Issue 5 - Friday 6 October 2023

Dear Families

Yesterday we had our Meet the Tutor meeting.  I hope you found it useful and helpful to put a face to a name and a chance to have a chat.

It was really nice to see so many of you and thank you to all who added a comment to Ofsted.  If you didn't, you can still do this from home by clicking on this link: https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/login?destination=give-your-views

Unfortunately, we have had a number of pupils who have been unwell this week and a few pupils have had to go home as a result.  The NHS advice is that children should stay at home if they have a high temperature and that if a child is sick, they should not return to school for at least 48 hours.  Please do not send your child into school if they have either a temperature, or if they have been sick.  If your child is unwell, please call the school and leave a message to let us know what is wrong.  Covid rates are on the increase, both nationally and in this area, so it is also time to remind everyone about the importance of good hand hygiene and general personal hygiene, such as wearing clean clothing and throwing tissues into the general waste (not the recycling) bin.  If you care for someone who is vulnerable or disabled and have the NHS app you may be eligible to book a Covid jab now.  If you don't have the app you may be able to arrange this via your GP.

We are very concerned about pupils' safety in every way.  Online safety is a particular concern, as the internet web and app developers are creating new ways for people to interact online all the time.  Many of these are set up with good intentions, but not everyone who uses them has.  Often, children feel pressured to do things because they feel they have to.  Mr Rainsbury will be sharing information with you shortly about some coffee morning dates, where you can come into school to find out how you, as parents and families, can help keep children safer online.  Attached to this bulletin is some information about Sexting which, sadly, is increasing in all sectors of the online community.  The information tells you what sexting is and, at the end, there are some places (in addition to school) that you can go to if you have concerns and need help.  As a school, we will always report anything illegal that we become aware of, but we are also there to help and support both pupils and yourselves should you need us.

Hope you have a great weekend !

Kind regards

Ms C Caddell
Deputy Headteacher

A group of Pathway 1 KS5 pupils completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition.  They completed 2 nights, 3 days at Paccar Scout Camp. They hiked, took part in rock climbing, archery and even had a campfire.  There were some very tired people at the end, but all did amazingly well.
