Issue 34 - Friday 14 June 2024

Dear Families

I hope that all the families that joined Pam for her Annual Review meeting this week found it helpful and informative.

We have been asked to hold several other school sessions, and we will be seeking your views on what meetings / sessions are useful and which you might attend. Some suggestions so far are:
  1. A single Dads' group.

  2. Groups facilitated by a translator e.g. Somali, Hindi, Urdu etc.

  3. Groups focused on a particular diagnosis e.g. ASC, Downs Syndrome, ADHD etc.

  4. Groups to support families whose children exhibit behaviours that challenge at home and in the community
If you have some ideas, please let us know as we will be running lots more sessions next academic year.

Assembly

In assembly this week we celebrated World Oceans Day.  As well as looking at the diverse habitats and animal life across the world, this gave us an opportunity to think about how we can work towards keeping the oceans clean and healthy.

Pupils were asked to choose one commitment that they would make that would make a difference. The ones suggested were:
  1. To use a non-plastic reusable bottle

  2. To say no to straws, or to get a reusable non-plastic one

  3. To encourage their families to change over to reusable non-plastic shopping bags
As well as these suggestions that were given to the pupils, many of them came up with their own ideas.

Thank you to the 6th Form who helped me to create this prayer for the assembly:

Dear God,

On this World Ocean Day, when we are thinking about the beautiful creatures that swim in the seas, help us to be part of the healing and restoration of our planet.

Help us to make the changes that are needed to prevent the destruction of animals and habitats.

Help us as we learn to live in a more eco-friendly and sustainable way and please guide the scientists, researchers, climate activists and environmental advocates as they strive for a greener world for all.

Dear Lord, please help us to save our planet and all the life and beauty it holds.

Amen

Help Us Win £1000
for Our School Library

National Book Tokens

{item_alt_tag}
With the invaluable support from our families, our students and our Governors here at Meadow, we now have our brand-new library which opened its shiny new doors in June 2023. Our library is a warm, welcoming and vibrant space that is the new hub of our school.

The library is always bustling with students, whether it's during a weekly class visit or at break and lunchtimes, and we have already had some fantastic events take place in our library, including our Scholastic Book Fair and our Harry Potter Day celebration!

We are now entering our third year of establishing our new library space, and we have been invited to take part in a competition to win extra funding to put towards even more amazing new resources for our students and our library.
National Book Tokens are giving schools across the UK the chance to win £1,000 in National Book Tokens and a year’s free membership to the School Library Association, PLUS one overall winner will also receive £500!
We are asking for your much-needed support to help us continue our development of a fun and welcoming library space for all by nominating Meadow High School for the National Book Tokens prize. All you need to do is visit https://www.nationalbooktokens.com/schools-prize and enter your email address, contact details and "Meadow High School" as your chosen school.
The closing date for nominations is Wednesday 31st July 2024.

Kind regards,
Sarah Gaafar
