Issue 7 - Friday 21 October 2022

Next week is Half Term !

Back to school Monday 31 October 2022 at 9am

Dear Families,

Harvest

Thank you so much for the wonderful donations you gave for our Harvest Festival and donations to Hillingdon's Food Bank.

Assembly

We learned about how food is harvested and stored in assembly this week and also, how different cultures and countries share food. As you know, we are coming together as a school to share food and celebrate Diwali today.

Happy Diwali to all our pupils, families and staff who will be celebrating with their friends and family next Monday.

Governors in School Day - GiSD

Twice a year, we have a focused day when Governors come into school to monitor what's happening, chat with pupils and staff and see the school in action. At this weeks GiSD they:

  • observed pupil arrival
  • had breakfast with staff
  • discussed 'Life Beyond Meadow', work experience and Supported Internships with the team
  • Completed a Health and Safety site walk
  • learned more about how schools are financed and how budgets are created and monitored
  • watched a drama rehearsal
  • monitored pupil progress and the curriculum
  • fed back a visit to Ambitious About Autism
  • eat lunch with pupils
  • attended our Skittles club
  • visited the Therapy team
  • met with Faculty Leaders to learn more about the Curriculum Intent, Implementation and Impact
  • observed a 6th Form Committee meeting
  • attended assembly
  • observed pupil departure

Obviously, not all Governors did everything! LINK Governors also attend school throughout the year to monitor developments and progress in their linked areas.

Thank you to all the pupils and staff who spoke with and assisted on GiSD and a huge thank you to governors for their support.

Filming

Thank you to the parents who have offered to be interviewed on Friday 11th November. I am finalising arrangements with the Production Team which is brilliantly led by our ex-Head pupil Harry Norris.  I will be in contact with you the week after half-term.

Clocks

Just a reminder that clocks go back an hour very early morning Sunday 30th October. We look forward to seeing pupils back at school on Monday 31st by 9am in the correct uniform and ready to learn!

Have a great half-term.

Kind regards,

Mrs J Rigby
Headteacher

Home Reading Support Meeting: online and in person sessions

Focus: Strategies and ideas for encouraging and working on core skills

  • Need some new ideas to get home reading going again?

  • Want to learn more about the core skills for reading and how you can help?

  • Would love to talk to other parents to share ideas and experiences?

  • If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, then read on!

Further to feedback from our letter last year, we would like to offer the opportunity to attend either an online or in school session to talk about Reading.  We know how important reading skills are for life and learning and therefore school and home working as a team to build a life-long love of reading is always the goal.

Please complete the slip on the letter sent home (or print off below) to up for one of the sessions. If you could do this by Tuesday 1st November that would help a great deal with planning so that we can target our session appropriately.

Online Session –  Wednesday 2nd November 2022     5:00pm – 6:00pm

In School Session - Friday 4th November 2022    1:40pm – 2:40pm

We really hope that you will be able to attend. We all know helping our young people to understand the importance of building their reading skills to support future plans is crucial but also how instilling a love of reading will help their emotional well-being through developing a greater understanding of themselves, others and the world beyond school.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs. Sugden,                                                           Mrs Sojka
English & Communication Faculty Leader     EAL & Reading Intervention Manager

Welfare News

The Welfare team would like to thank you all for your efforts with attendance this half term.  We are seeing some great improvements!

We would like to thank all the parents/carers who came to another successful coffee morning.  Parents are forming friendships and supporting each other.  There is lots of information sharing and invaluable experiences are also being shared.

We will be running a coffee morning once a month for now and welcome any suggestions of topics you would like to see covered.  So far we have had a general meet up and a coffee morning with DASH, who have many services to offer!  We are running a DASH clinic in the near future and if you would like an appointment, let us know via email- welfare@meadowhighschool.org.  Please see the bulletin, and see if their service is something that may be able to help you.

As always, if there is anything the welfare team can do to support you getting your child into school or if there are any medical problems you need support with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Alison Wallington -- Welfare Officer

10BA and 12JS FISHING TRIP

10BA and 12JS were lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to attend a fishing experience organised by Middlesex Trout and Salmon Fishing Charity, on Wednesday 19th October.

Students sensibly listened in the Health and Safety introduction before Fly fishing with one of the many experienced Angler's. It was a slow start to the day with very little movement from the lake however, around 30 minutes in S.S and A.K caught the first rainbow trout of the day!  Over the next hour or so the groups managed to catch another 4 fish.

Throughout the day the pupils seemed to interact positively with their Angler's while learning the correct techniques of fly fishing and important life skills; patience being one of them - especially because there was relatively little activity from the lake.

At 13:00, students, staff and Angler's stopped for lunch (students had the opportunity to eat food that was provided by Halliford MereTrout Fishery or their own lunch) before a small award ceremony. Due to the students hard work, patience and great listening skills each student received a medal and a framed certificate  - if parents/ carers of the students who attended would like to see a picture of their child, please let the form tutor know.

Kind regards

Mr Anstee & Ms St.John
