Dear Parents and Carers
I can’t believe that we are already over halfway through the half-term. It is flying by. This was, once again, a full-on week at Meadow with lots of great learning and experiences for the students.
On Monday and Tuesday we had our second Peer Review of the year. Over two days, we invited colleagues in from the Local Authority to sense check the quality of basics in the school around teaching, reward, behaviour and assessment and feedback. This was done through learning walks and student voice across the whole school. The review team also worked hard on helping us prepare for our move towards a second site from September 2026. They had many meetings with my Senior Team on things like our curriculum offer, supporting attendance and student welfare over two sites and looking at reward and how we group students. I will give you the main feedback points in next week’s bulletin.
Also this week, we invited Galia Segal into Meadow High School to talk about the Holocaust by using the story of her Grandfather. Holocaust Memorial Day was on Tuesday 27th January and this event marks the liberation of Auschwitz, the infamous Nazi concentration camp where Jewish people and other groups were persecuted by the Nazis. The theme of Holocaust Memorial Day this year is ‘Bridging the Generations’ by bringing the experiences of survivors into the classroom. Galia’s talk about her Grandfather’s experiences helped our students understand prejudice and to challenge discrimination, and we thank her for giving her time to the school.

Last week we also welcomed another visitor to our school. Claire Robins OBE, is the Chief Executive Officer of Scholars Education Trust, and she is a renowned National Leader of Education. She spent an afternoon with us as she had heard of all the amazing things we do to support young people in and out of the classroom, and she wanted to see this for herself. She went away with lots of ideas to use in her own organisation.
Having such high profile people in our school shows the high regard we are held in, both locally and, increasingly, across wider regions in London and the South East. This could not have happened without the hard work of all the staff, Governors and your support as a parent body. For that I thank you.
Kind regards
Mr G Cunningham
Headteacher

ROAD SAFETY
Please take care !
You may be aware that there was a road traffic accident last week outside another school local to Meadow. In this incident, a young person was hit by a car whilst crossing the road. In light of this, please can I remind all parents that they should use either of the two marked crossings when dropping off and collecting students from school, and also they should not walk down to school through the turning circle but use the footpath to the side of it. Royal Lane is a very busy road with fast moving traffic, and it is important we cross it safely.
Thank you in advance.
Mr Cunningham

Well done to class SM, 10DM and all of our pupils who are doing their best to be in school every day!

If your child is suffering from sickness or other NHS-advised illnesses, we support their need to stay at home and recover. Please refer to https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/ if in doubt, and rest assured that our Welfare Team will assess your child and contact you if we consider them too unwell to be in school.
Being around teachers and friends in a school environment is the best way for pupils to learn and reach their potential. Time in school also keeps children safe and provides access to extra-curricular opportunities and pastoral care. Every moment in school counts. For example, a child who is absent for three days over half a term could miss 18 hours of learning. The higher a pupil’s attendance, the more they are likely to learn and build their social skills, ready for a more successful future.
It’s important that we work together as a community to support the attendance of all our pupils, and we continue to welcome your communication if there is anything you would like to discuss regarding this. In the first instance, please speak to your child’s Form Tutor or contact Miss Kelliher: attendance@meadowhighschool.org

Maths Week & Meadow Maths Fair
We’re excited to be celebrating Maths Week from Monday 2nd February to Thursday 5th February. During this time, each Maths class will plan, design, and create a maths-themed stall based on the topic they are currently studying in the curriculum matrix. Using in-house resources, students will develop fun, interactive activities for learners across the school, promoting teamwork, creativity, and enjoyment of maths.
The week will culminate on Friday 6th February, when the school will be off timetable from Period 2 onwards to take part in our whole-school Meadow Maths Fair. This special event will allow students to explore each other’s stalls and celebrate maths in an engaging and collaborative way.
Kind regards
Miss Le Page

Ramadan Arrangements
Dear Parents and Carers,
As Ramadan approaches, we would like to share the arrangements we will have in place to support students who are observing the month of fasting.
We are keen to ensure that all students feel respected, supported, and able to engage positively with school life during this important period.
Prayer and Reflection
- We will provide staffed rooms for students who wish to pray during the school day. These spaces will be separated by gender, but will be mixed aged.
- In addition, there will be staffed rooms available for students who are fasting and would like a quiet place to rest or relax. These spaces will be mixed gender and age.
- We will have prayer mats for students to use, these will be shared.
- We will also have copies of the Quran provided including simple print for young learners.
Lessons and Wellbeing
Students will be encouraged to attend all lessons as normal. However, we recognise that fasting can be challenging, particularly during physical or practical lessons. Students will be supported to take short breaks where required, and staff will be mindful of their wellbeing throughout the day.
Thank you for your continued support, and we wish all families observing Ramadan a peaceful and meaningful month. We are planning to celebrate Eid with parents and carers this year across both pathways, so please keep an eye out for information in due course.
Kind regards,
Michelle Taylor / Anju Mistry
Senior Leaders

Meadow High School Hello Youtube Channel
– Lots of Stories to enjoy!
|
|
Extended Learning: Engaging with a range of stories provides lots of learning opportunities. Please remember that we have our own youtube channel where you’ll find a wide of stories to enjoy. Listening to stories can help boost reading and language skills;
- spark your imagination and stimulate curiosity
- help your brain, social skills and communication skills develop
- help learn new words as you read. Subconsciously, you will absorb information on how to structure sentences and how to use words and other language features effectively
- help with develop understanding of how to read, modelling pacing, proper intonation (using voice for expression) and correct pronunciation whilst immersing children in stories
- help develop comprehension skills – a crucial part of reading
- help inspire a love of books and reading – a life-long learning tool
We will be posting two new stories again this month. Windrush Child on Sunday, 1st February with the second story, Stick Man on Friday 6th February.
|
|
Windrush Child
by Benjamin Zephaniah
read by Mrs. Kalia.
Leonard is shocked when he arrives with his mother in the port of Southampton. His father is a stranger to him, it’s cold and even the Jamaican food doesn’t taste the same as it did back home. But his parents have brought him here to try to make a better life, so Leonard does his best not to complain. How can a boy so far from home learn to enjoy his new life when so many things count against him? . . .
|
|
Stick Man
by Julia Donaldson
read by Mrs. Daniels
This is one of our favourite stories here in school – we have been told that we needed to add it to our YouTube channel! “Stick Man lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three." But it's dangerous being a Stick Man. A dog wants to play with him, a swan builds her nest with him. He even ends up on a fire! Will he ever get back to the family tree?

KS4 Pathway 1
Science: Staying Healthy
In Science, KS4 pupils in Pathway 1 have been exploring what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. They have taken part in a wide range of engaging activities that support both physical and mental wellbeing.
Pupils were especially proud to make their own healthy sandwiches, learning first-hand about the importance of a balanced diet and making positive food choices. They approached this with enthusiasm and independence, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
You can support this learning at home by encouraging your child to eat a balanced diet, choose healthy snacks, drink plenty of water, and take part in regular physical activity such as walking, swimming, or playing outdoors. These small daily habits make a big difference to lifelong health and wellbeing.
Mrs Majidi
