Issue 5 - Friday 7 October 2022

Dear Families,

It was lovely to see so many of you face to face at last night's Meet the Tutor Evening and I hope that still being able to join virtually was helpful to families. Thank you to those who were able to complete the Ofsted Parent View questionnaire whilst at school, your feedback is extremely helpful. If you weren't able to complete the questionnaire last night, but would like to, you can go anytime to www.parentview.ofsted.gov.uk to complete the survey.

Thank you to the representatives of SENDIASS (Special Educational Needs and Disability Information, Advice and Support Service) and the Dyspraxia Foundation who came along to the evening to chat to families.  If you didn't get an opportunity to meet Georgie or Wendy please contact the school, and we can put you in contact with them.

I know that for many of you this was your first opportunity to step inside the new school buildings. If you would like to have a better look around please phone school to book onto one of our tours which are run by our amazing Student Ambassadors.  If you are in contact with any of our ex-pupils or families, please let them know about this as we'd love to see them again and show them around. (the next few tour dates are on the calendar list below).

Details of the tour dates are on the website and a banner will be going up on the front fence as well.  We have just set up our 'Boomerang' club for ex-pupils, and we are looking to make contact with as many as we can.

Our school nurse ran a fantastic whole school assembly this week about being healthy. This included thinking about a balanced diet and exercise. If you have any concerns about your child's weight, diet or health please contact our Welfare Lead, Kathleen, who can either support you or refer you to the school nurse.

Today in school we have been so privileged to have visitors running an African drumming and dance workshop. Great fun was had by all, and I'm sure photos will be published on the website!

Very best wishes for the weekend.

Kind regards,

Mrs J Rigby
Headteacher

Friends of Meadow Planning Meeting

All Carers and Parents of Meadow students, as well as staff, are welcome to attend, the more the merrier!  If you're planning to come, it would be useful if you could drop an email letting us know to meadow@meadowhighschool.org, so we know roughly how many people are coming.

If you can't make it in person, you can join us online using this link:

PATHWAY 1
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition

Pathway 1 Year 11s completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition last Thursday and Friday. They had a great two days out walking, with lovely weather.  The pupils' teamwork was outstanding as they supported each other to complete the walks.

Dear Parents/Carers

Going to school
Why it’s so important!

Lots of people think that missing the odd day at school here and there can’t do much harm, but even taking a short amount of time can be a problem. Your child might fall behind in their work and not be able to catch up. There could be other problems too; children who miss school are missing out on the social side of things which affects their ability to make and keep friends, and it can dent their confidence to attempt new work and work alongside others.

Authorised Absences

These are mornings or afternoons away from school for a valid reason such as illness, emergency medical or dental appointments (routine appointments should always be made out of school hours) and emergencies.

Unauthorised Absences

An absence is classified as Unauthorised if the reason was not recognised as acceptable. The Department for Education (DfE) and Local Education Authorities provide information for schools as to what is acceptable and what is not.

Examples of reasons that would not be accepted:

  • A birthday
  • A shopping trip
  • Day trips

We still have a long way to go to improve attendance, but we have really noticed a positive change!

If you are struggling to get your child to school, please contact the Welfare Team, and we can support you.

Medication In School

Special medical requirements may be met after agreeing a protocol between parents/carers.

Students may bring prescribed medication into school whether it be for a long or short term usage.  However, we do require parents to complete a form should this be necessary.

Antibiotics will only be given if required dosage is four times a day.

Asthmatic children must keep a preventative (blue) inhaler in school at all times.

No medicines of any type can be given without parental consent
