Weekly Bulletin - Issue 4 - Friday 24 September 2021

Issue 4 - Friday 24 September 2021

Dear Families

Vaccinations

Tutor group teams may be calling you to check you received the consent form regarding 12 to 15 year old first dose vaccinations and older pupils second dose. They will be able to direct you to information should you need it.

Covid

There have been two positive cases of Covid in our community this week with no pupils or staff required to isolate.

If your child is unwell please do not send them to school and arrange for them to have a PCR test. Many of the confirmed cases in our community have come from pupils who have no symptoms or ones not typically associated with Covid.

Early Bird Club

We have currently had an extremely small number of expressions of interest for an Early Bird Club from 8am every school day. If you missed the form but would be interested in this provision for your child, please call the school office and request a form.

Assembly

This week we tackled the challenging topic of pupils' behaviour towards one another. You may be aware of the recent investigation that Ofsted undertook in Peer on Peer abuse  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/review-of-sexual-abuse-in-schools-and-colleges/review-of-sexual-abuse-in-schools-and-colleges . This identified the very real problem of young people acting inappropriately and sometimes, sadly, criminally.

We work hard at Meadow to educate our young people so that they do not make poor choices when they interact with others, both face to face and online.

Should you have any concerns or need any support please contact your child's Form Tutor who may be able to help you or signpost you to services or other staff who can.

Change In The Weather

As the colder, wetter weather approaches, we would like to remind families to ensure that pupils have suitable outdoor clothing and that everything is clearly labelled with the child's name.  Every winter we find a lot of lost items that we cannot return as they are not labelled. Also, sometimes pupils accidently take home another pupils coat etc. The best way to solve this is to label.

Very best wishes to you all. Have a great weekend.

Headteacher

Our Online Parent Community - Classlist

Right now it can be difficult to get to know other Meadow parents and carers.  However, we may have a way to help!

Friends of Meadow, our PTA, runs an online community allowing Meadow parents and carers to chat, share ideas, ask questions and just generally keep in touch.  It's private, secure and restricted to Meadow only, there's no "public" access.  It's not a way to contact the school and teachers, just a friendly and informal group for parents and carers.

We've had parents and carers of our former pupils move on as their children have started college or work, so for the year 7 and 8 parents who haven't heard of Classlist before we'd love you to sign up, and say "hello" if you're feeling brave.

Of course, if you're the parent or carer of an older child you're still very welcome, if having a look at Classlist is something you never quite got round to before!

Work Experience and Employability Sessions
11th May to 17th June 2021

(Meadow High School & Young People's Academy).

Twelve students from Meadow High School and four students from Young People's Academy successfully completed a 5-week bespoke employability programme obtaining a certificate of completion.

A key aim of the sessions was to increase students’ knowledge of a vocational career within the construction industry, raise aspirations of the students by hearing from the employer in person and learn about the employability skills required for the world of work.

Both the pupils and the employer really enjoyed the sessions and we are hoping for more such initiatives in the future!

Student Feedback:

“Now I know roughly what I want to do.”

“I liked learning about life after school.”

Employer feedback:

"I have very much enjoyed working with these students. As a business we want to positively promote our  industry, but we also want whatever we do to be impactful and supporting these students to these  activities we hope has helped them to start to realise their potential."
