At this time of year, it is also good to remind families about some basic expectations in the school.  This provides clarity to all parties and enables you to talk to your child before term starts.

Consultation on early finish to the school day on Wednesday

Many thanks to the 49 parents/carers who responded to this survey.  Having considered all views from all stakeholders we have decided that the school day will not close early on Wednesdays.  School will continue to finish at 3pm.  The timings of the school day for next year are below.

    Uniform & PE Kit

Our uniform requirements, including our Post 16 dress code and PE Kit, can be found on our website and I have shared the link below

Meadow High School - School Uniform

In addition, students are not to wear hoodies inside or outside, regardless of the weather.  Parents should therefore ensure their child has an adequate all-weather coat.  Jewellery is limited to one pair of studs, a watch and a religious symbol.  Nails should not be acrylic, extensions or highly polished.  The school will confiscate incorrect items and reserves the right to withdraw students from lessons or activities in items of jewellery, nails or uniform would mean it would not be safe for them to participate.

    Phones & Devices

In line with recent changes, from September Meadow will be a device free school.  This means that students, including Post 16 students, will not be permitted to use or carry their phones on site.  Phones are still permitted on the journey to and from school.  Every classroom across both campuses has a safe and students must place their phone in this safe every day during registration.  It will then be returned to them before they go home.  The same applies to other smart devices including watches, tracking rings and Air Pods, tablets.  In short, the only devices students are permitted to use on our site are those issued by school.

If a student does not hand their device in then it will be confiscated and a consequence will be put in place.  It will then be returned at the end of the day. We will contact you to inform you if this occurs.  The school has also purchased technology to allow us to do random checks during the school day.

To support this transition, we have engaged the support of a charitable organisation called Rebel Telecom.  They will provide workshops for students and parents, as well as staff training about mobile devices, how to use them appropriately and safely.  I would also encourage parents to talk to their child about this change at home and to get them used to not having a phone or access to a device during the day.  Start small, a few minutes and gradually increase the time away from a screen ready for September.

Every lesson counts – the importance of excellent attendance

Ahead of the new year it is also beneficial to remind parents of our expectations around attendance.  We aspire for all our students to attend school for 95% of the time as research shows students whose attendance is on or above this level achieve strong educational outcomes and have positive next steps.

To ensure your child is well placed to reach this figure we ask that you do not take any holidays during term time and that wherever possible medical appointments, especially routine ones, are taken outside of school hours.  Parent must also ensure that any absence during school time are requested and that any absences are reported on the school absence email.

    attendance@meadowhighschool.org

    Independent Learning

In response to parent voice, we are introducing independent learning at Meadow High School from September.  This will initially be introduced into Key Stage 3 at both Royal Lane and Northwood Road Campus.  This learning, to be completed away from school, will be in the form of a booklet with activities to be completed each week of the school year.  They will then be returned to class for feedback.

    Class bulletin

Again, in response to parent feedback, we are introducing a standardised class newsletter across both sites.  This will be sent once per fortnight to all classes in Year 7 at Royal Lane Campus and to all classes at Northwood Road Campus.  This letter will come from the class teacher to parent emails with hard copies placed in student bags.  It will outline what students have been learning, important diary dates, what is coming up and other reminders for the students.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank colleagues who are leaving us at the end of this year to pursue new opportunities in their career.

Mrs A Porter               Mrs C Wilkes               Ms S Akhter

Miss E Bergin              Mr A Bridgen               Mrs B Cryan

    Mr D Jones

I wish you all an enjoyable summer break and I look forward to seeing you all again in September for another exciting year in the life of our school.

    Best wishes,

Letter to all Pupils in Pathway 1 moving to Northwood Road  Campus in September

This letter is from The London Borough of Hillingdon.

    3rd July 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to update you on the opening of our new Northwood Road Campus. Although the building programme is progressing well, it is currently running approximately one week behind schedule.

We are sincerely sorry for this delay, but please be assured that we are all working tirelessly to ensure that the building is completed to the highest possible standard as soon as possible.

    Because of this delay:

    • Staff will move into the building on Monday 7th September and prepare the classrooms and other specialist areas ready to welcome students the following week.

