Weekly Bulletin - Issue 8 - Friday 22 October 2021

Issue 8 - Friday 22 October 2021

Dear Families

This week Mrs Rigby has been unwell and so, unfortunately, has not been able to write her usual piece for the newsletter.  So instead it is falling for me to give you a quick update.

This week, as part of our Black History Month, we have had some special events including pupils in KS3 being invited to watch a film over lunchtime and discuss some things in this with Mr Brady.  There was also a lunchtime drumming workshop, which pupils could join in.

Halloween is also nearly here and Mrs Barham’s Intervention groups have decorated the hut with Halloween decorations and invited classes to join them in this spooky den for face painting and treats.  Pathway 1 pupils also had a Halloween sale too as part of their enterprise curriculum.  My dogs enjoyed their bone biscuits using the Dogs Trust recipe.

Yesterday, the packing boxes arrived in school ready for our move into the new build in a few weeks’ time…VERY EXCITING!

Finally, we have had no new confirmed cases of Covid in the school community this week and so hopefully everyone will have a great happy, healthy and relaxing half-term.

See you after the break.

Medical

Please can all parents with children that have emergency medication in school check the dates on epi-pens / Inhalers / and epilepsy medication.  If the medication needs replacing, please can it be ordered and sent into school after half-term.

If you have any up-to-date care plans that need to be shared with School, please can these also be sent in as well as a list of medication changes if applicable.  Thank you.

Kind Regards

Happy Halloween from class LD

Black History Month events have continued this week at Meadow.

At lunchtimes, pupils had the opportunity to participate in a drumming workshop, watch and discuss a film and design posters to celebrate and promote Black History.

Many thanks to all staff that have supported and led events this month and all pupils who have positively engaged in the activities.

RE: Offer of further opportunities to take up the COVID-19 Vaccination for 12-15 year olds

Dear Parents and Carers,

Covid vaccinations are now taking place for 12-15 year olds across North West London including at your child’s school. All 12-15 year olds are being offered one dose of COVID vaccine.

We are aware that there are some children who were unable to be vaccinated on the day we were at their school for various reasons including:

• A large number of eligible children meaning it may not have been possible to vaccinate all 12-15 year olds on the day of clinic - If this included your child then we’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused;

• They may have been unable to attend school on the day due to illness;

• Your child may have tested positive for COVID and was not eligible on the day as there needs to be 28-days between getting a positive COVID test and being able to take up the COVID-19 vaccination;

• or they were not aged 12 on the day the clinic took place but have subsequently turned 12 and are now eligible.

Similarly, you may home educate your child and would now like the opportunity to take up the vaccine but need to know how and where to go to get your child vaccinated.

In order to ensure that every child gets the opportunity to take up the vaccine, our vaccination team will be operating clinics during the October half-term at the locations listed below:

Location: Oak Wood Secondary School, Sutton Ct Rd, Uxbridge, UB10 9HT
Date: Monday 25th October Time: 9am to 5pm

Or:

Location: Barra Hall Children's Centre, Wood End Green Road, Hayes, UB3 2SA Date: Wednesday 27th October Time: 9am to 2pm

You don’t need to book a slot, you can simply turn up and walk-in on the day. However, please can we ask you to:

• Provide consent: we will need parents or legal guardian to sign the attached consent form and bring it with them, even if you have already previously done so. If you are unable to print the consent form in advance a copy will be available at the clinic.

• Ensure that your child is accompanied on the day of clinic: please make sure that your child is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, ideally by whomever has signed the consent form.

Depending on demand there may be a short queue, but we will aim to see children as soon as possible.

In addition to the clinics running during half-half term, you may be invited by your GP to vaccination clinics they are running. It is your choice where to go, but please remember that 12-15 year olds will only receive one dose of the vaccine.

Once again thank you for your understanding while we work to make sure every eligible child in NW London who wishes to receive their COVID-19 vaccine does so as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely
NWL vaccination team

Message From The Neighbourhood Watch:

How to check a Police Officer's Identity

Unfortunately, there have been occasions when fraudsters have posed as police officers, both in person and on the phone, to trick people into giving them personal information and defraud them of money.

If you're unsure about whether the person you're dealing with is a genuine police officer stop and call us on 101 to check their identity.

Please note, if you've been on the phone to someone – who called you – but you have doubts about them, we recommend that you hang up and wait five minutes before you call us. There have been cases of fraudsters keeping the line open after a victim has hung up. Leaving several minutes between calls will make sure that the call has closed.

How our officers will contact you

Whichever way an officer contacts you they will identify themselves clearly as an officer and explain why they're contacting you.

Contact in person

If one of our officers contacts you in person, they'll show you their police warrant card. This is proof of their identity and authority.

Contact by phone

If one of our officers needs to speak to you on the phone, they'll identify themselves clearly. They will never:

  • ask you for your bank details or PIN
  • ask you to transfer funds to another account
  • ask you to hand over cash or bank cards to a courier
  • ask you to pay a fine or a fee to them or a third party over the phone or online
  • ask you for access to your computer, passwords or log on details over the phone or online
  • ask you to register personal details in an attachment or website online
  • ask you to 'assist' in an investigation by doing any of the above
  • state that you are committing a crime by not complying
  • communicate in an abusive, threatening or coercive manner

Contact by email

If one of our officers contacts you by email, they will never:

  • ask for remote access to your computer
  • send you unsolicited emails with attached files, especially zip or macro-enabled Microsoft Office files
  • ask you for any login credentials or passwords

Police Contact Advice

  • Telephone 999 in an emergency where there is a danger to life or a crime is in progress.
  • Telephone 101 for non-emergencies where police attendance is required, to report a crime or to report any other incidents.
  • If you are calling about the above message, please tell us that you are responding to a message from OWL.

Community Mental Health Survey
Your Views Are Requested

The Engagement & Equalities Manager (for Hillingdon Brent & Harrow) has asked us to send out this survey to you, containing 3 questions only.

They are seeking your support in helping to develop and improve community mental health services in Hillingdon:

"In the NHS Long Term Plan (2019) there is an aim to deliver complete patient centred care across all the services provided by hospitals, community and GPs. The services will treat patients in a joined-up approach to provide better care and outcomes.

In Hillingdon we are committed to improving mental health services for patients to ensure consistent, seamless care across services. Our aim is to enable staff to deliver care as efficiently as possible. We will be aligning and integrating current services and as part of this will ask for funding for additional Mental Health Practitioners.

This project would like to have support in the planning of this from all the stakeholders which includes patients, carers, partner agencies and mental health healthcare staff. Please complete the three survey questions with your views so these can help to shape mental health services in Hillingdon."

Service users and carers can access the survey here: https://qfreeaccountssjc1.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9GpGphzSw7ywRkq
