Weekly Bulletin - Issue 5 - Friday 1 October 2021

Issue 5 - Friday 1 October 2021

Dear Families

Autumn has definitely arrived!! Please ensure your child has suitable footwear and outdoor clothing as it is quite wet on site at the moment.

Covid

We have had no confirmed cases of Covid since the last bulletin.

If your child is unwell, please keep them at home and arrange for a PCR test.

Vaccinations

You should be so proud of your children. They were absolutely amazing yesterday during the vaccination programme and the team commented on how calm, polite and mature they were.   We don't yet know if 12-15 year olds will be offered a second dose, but will let you know as soon as we have any information.

Assembly

This week's assembly was themed 'Sticks and Stones' and focused on just how much words can hurt us.  We looked at the sorts of things people can say and call it 'banter', but in reality, how hurtful and damaging it can be. As well as identifying some of the hurtful and  inappropriate things people can say, we had a focus on kind words and using good and appropriate language. Generally we find that focusing on the desired behaviour can have a much more beneficial effect than always focusing on the undesirable.

Parents' Meeting With The Head

Thank you to all the families that attended this week's meetings. I hope you found the presentation useful and informative.

For those of you who weren't able to attend the main information was:

  1. Who are the members of the school's Safeguarding Team?

  2. How are we maintaining our Covid secure school?

  3. What are British Values, and how do we teach and promote them?

  4. Pathways to Success and Life After Meadow. Information available on the website at https://www.meadowhighschool.org/page/?title=Pathways+to+Success+and+Life+After+Meadow&pid=824

  5. Personalised Learning Intention maps, PLIMS. What are they, and how are the pupils' targets created?

  6. What is the learning and assessment cycle at Meadow, and how do PLIMS and subject frameworks fit in?

  7. Evidence for Learning (EfL) - How visuals support the reporting of pupils' progress.   Volunteers for a Pilot group.  Information available on the website at https://www.evidenceforlearning.net/

  8. Build update.

If you would like more information about other aspects of the school, or you would like information or training in any other area, please let our Home Liaison Officer know, and we will do our best to facilitate this.

Very best wishes for this wet and windy weekend!

Headteacher

Mapac, our online Uniform Supplier, is now offering free term time delivery from 24 September 2021

Dear Customer,

Thank you for bearing with us through what, in some ways, has been a difficult summer.

A little later than planned, but we're now ready to resume our “free term time delivery” service from tomorrow. Parents choosing this service will be given a delivery date of 'on/around 22nd October' but if orders are ready before we will send them earlier.

Please be mindful that we are still experiencing gaps in stock which may affect some orders, but we will inform the customer of any notable stock issues in these instances by email and, if necessary, split orders to get what we do have to them.

Best Wishes

MHS Charity Shop

Dear Parents/Carers,

Meadow High students and staff run a charity shop (exclusively for school students) every Wednesday and Thursday mornings at break time as part of their Vocational pathway (work experience). This offers our students an excellent opportunity to build their confidence, self-esteem and variety of employability skills, such as team work, organising, planning, money management, customer service and so on. The items sold are age appropriate toys and puzzles, home decorations, photo frames, etc. and range from 10p to £2.00. Students are most welcome to bring some money on these days and enjoy the valuable experience of going shopping in-house.

We would also appreciate if parents/carers or family friends wish to make donations (small items only) of any unwanted gifts/items to the charity shop. We DO NOT accept clothes, shoes or teddies due to hygiene reasons. If you would like to make any donations, please email Miss Wilson on swilson@meadowhighschool.org to let her know what items you would like to donate and find out if those items are suitable for selling in our charity shop.

Please DO NOT send or drop any donations to school until it has been agreed by Miss Wilson.