Arrangements for students week beginning 7th September:

    • Post 16 students will complete their Duke of Edinburgh Silver expedition on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  On Thursday they can work through the student workbook.  On Friday they are welcome to attend the ‘Great Northwood Bake Off.’
    • All students in Years 7 - 14 will be provided with a workbook to complete at home.
    • This will be linked to a themed activity called the ‘Great Northwood Road Bake Off’
    • On Friday 11th September all parents and students are invited to attend our Great Northwood Road Bake Off.  This will be held on the common in the centre of Harefield. The event will run from 11am – 1.30pm.  Parents and students are welcome to attend at any time during this period. Lunch will be served from midday and all students should bring their Bake Off entries with them.
    • Students will also receive a class bulletin outlining learning plans for the following fortnight

Arrangements for students week beginning 14th September

Students will now start on Tuesday 15th September rather than the original planned date. Students who are joining Meadow for the first time will attend the new Northwood Road site on Monday 14th September 2026.

We appreciate this change may be frustrating and we are sorry for any inconvenience it may cause.

If you have any queries about the building work delays or arrangements for the first few weeks, please contact the school office on 01895 443310.

    Your sincerely,

Letter - Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award - KS5 Northwood Road

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As you are now aware, Northwood Road will not be open for pupils until the week beginning 14th September. Whilst we appreciate that this change is inconvenient, it has provided us with an exciting opportunity for pupils working towards their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award to take part in a three-day, two-night expedition.

We are pleased to have secured accommodation at Paccar Scout Camp in Chalfont St Peter.

Pupils will stay in comfortable lodge-style accommodation, which includes modern insulation, central heating, a fully equipped stainless steel kitchen, toilet facilities, and dedicated accessible facilities.

The expedition will take place from Monday 7th September to Wednesday 9th September.

    • Arrival: 9.00 am on Monday 7th September at Meadow High School, Royal Lane
    • Collection: 1.00 pm on Wednesday 9th September from Meadow High School, Royal Lane

Throughout the expedition, pupils will take part in a range of activities designed to develop confidence, independence, and teamwork. Each day will include walking routes tailored to individual needs, alongside exciting activities such as rock climbing, zip lining, team-building challenges, and outdoor cooking.

We would be delighted if your young person could join us for this unique experience. The expedition offers an excellent alternative learning opportunity that supports personal development and progress towards adulthood while contributing to their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. Familiar Meadow High School staff will accompany and support pupils throughout the expedition.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact fbonnar@meadowhighschool.org.

We look forward to what promises to be a memorable and rewarding experience for all involved.

Please see the Kit List attached.

Please return reply slip to inform the school if your child is or isnt attending.

Please also return medical forms if you wish your child to attend (if this changes over the summer please inform F Bonnar before 7th September).

    Yours sincerely,

Letter to 7KS - Trip to Nandos

    2nd July 2026

    Dear Parents/Carers,

To support your child with their social communication and independence skills, I have arranged a trip to Nando's, Beaconsfield, on Tuesday 14th July. This is a great opportunity for students to develop their confidence and practise important life skills in a real-world setting.

We will be leaving school during the school day and returning before the end of the school day. Students will travel with staff and will be supported throughout the visit.

During the trip, students will be encouraged to order their own food, communicate with restaurant staff, make choices independently, and interact positively with their peers. This experience will help reinforce the social communication and independence skills that they are developing in school.

We kindly ask that students do not bring any additional spending money, as there will be no opportunity to make purchases.

Please note that Nando's does not offer halal food at this location. However, there is a wide range of vegetarian and vegan options available for students who may prefer these choices.

We are delighted to share that the cost of the meal has been generously sponsored by one of the parents in the class. We would like to express our sincere thanks for their kindness and support.

As well as being an enjoyable experience, this trip will be a valuable learning opportunity that supports students' personal development and preparation for everyday life.

Please complete the attached permission slip and return it as soon as possible. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you in advance for your support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mrs Sehgal
    Year 7 Tutor

Letter to Parents / Carers - Re: IMPORTANT UPDATE: Changes to Free School Meal (FSM) Eligibility for 2026-27 Academic Year

    26 June 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We are writing to inform you about important national changes to Free School Meal (FSM) eligibility that will come into effect from the start of 2026/27 academic year.

Under new guidance introduced by the Department for Education, the eligibility criteria for FSMs are being significantly expanded.

    What is changing?

From September 2026, all children from households receiving Universal Credit will be entitled to receive FSM, removing the previous household earnings cap. Due to this expansion, the government is introducing two categories of FSM:

Targeted FSM: This covers families receiving Universal Credit with an annual household income of £7400 or less. Pupils in this category will also attract additional funding for the school (Pupil Premium).

