Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to the new half-term. It is good to be back, and I hope you all spent some enjoyable time with your friends and family last week and are ready to go again for the next seven weeks up to Christmas.
Last half-term I had the pleasure of meeting many of you at the three coffee mornings I ran, and I know that some of you also completed the stakeholder survey we sent home. As I stated at the coffee meetings, I want to use the bulletin to feedback to you on the main points that you raised.
The feedback from the coffee mornings and surveys was very positive, highlighting the support the school gives to students, the work done in developing student independence, the caring relationships and the general routine communication that goes home. In the eyes of those who completed the survey and that I spoke to, this all contributes to a very inclusive school.
However, there are some things that we can work on, most notably:
- More routine communication about progress in lessons,
- More positive communication home about students,
- Additional clubs at lunchtime,
- Independent learning being introduced to support learning away from school,
- Having an overview of a child’s journey through Meadow for the different pathways from Year 7 - 14,
- Direct parent meetings around important transitions eg options from KS3 - 4 and into Post 16,
We have already begun work on some of these things and will continue to do so as we move towards two sites from September next year.
- I am writing letters to students in classes and the students are being asked to bring these home to share with you. We will also be introducing direct positive messages home to parents from this half-term.
- We will adjust the response time for emails sent into school from 72 to 24 hours. This will begin this half-term.
- We are looking at independent learning as the next stage in the development of our curriculum. This will be from January 2026 for both pathways, but we will be discussing what this looks like in the run-up to Christmas break.
- We have already begun looking at the calendar for next year to build in events such as options for Year 9 students and also for Year 11 into Year 12. Sadly, as the calendar is set we will not be able to build this in for this year.
A lot of this work will tie in with our response to the parent partnership award that we were accredited with last year and will form part of our school improvement plan. I will hold a further coffee morning in the summer term so you can see how we have progressed in these areas.
I thank you all again for taking the time to contribute via the survey or in person. I wish you all an enjoyable half-term ahead.
Mr G Cunningham
Headteacher
