Dear Families

First, we would like to offer our support to all the members of our community whose friends and families have been affected by the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Our prayers go to those in mourning, the injured and the rescue teams.

Dear Lord,

Please be in the hearts and lives of all those who are suffering.

Bring healing to those who are enduring pain.

Bring hope to those that have lost everything.

Bring provision to those who are hungry.

Bring shelter to those without a home.

Please use and prompt us to be your hands of love across a hurting world.

Amen.

Library

It has been lovely to see pupils visiting the reopened library this week and enjoying our wide range of new books. During the clear out and restock of the library, staff have carefully selected books from the wide range that are now available that represent our diverse community.

Work is now ongoing both in our library and across every subject in the school to decolonise the curriculum. This is a process of identifying, acknowledging and challenging the ways colonialism has impacted upon perceived knowledge and learning. Curriculum leads are working with an external consultant to complete this important work, and we look forward to the changes this will bring over the coming months and years.

Closure of HACS Rural Tea Rooms

The Rural Tea Rooms, run by the autism charity HACS near school and visited by our pupils, are due to close on Saturday 25th March.

The tea rooms have, up to now, received a grant from Hillingdon Council which last year was for £40,000. The council doesn't think this represents good value for Hillingdon residents.  The grant helps HACS provide work experience for around 20 autistic people a year who would otherwise struggle to find such an opportunity.

The grant has been withdrawn, the tea rooms will close and Hillingdon Council recommends those people with additional needs losing employment support should "approach other providers or schemes to see what else might suit them best."  Full details can be found in the minutes of the Cabinet meeting of Hillingdon Council from December 15 2022 on the Council's website.

For anyone who thinks Hillingdon Council's grant represents good value in providing employment opportunities for autistic people looking to join the workforce, and should be reinstated, www.change.org has a petition which can be found by searching for "HACS" on their site where you can express your opinion.