Expanded FSM: This is a new category for all other families receiving Universal Credit who have earnings exceeding £7400 per year. Children in this category will receive a free school meal but will not attract Pupil Premium Funding.

Important Action Required: End of Transitional Protection

The government is also ending the transitional protections that have been in place since April 2018. This means that all families, including those currently receiving FSM, must reapply to continue their entitlement under the new rules. If you do not submit a new application, your child’s entitlement will lapse at the end of the current academic year.

    How to apply:

We strongly encourage all families receiving Universal Credit to apply, regardless of your household income and even if you are unsure whether you qualify. Even if your child prefers to bring a packed lunch, confirming your eligibility could unlock vital Pupil Premium funding for Meadow High School.

How to check: Visit the national LGfL FSM Eligibility Checker: https://fsm.lgfl.net/

What you need: You only need to enter your name date of birth, and National Insurance (or NASS) number.

The process: The system links securely to the Department for Education and provides an instant decision. If eligible, please notify the school immediately by emailing attendance@meadowhighschool.org

If you need any assistance filling out these online forms, accessing the internet or verifying your details, please do not hesitate to contact me via calling the school office or emailing: attendance@meadowhighschool.org

Free Holiday Clubs: The Hillingdon HAF Programme

If your child is eligible for benefits-related FSM, they qualify for free places in the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme. This scheme runs during the Easter, Summer, and Winter holidays. It provides specialised activities and creative sessions every day.

SEND Accommodations: The Hillingdon HAF network includes dedicated programs specifically designed for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

How to book: Hillingdon Council uses a booking platform called Eequ. You can browse available activities and register your interest directly on the Hillingdon HAF Eequ Platform: https://eequ.org/hillingdonhaf

Note for the Summer: Bookings for this upcoming summer holiday open on Monday 29th June at 10am. Eligible children can book up to 20 free sessions across the summer.

Broad Financial Help: Household Support & Crisis Grants

Nationally, the funding for universal voucher schemes has ended, and support is now much more targeted. Instead of receiving automatic vouchers, families can access support through Household Support & Crisis Grants.

Household Support Fund: This fund is open to Hillingdon residents who have not received support from the scheme in the past 12 months. It provides support through a voucher system (no cash awards) to help with emergency expenses. You can review full requirements and apply online via the Hillingdon Council Household Support Fund page: https://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/household-support-fund

Crisis and Resilience Grant: If you face an immediate financial crisis, you can apply for daily living assistance or help with essential utility bills. Details and the mandatory income and expenditure forms can be accessed on the Hillingdon Crisis and Resilience Grant directory:  https://pre.hillingdon.gov.uk/support-cost-living/crisis-resilience-grant

Please take 5 minutes today to complete the LGfL online check. Please note that even if your child currently receives Free School Meals, you must still complete this reapplication to ensure their funding continues uninterrupted. We encourage every family to check, even if you think you might not qualify, as every approved application directly increases out school budget. This allows us to invest more into specialized resources for your children. If you require any assistance, please get in touch so that we can assist you.

    Yours Faithfully,

    Toni Kelliher

Letter to selected pupils - Residential Visit Update

    26th June 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Residential Visit Update – Manor Adventure, Abernant Lake, Wales

We are pleased to announce that we have now secured a replacement venue for our residential visit upon the closure of Calvert Devon.

The residential will now take place at Manor Adventure Abernant Lake, a well-established outdoor activity centre offering a wide range of exciting and challenging experiences. We are pleased to announce we will be taking 48 pupils and 12 staff.

Please note that, due to the change of venue, the dates of the residential have also changed. The visit will now take place from Monday 19th April 2027 until Friday 23rd April 2027.

The estimated cost of the residential will be between £500 and £575 per child. We are currently finalising transport and other arrangements, which is why the exact price is still being confirmed. We will share the final cost with families as soon as possible.

If you previously submitted an Expression of Interest for the original Devon residential, there is no need to complete another form. All expressions of interest will automatically be carried over to the Wales residential.

The ballot draw due to happen for spaces for the residential will happen before the Summer term ends.

