Issue 2 - Friday 16 September 2022

URGENT NOTICE

SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY 19 SEPTEMBER 2022

A NATIONAL BANK HOLIDAY HAS BEEN  DESIGNATED FOR THE FUNERAL OF
HER ROYAL HIGHNESS QUEEN ELIZABETH II.

(Please see the letter below from Mrs Rigby with further details)

Dear Families

I am writing to inform you that Meadow High School will be closed on Monday 19th  September 2022, the date of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth State Funeral, as this has been declared a national bank holiday for this year. This means that the school will not be open and no pupils or staff will attend that day.

The purpose of this bank holiday is to allow individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning.

We are supporting pupils by running special assemblies and will prepare them for the change to routine. If you feel that your child needs additional support, please contact their Form Team.

Please note that school will reopen to all students as normal on Tuesday 20th September 2022.

Yours sincerely

Mrs J Rigby
Headteacher

Dear Families

Firstly, I would like to praise all our pupils who have responded very sensibly and maturely whilst we have been in this national period of mourning. Class teams have been supporting pupils to understand what is happening following the death of the Queen and, where this has triggered sad thoughts and memories of personal loss, the pupils have been supported to manage their feelings and emotions.

Our whole school assembly this week looked at the life of Queen Elizabeth, her childhood, hobbies and interests, her family and significant events during her reign. We also learned more about King Charles and the events that will be happening over the next few days and months.

Pupils have now completed their first week on timetable and I have been particularly impressed at how well all our new pupils have settled into school. Last week, pupils were tutor based to support this settling in period, and we have found it to be extremely effective.  Additionally, pupils build better relationships with new classmates and reconnect with those they haven't seen for 5 weeks, they learn their new timetable and class locations and issues are sorted out in a stress-free way prior to the curriculum starting. The week also ensures that Form Teams get to know their group really well and helps them write pupils Personalised Learning Intention Maps - PLIMS.

I hope you found your child settled well. If you do have any feedback or concerns, please contact your child's Form Tutor.

May I wish you all a very good weekend and we will see all pupils again on Tuesday 20th after the bank holiday.

Mrs J Rigby
Headteacher
