, whatever they do, whoever they become.

Their joys and sorrows, we will be happy to share.

We shall always be their friend.

Very best wishes to you,

Mrs Rigby and all the team at Meadow

Reminder
Due to Strike Action Next Week

on Wednesday 5 July and Friday 7 July.

An email with a questionnaire was sent home earlier this week asking parents to identify if they were unable to make safe alternative arrangements for your child or whether you need a place for them in school on these days.

Library Update –
Fully Refurbished
and Open for Business!

Mission accomplished – with a little help from our Friends (of Meadow) and support from our governors!  On behalf of our students, I would like to extend our grateful thanks to all who helped make it possible for us to have this amazing new library.

We will be having an official grand opening in the Autumn term, but for now we are just enjoying this beautiful space.  It is hard to believe how far we have come since this time last year, and we definitely could not have achieved this without the help of the whole Meadow High School team; students, staff and our wonderful parents and carers.  Please follow this link to have a virtual guided tour!

Meadow High School Hello Youtube Channel
– New Stories to enjoy!

Stories for July: The library project has taken quite a bit of our time over the last couple of weeks.  We will be posting two new stories as usual; they will be available from 5th July.

The stories this month are:

{alt_tag}
{alt_tag}
{alt_tag}

Miss Gaafar is reading Clean Break by Jacqueline Wilson.  Jacqueline Wilson’s books are often about quite grown up topics. This story is about a young girl whose family are going through a break up.

Mrs Sugden is reading and signing the story There Is No Dragon In This Story.  This is about a dragon who is struggling to fit in.  He is fed up with everyone thinking dragons do bad things!

Eid Mubarak!

On Wednesday we celebrated Eid al-Adha at school. In class we learned about the story of Eid, and for lunch Mrs Cross and the kitchen team made some delicious Halal tikka wraps! To end the day, Mrs Mansoor hosted a very insightful assembly for all of our students, with some help from her form class - and taught us all about the journey of Hajj and shared her own Hajj experience with us.
