Weekly Bulletin - Issue 31 - Friday 13 May 2022

Issue 31 - Friday 13 May 2022

Dear Families,

Firstly, I would like to congratulate our Girls' Football Team who competed in the London Youth Games this week. Well done ladies for your outstanding teamwork and success!

Online Safety

We have seen a recent increase in online safety issues for some of our pupils. Whilst we continue to teach pupils about how to stay safe online, please can we draw your attention to the information below which may help you in supporting and reinforcing your child's online safety:

People online might not be who they say they are and could be dangerous.
  1. Do not give out personal information, such as your name and address, contact numbers, personal photos, bank details, PIN numbers and passwords to people they only know online (and obviously, much of this information should not be given to anyone).

  2. Do not supply your details for registration without asking for permission and help from a parent / carer or responsible adult family member.

  3. Do not visit chat websites that are not fully supervised.

  4. Do not arrange to meet an online friend in person without a parents knowledge and permission (if you agree to let them, you should always go along with them).

  5. Do not give any indication of your age or gender in a personal email address or screen name.

  6. Do not keep anything that worries or upsets you online secret, always share this with a parent / carer or responsible adult.

  7. Do not respond to unwanted emails or other messages
Do:
  1. Make use of parental controls on any internet-enabled device by checking with the service provider's website.

  2. Agree boundaries with your child about what they can and cannot do online (we know this can be hard to do if this wasn't done in advance, we can support you with this).

  3. Activate safe search settings on search engines.

  4. Monitor your child's internet use by checking the history folder on the browser as it contains a list of previously visited sites.

  5. Install and regularly update filtering software to protect against inappropriate internet access.
If you would like to learn more about online safety or have support with any issues you are experiencing, please attend our next workshop for families in June.  Date to be advised.

Northwood Road

Thank you to all the families of Pathway 1 families who attended one of this week's Northwood Road update presentations.  If you weren't able to attend I will be making a recording that will be shared with all families.

Kind regards,

Introduction From New Welfare Lead - Kathleen Bentley

Dear Parents/Carers

I am writing to introduce myself to you as the new Welfare Lead for Meadow High School.

I have vast medical and attendance experience and my priority is ensuring your children receive the best education available to them.

I will be here to support you with any attendance or medical issues that may arise.

ATTENDANCE

Parents/Carers have a legal duty to ensure their children go to school regularly and on time. Failure to do this may  result in prosecution in the magistrates’ court and can lead to fines of up to £2,500 or three months’ imprisonment, a parenting order from the courts, a penalty notice or a community order. In some cases, youth courts can pass educational supervision orders onto pupils.

As you will no doubt be aware there is a very clear link between how well children do at school and how often they attend.  At Meadow High School we are committed to ensuring that every child achieves their full potential. The minimum attendance Meadow High school expect is 97%.

ALL absences from school MUST be reported to attendance@meadowhighschool.org or

A phone call to the school - option 1 and a message left as to why your child is absent

Contact MUST be made with the school EVERYDAY your child is absent from school

We will be initiating three stages of attendance monitoring:

Stage 1 – A letter of concern will be sent to parent’s whose childs attendance is under 97%.

If no significant improvement, it moves to -

Stage 2 – Attendance of under 95%.  Internal monitoring will commence.  Parents will be invited in for a meeting to discuss the matter further.

If no significant improvement, monitoring then moves to -

Stage 3 – Attendance under 90%.  Referral to the Local Authority Participation Team will be made.  This leads to a panel meeting with the Local Authority and a possible fine.

Anytime a child has time off school for a medical appointment, evidence in the form of an appointment card or message from the NHS will be required.

Please see below files from the local authority that may answer any questions you may have.

MEDICAL

At Meadow High School, we are committed to ensuring your child is able to learn in a safe environment.

We are committed to supporting you with your childs health and have good relationships with outside agencies, so we can support your child whilst at school.

Shortly we will be sending out a Medical Audit Form.  We would appreciate receiving a response even if your child does not have any medical needs.  Please state all medical needs, medications taken and any medical care plans you think we may not have.

