Dear Parents and Carers

It was great to welcome the students back into school this week and to hear about how they had spent their summer holidays.  They all looked refreshed, smart and ready to go for the year ahead.

Over the summer, a lot of work has been done to improve our Royal Lane site and the photos below show some of the changes we have made in the interests of our students.  C Block has had a total repaint, and we have revamped the Construction Room, Vocational Classroom and installed new play equipment at the front of the school as well as remodelling some toilets in C Block too.  The school field is also fully open.

In my assemblies with the students, I have been reminding them of the importance of our school values (Motivation, Expectations, Achievement, Determination, Opportunity & Willingness) in order to enable students to have a world-class education at Meadow and to have purpose and choice when they leave us.  I have related this message to two important changes this year and I wanted to remind you of them too.  

Firstly, we have a new code of conduct in school.  It has three key messages in it.  Students must ensure they adhere to this code at all times, and we will use future assemblies to unpack these points with them.

Secondly, we are now a mobile phone free school.  I wrote to parents about this before the summer.  Students must put their phones away as soon as they enter the site and then hand them to staff to place in the safe from 8.45 for the remainder of the day.  They will then be collected at 2.55 to go home.  This week we will be continually reminding students of this expectation, but if students have phones on site from Monday 14th September they will be confiscated and parents will be contacted to discuss our concerns.

Thirdly, a reminder about uniform.  Year 7 have a different uniform to all other year groups as we have changed it for them and for the school moving forward.  Students in other years should continue in their old uniform but must wear black footwear (trainers or shoes) and no hoodies are permitted on site.

Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition

Some Northwood Road sixth formers took part in their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition. The weather was tricky at times but it didn't stop everyone trying hard, completing new challenges and enjoying time with friends.

Jack said 'I loved the campfire'. 

Daniel says 'I hate walks and I love ziplining' 

Ahmed says 'We saw some horses on our walk, I like walking'
