Issue 28 - Friday 25 April 2025

Dear Families

Welcome back to the Summer Term!

In anticipation of the weather improving, here are some seasonal reminders:

  • Make sure all your child's belongings are clearly labelled with their name so we can return them should they be found.

  • Ensure your child has a reusable water bottle with them. This can be refilled as necessary throughout the school day.

  • If your child suffers from hay fever, ensure they have taken the appropriate medication and consider providing them with sunglasses and a peaked cap for when they are outside.

  • Ensure your child has had sunscreen applied at home.

Assembly

This week, our whole school assembly fell on the 22nd April, which was the 32nd anniversary of the murder of Stephen Lawrence in a racist attack. We took the opportunity to not only learn about Stephen and what an inspirational young man he was, but we also reflected on our anti-racism journey as a country, a school and as individuals.

{item_alt_tag}
Stephen’s story is both challenging and inspirational. He was a normal young person who made the most of everyday opportunities and, although his life was short, Stephen's life still provides a positive role model of a life well lived.  Pupils were extremely reflective about what their talents and strengths are, and how they would take and build on opportunities that they are presented with, exactly as Stephen did.

Royal Lane Build Update

The new build team are busy on site completing the building so that it can be occupied in September this year. We will have a small amount of disruption after the May half-term when an internal corridor in the science block will be closed to allow the new block to be joined to the existing building. We are currently reviewing our fire and evacuation plans and will be practising the new routes with pupils to ensure they know where to safely assemble.

Monday 5th May

Just a reminder, that there is a bank holiday on the 5th of May and school will be closed.

I wish you all a very good weekend.

Kind regards,
Mrs J Rigby
Headteacher

Pathway 1 Eid Celebration

Pathway 1 held an Eid Celebration at the end of last term. We were joined by staff, families and visitors from the local mosque. A big thank you to all who provided food and joined us for a wonderful celebration. The weather was lovely, and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed celebrating with good food, music, friends and family.

12-week Work Experience Programme
at SCS Railways (West Ruislip)
in partnership with HS2

During Spring term 25, some of the Year 14 students successfully completed a  12-week work experience programme with SCS Railways at one of their HS2 construction sites. In this programme, our students had valuable experience of working in the following departments – Finance, Surveyor, HR, Documentation control, Admin and Quality control. All students had a great opportunity to learn simple and basic tasks within their departments, communicating with various professionals throughout the programme, attending team meetings in an office-based environment and participating in their charity event.

Towards the end of the programme, all students showed great independence to complete tasks with minimum supervision. On the last day, the Project manager at West Ruislip Hub presented our students with a certificate and a small token gift.

Many thanks to the students for showing great enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards their learning. In addition, many thanks to the MHS staff and the great team at SCS Railways for making this programme very successful.