I offer an open door policy and am happy to meet with parents/carers in person should you wish to discuss any welfare matters.

Welfare Lead

 11th May 2022

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Recycling

We are doing this project because it is important that we take responsibility and care for the environment.

There is five bins around the Hillingdon area; Green and Blue, also Red, Black, and Grey.

  1. Green is for plastic bottles
  2. Blue is for paper
  3. Red is for plastic
  4. &5  Grey and Black are for general waste

At school, we are recycling plastic, cans, plastic bottles, papers. We will try to give you resources, we would like to encourage you all to recycle more and keep everything clean.

We would like parents and students to recycle at home.

Tips on ‘how to recycle’ at home:

  1. Go to a council, the Hillingdon one or anywhere near you, request some recycle bins
  2. Any product bottles can go in the bin
  3. Use colour coded sticky notes
  4. Choose an empty space inside or outside your home, ready for recycling

Recycle, reuse and reduce.

Saves energy, Thank you for listening, we appreciate your time!

If you have any questions just let us know.

Kind regards,

Students of 11BA

Year 8 Trip to The Zoo

On Wednesday 11th May Year 8 went to visit Whipsnade Zoo. We travelled there and back by coach and despite the wet weather we had a fantastic time. We saw lots of amazing animals including elephants, tigers, chimpanzees, rhinos, hippos and penguins! We stopped for lunch and had a well-deserved hot chocolate and some groups enjoyed visiting the gift shop. Year 8 were superbly behaved and a pleasure to take out.

“I liked the chimpanzees, they were so funny!”  Charlie M 8LB

“I had so much fun!”  Victor 8CB

“I enjoyed spending time with my friends at the zoo.” Evie 8NC

Pathway 1 Eid Celebration

Pathway 1 recently had their Eid celebration. We started our afternoon with having some Eid treats that the children brought from home. After that, the children went to different classroom to play games. The children enjoyed the Eid party and had so much fun playing the games.

LONDON YOUTH GAMES

Nine Meadow High School students made the long journey to Mile End Stadium in East London for the London Youth Games.

They were representing the Hilligndon Borough and all athletes were fantastic.

Pupils competed in many different events such as; 100m 200m Long Jump, Shot Putt, Turbo Javelin and relay.

Some stand out results were:

Takunda winning Gold in the 100m.

Ola winning a Bronze medal in the Turbo Javelin.

Great job !

Mr C Morgan - Faculty Leader. PE

Girls' Football Trip

Meadow High School attended an 'All Girls Football Tournament' on Wednesday 11th May against other local schools. The reason for this tournament is to encourage girls to participate in sport more.

Meadow lost their first game 4-1 however showed great determination and team work to win their next game 4-1. Everyone did extremely well and have made Meadow High School so proud! So much so we struggled to pick a 'Player of the Tournament'; Do we go with someone who scored 2 brilliant goals? A Hatrick Hero? A Goalkeeper who produced outstanding saves? Or multiple players who showed great teamwork? So we have decided that Meadow High School's Player of the Tournament goes to.....the Whole Team!!

Well done to all the pupils who participated. Every student showed great team spirit, resilience and, most of all, had fun.

HOME TO SCHOOL/COLLEGE TRANSPORT

(Information provided by Hillingdon Parent / Carer Forum)

Dear parents/carers,

For those children or young people starting their new school/college in September 2022 and require home to school/college transport, please be advised, that the cut-off date is 30th June 2022 for guaranteed travel provisions being in place for September. Therefore any applications received after this date are not guaranteed to be approved for the start of the new school/college term in September.

The Travel Assistance team will work tirelessly to try to ensure that as many eligible children as possible are provided with travel assistance from the beginning of the Autumn term, but it is not guaranteed.

There is currently no need to reapply for travel assistance if your child already uses the service and will be continuing at their current place of education in Sept 2022 from the same address. Please note that if and when your child changes school/college and/or home address, a reapplication for travel assistance will be required so that your child's eligibility can be re-assessed.