Thank you for your continued patience and support while we secured an alternative venue. We are delighted that we can now offer this exciting opportunity and look forward to sharing further details with you in due course.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email myself gmillard@meadowhighschool.org

    Yours sincerely,

    Letter from Headteacher

    26 June 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

A very challenging week for our community has come to an end.  I wanted to write to you directly to thank you for your support of the school and also to publicly acknowledge and thank the staff for all of their efforts in ensuring the school has stayed open, has been safe and enabled us to continue to provide lessons and all the other activities that make our school special.  Other than Sports Day, which has been postponed, we have run our DofE expedition and our leavers trips to Brighton and Thorpe Park in a safe way.

To ensure we have remained open we have purchased fans and air conditioning units, as well as excess water.  We have also relocated some classes to different, cooler rooms and have regrouped students and staff where necessary so we can support our own students plus our staff whose children's schools have fully or partially closed.  Students have been allowed to remain inside at break and lunch if desired.  We have also provided ice lollies after lunch in the hottest part of the day to support students and staff colling down after lunch.  These arrangements will remain in place if needed next week.

I would ask you to continue to send your child into school as normal next week.  The weather is forecast to be cooler, but students should still dress appropriately for the weather.  I would ask parents to make sure their child does not wear a jumper to school.  Students should also apply sun cream at home and wear or bring a hat when they go outside.  They must also bring a water bottle and we will ensure students continue to fill it at school.

We will continue to run a full programme of lessons and other activities but we will continue to monitor the weather and make adjustments as needed. As always, we will keep you informed and updated of any changes.

    Yours faithfully

    Graham Cunningham
    Headteacher

All of the other details remain the same, as the conditions are expected to be hot we are reminding everyone in the group to bring additional water and sun protecton on the day (hat, sunglesses etc)

One the 2nd June the Explorer Group will be taking part in a hike activity from Uxbridge back to the school, during the afternoon. The group will be out from school from the beginning of lunchtime and will have returned by the end of school day, so will be able to take their usual transport options home.

As the group will be taking part in this activity during the whole afternoon, they will need to bring a healthy packed lunch with them. They will also need to bring an adequate amount of bottled water for an active afternoon as the hike will be around 2 hours.

The explorers have been instructed on what they should bring with them, including a reasonable sized bag, appropriate clothing for the conditions and have been told that a small amount of snacks would be fine to bring with them.

We will be leaving the school before 1pm and be off site for the whole afternoon, for this activity the explorers are required to be wearing scout scarfs, but there is no expectation for school uniform to be worn, so there is an option to bring their own clothes for the afternoon.

If you have any further questions please contact us.

    Yours sincerely,

    9 June 2026

To all Parents/ Carers of students in Year 13 and 14

I am currently arranging interviews with all Year 13 and 14 students in order to be able to start working on their ‘next steps’. I will be sending out a list of open days and Evenings at Local Colleges and Provisions, once I have had confirmation of dates. College

    Training Provider

    Supported Internship

    Other

It would be beneficial if Parents/Carers were also able to meet with me as your input is vital to ensure that the best conclusion for the students is obtained. I will attend final Annual reviews to ensure that the correct provision is named on the EHCP.

I am at the school all week 9am – 3.00pm, but not available on Monday until the afternoon. I can, however, make other arrangements should these times be unsuitable for you. Please could you contact me through the school on 01895 443310 ext 244 to arrange appointments. I can also be contacted on my mobile 07841021772

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Trip to Whipsnade Zoo - Thursday the 18th of June 2026

We are pleased to inform you that Class IM will be going on an educational trip to Whipsnade Zoo.

This trip is directly linked to our current learning in Theme, where pupils are exploring different animal groups, including mammals, reptiles, birds and amphibians. During the visit, pupils will learn about the characteristics of these groups, their habitats, diets and how their needs are met both in the wild and within a zoo environment. The experience will provide valuable opportunities to see animals up close and talk about them.

We will be leaving school after registration and returning around 2:30 p.m. in time for normal transport home.

Students are required to wear school uniform. Please ensure that your young person has sensible footwear and a coat (depending on the weather conditions on the day).

Students will need to bring their own healthy packed lunch. If your child is entitled to a free school meal, we can provide lunch. Please indicate below your sandwich choice.

To cover the cost of transport and entry, we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £8 per pupil by the 10th of June through ParentPay. Whilst no child will be excluded, if a contribution is not made, please be aware that the trip may not be able to go ahead if insufficient contributions are received. If you have any concerns regarding payment, please contact me.

