Message from the Governors

Dear Families

I think you all know that, after a distinguished career at Meadow, Mrs Rigby has decided to retire at the end of the summer term. Mrs Rigby will be missed by everyone, but she has a new adventure planned that includes travelling to destinations around the world.

I am pleased to tell you we have appointed a new Headteacher.  Mr Graham Cunningham will join the school in September '25. Governors began the search for a new Headteacher just before Christmas '24. We had a number of candidates apply and shortlisted four to take part in interview and assessment days at the beginning of March.

Mr Cunningham has been headteacher at Longdean school in Hertfordshire for 12 years and governors believe he has the skills and experience our school needs for the next stage in its development.

Kind regards

Richard Burton
Chair of Governors

Dear Families,

May I wish all of you who observed Ramadan a very blessed Eid Mubarak.

I hope you were able to be with your loved ones.

Devon Trip 2025!

Last week 33 pupils and staff attended the annual residential trip to The Calvert Trust in Exmoor. The trip is the first time many of the pupils have stayed away from home for a prolonged period of time. The chance to make new friends, communicate and socialise with each other and, importantly, for some, a good week of electronic devices and enjoy the great outdoors!

During the week, pupils participated in many different activities, which included canoeing, abseiling, horse riding, archery, crate stacking and biking! These activities provided pupils with the chance to face and conquer different fears and all pupils made their own personal and memorable achievements on the trip.

The staff at the centre and other families who were attending their own trip on the site commented on how amazing the pupils were quoting 'Your pupils have been amazing, they have been so polite and considerate to me and my family, it has been a joy to see them enjoying themselves!' Which is amazing praise and all pupils should be extremely proud of themselves.

Information and letters will soon be coming out for the Devon 2026 trip!

G Millard (Trip Leader)

Oracy Workshop Talk About the Future

Talk The Talk work with the Jack Petchey Foundation.  Their mission is to help students develop confident and fluent skills expressing their ideas and talking to others in a range of different situations.

In this session, our trainer, Ashley, worked with our Year 13 and 14 students. They were encouraged to reflect on skills they have gained,

  • What skills do I have?
  • When did I learn these skills?
  • Where do I use these skills day to day?
  • Where could I make sure of these skills in the future [linked to their ambitions for the future]
  • Why are these skills important?

Before finally

  • practising communicating this effectively in an interview-style situation.

Our students were absolutely amazing and we were so proud of the way they moved outside their comfort zone to try this new experience. Watching their self-belief and confidence grow was amazing.  Ashley thoroughly enjoyed his visit and is hoping to return soon.

Easter Boomerang Club Meet Up

This week some of our ex-students visited us and enjoyed some Easter treats for our Easter Boomerang meet-up.

It was great to see everyone and hear how they are all getting on. Some ex-students shared how they are enjoying their college courses and gaining distinctions for their work.

Some students enjoy meeting up with friends, going to the theatre , the zoo and accessing the community independently.

It was to catch up with you all, until next time, Take Care.

Ms Carter