We hope that your child will be able to take part in this trip, as it is designed to support the learning that takes place in the classroom.

Letter to Class 8SM - Swimming

    Wednesday 20th May 2026

    Dear Parents / Carers,

Re: Swimming Lessons for year 8 students.

Starting on Thursday the 4th June 2026, your child will be having their swimming lessons on a Thursday period 4 and 5, instead of PE. They will not need their PE kit but will need their swimming kit. These lessons are conducted off site and students will be transported there via school mini bus.

These lessons will run until the end of the school year.

These lessons are designed to promote independence as well as develop swimming skills, therefore, I ask that parents do not plan to meet school groups at the pool for any reason. If you have a concern or a question then please do contact me at school to discuss it further.

    They will need to bring:

    • Swimming trunks / costume (no bikinis). A pool appropriate T-shirt if desired.
    • A towel
    • Goggles if required

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Ms C Sojka
    Swim Teacher

Letter to seleted pupils in Year 8 - Harry Potter Trip

    19 May 2026

    Dear Parent/Carer,

To support your child with their learning, we have arranged an educational trip to Warner Bros. Studios on Wednesday 8th July 2026 as part of the Harry Potter program of study.

We will be leaving school after registration at 9am and returning to school in time for transport, therefore you will need to provide your child with a healthy packed lunch, unless they receive a free school meal, in which case a packed lunch will be provided for them.  We will travel on mini buses, which will be driven by MIDAS (qualified) drivers and First-Aiders will also accompany us.

To cover the cost of the trip, we will need to ask for a voluntary contribution of £23 which can be paid via Parent Pay. We have been fortunate enough to get this trip at a negotiated reduced rate and have also received some additional funding. However, without your financial assistance, we will be unable to run this trip and your contribution is greatly appreciated.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you in advance for your support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Ms Sojka
    Year 8 Tutor

Letter to Year 9 - Options Taster Day

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Options Taster Day: 15th May 2026

Please take the time to read through this options booklet with your child to help them make informed decisions about their subject choices for September 2026.

All pupils will have opportunities in school to explore different subjects and ask any questions they may have. Many are already experiencing some of these subjects in their current timetable. On Friday 15th May, students will be off timetable for half of the day to trial a range of available options. During this time, Faculty and Subject Leaders will present the courses and help students understand what each subject involves.

To meet the diverse needs of our students, we aim to offer both accredited and non-accredited courses in most subject areas.

    Please note:

    • The final list of courses available will depend on student interest. A minimum of 10 students is required for a course to run. If fewer than 10 pupils choose a subject, we may not be able to offer it, or may have to merge two similar subjects together.

    • Each pupil will be asked to choose four subjects they are interested in (e.g., Art, Food Technology, Dance, PE) in preference order.

The Faculty and Subject Leaders, along with the relevant Assistant Headteacher, will decide the appropriate level of each course your child can access, based on their needs and abilities (see the booklet for more details).

    • Final option allocations will be discussed with pupils and shared with parents and carers in July.

    Please also be aware:
Some courses span two academic years due to their accreditation requirements.

If you have any questions about the options process or individual subjects, please contact the relevant teacher by email or phone (contact details are included in the booklet).

    Thank you,

Letter to all parents / carers - Updates on School Issues

    7 May 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers

A lot of work has been going on at Meadow High School to ready ourselves for the next academic year and I am writing to you to inform and update you on a number of important points.  I am also asking for your thoughts and views on one important issue in our school.

Meadow High School Vision and Values

As our school grows and we move from one site to two, we have been reviewing and reflecting on our school values.  All stakeholders have been engaged with this process and I have outlined our new values below.  These are being shared with students in assemblies, along with our new school logo. I am delighted to be able to share both of these with you now.

    End of Term Arrangements

To support the packing and moving process to our two sites, the Summer Term will end for students on Friday 17th July at 1pm.  Transport teams have been made aware of this change. Staff will be in school for the following week to prepare for our move to the new site.

    Start of the Autumn Term

To support the move to two sites and for staff to undergo the training they require across two sites, school will start for students after the Summer Break on Monday 7th September.  At Northwood Road this is likely to be in a phased manner across the full week and on Royal Lane our new intake is likely to have some time in school on their own before other students return.  I will share the finer details of this with you nearer to the end of the year.

    New Look School Uniform

New Government legislation related to the number of branded items in school uniform means that we have been looking at our expectations in this area. New students will only be expected to wear two branded items as part of their uniform.   From September students joining the school in Year 7 will be expected to wear the following:

For all other students, the uniform and dress code will remain the same.  However, our supplier will be winding down their stock of the older items and replacing them with the new ones.  If parents are upgrading or replacing school uniform, I would urge you to buy the new look items.

Summer Examination Results Day – Thursday 20th August

For the first time, we would like students who are collecting results for GCSE results or Entry Level Awards in English, Mathematics and Science to come into school between 10am and midday to collect their results in person.  Senior Leaders and key staff will be available to explain results to students and to finalise any potential next steps for students.  Parents and carers are also welcome to join us to celebrate with students and staff.

    Smart Devices

We have seen an increase in smart devices of all kinds, including location trackers, in school recently.  Please remember that these devices are not the responsibility of the school and if they are lost on site or on the journey to and from school, Meadow is not liable for them.  We have also seen that some smart devices contain and present health information.  Please be advised that staff at Meadow High School will not automatically respond to this information as we have separate Health and Care Plans that we follow for students where appropriate.  We are currently looking at our position around smart devices and phones on site in light of the new government guidance on this topic.

    School Day Consultation

Finally for this update letter, I am asking for your views.  From September, we will be operating over two sites.  This makes it challenging to pull all staff together for CPD events on a weekly basis.  Movement between sites at the end of school to facilitate training is also problematic due to the need to support students leaving school on transport and then the practicalities of staff moving between sites after 3pm when traffic is heavy.

One option we are exploring is the possibility of closing the school earlier for one day per week on a Wednesday.  At this stage, nothing is decided, but I would be very keen to canvas your views on this idea to help inform our planning and decision making.  I am also asking staff, the Local Authority, Hillingdon Transport and Governors for their views.  I have placed an outline of the proposed school day from September below.  To assist us please can you complete the short survey found in the link below.

The closing date for responses is Monday 1st June 2026.

    https://forms.gle/DhN9PQibJqL477Pc9

Thank you for taking the time to read this update and I look forward to continuing to update you as we move through the Summer Term.

    Your sincerely

We are pleased to inform you that your child has been invited to attend an educational trip to the V&A Museum on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

This visit has been organised to support learners in developing their understanding of the history of hairdressing, as well as key concepts linked to health and social care. Letter to selected pupils re Bowling Trip

    23 April 2026

    Dear Parent / Carer,

To support your child with their learning, we have arranged an educational visit to Hollywood Bowl in Uxbridge on Friday 24th April, as part of their studies in Personal Development

We will be leaving school at 9.50am and returning to school before lunchtime. We will be travelling by minibus, which will be driven by MIDAS (qualified) trained drivers; first aiders will also accompany us.

Please see the letter that students have written together:

“As a class, we are going to the Hollywood Bowl in Uxbridge. We are planning to go on the 24th April 2026. We will be travelling via school minibus. We are planning to go there as part of our Personal Development curriculum where we have been looking at leisure options within Hillingdon.

We’ve asked for a budget from Mrs Tudor of £7. This means we would need £3 more for the bowling. We would also need a few more for arcades and maybe a snack. Please could I have this?”

We hope that your child will be able to take part in this trip, as it is designed to support the learning that takes place in the lesson and promotes independence in life skills.  Please send students in with cash or a bank card. If you have any enquiries, please feel free to contact Miss Taylor.

    Yours sincerely,
    Miss Taylor
Deputy Head Teacher / Personal Development Teacher

Letter to selected pupils - Devon Residential - 2027

    28 April 2026

    Dear Parents/Carers,

    RE: Devon Residential Trip

    Monday 26th April 2027 - Friday 30th April 2027

I am pleased to say that we are able to run the residential trip to the Calvert Trust, Exmoor, Devon on Monday 26th April 2027 - Friday 30th April 2027

The trip will give pupils an opportunity to take part in outdoor and team building activities such as canoeing, climbing, archery, swimming and many other exciting outdoor activities. It also gives the children a chance to improve personal living skills and social skills, it really is a memorable experience, one which creates fond memories for all involved.

The total cost of the trip at the moment is unconfirmed, but would be in the region of £500-550.

The Calvert Trust prices have gone up this year, but I have requested money from various organisations to help keep the cost down. The cost will include the transport to and from school (coach), food, accommodation, staffing and activities which is amazing value for money.

We are now changing the offer for pupils who receive free school meals. The cost of the trip will be subsidised for the first trip your child attends. Any additional trips that pupils attend after this, parents will be required to pay the full amount. Please note this includes any pupils who have attended any trips previously.

A final price letter will be sent to all parents when confirmed and a payment plan will be available to help stagger payments once the total is confirmed.

We are looking to increase the amount of pupils we are taking to Devon and next year there are 48 places available and these will be allocated via a ballot draw.

If you are interested, please complete the slip below and return to the school by Friday 5th June 2026.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mr G Millard

Re:  Harry Potter Day – Celebrating Fantasy Fiction Storytelling

            Friday 1st May 2026_Non-uniform Day___________________

At Meadow High School we like to find reasons to make life a little more interesting and indulge our love of books. This year is the National Year of Reading so there is even more reason to celebrate Harry Potter Day and the 25th anniversary of the amazing Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films.

We are planning to enjoy the day all week!

    • Friday 1st May come to school dressed as a favourite character from any fantasy fiction story.

ALL WEEK visit our library to

    • explore the books in our librarian’s choice display
    • watch some of our favourite fantasy fiction films
    • enjoy playing communication games, colouring, quizzes and puzzles

REMEMBER:  The Scholastic Book Fair will be running too. [see letter dated 15.04.26]

Don’t worry if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, there are so many other stories in this genre to enjoy. Whether you are trying to train a dragon, on a quest to destroy the one ring, have travelled through your wardrobe to the enchanted world of Narnia or are caught up in the political game-playing in Westeros [Game of Thrones], school will be a place to rest on your journey on the 1st of May!

World of Work: OR come dressed as a writer, illustrator, film/book reviewer, model maker or CGI artist?  Whatever works for you, we hope you enjoy the day!

    Yours faithfully,

Letter to selected pupils only- Exams Results

    23 April 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Receiving your results for any external assessments, tests and examinations is a rites of passage moment for all young people.  Examination results day formally marks the end of one period of formal education and sets you up for the next few years.  It is important that this day is given the importance and recognition that it deserves and that young peoples’ achievements are celebrated.

This year, or the first time, Meadow High School would like to invite all students who are expecting results to come into school on results day to collect their results in person.

On 20th August 2026, students who are collecting GCSE results or Entry Level Awards in English, Mathematics and Science are invited to come into school between 10am – midday.

Senior Leaders and other key staff will be available to explain the results to students and parents and to discuss potential next steps for students on their education journey.  Above all else it enables us to celebrate the student’s achievements with them.

I also extend the invitation to parents and carers, as it is important that you enjoy celebrating with your children and also have an opportunity to ask any questions of the staff.  Any results not collected by midday will be posted home to students as we have done in previous years.

We will be talking to students in assemblies about the importance of collecting results in person and I hope this message will be reiterated at home.  I look forward to seeing you all on results day.  In the meantime, good luck to all students in the final steps of preparation.

    Yours faithfully,

Letter to Year 7 - Trip to Roald Dhal

    Wednesday 15th April 2026

    Dear Parent/Carer,

To support your child with their learning, we have arranged an educational trip to the Roald Dahl Museum on Tuesday 28th April as part of their studies in English.  This is a great opportunity for students to reinforce what they are learning about in their lessons.

We will be leaving school after registration at 9am and returning to school in time for transport.

Please provide your child with a healthy packed lunch.  If your child is entitled to a free school meal, a packed lunch can be provided for them.  Please indicate below if you would like a lunch arranged, along with sandwich choice.  We will travel on the minibus.

To cover the cost of the trip, we do  need to ask for a voluntary contribution of £10 which can be paid via Parent Pay. We have been fortunate enough to get this trip at a negotiated reduced rate and have also received some additional funding. However, without your financial assistance, we will be unable to run this trip and your contribution is greatly appreciated.

As well as being an enjoyable day out, this trip will be an invaluable learning experience to support their English work.  Please complete the attached slip and return it as soon as possible.  If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me. We are asking the pupils to not bring any pocket money, as we will not have time to visit the gift shop.

Thank you in advance for your support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Spring Term 2026

Letter to all Post 16 Parents

    26 March 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to share with you the findings of some recent student voice we have conducted with all Post 16 students in both our pathways that focussed on student conduct and behaviour.   Regrettably, the feedback highlighted some concerns, with students commenting on the poor conduct and choices of a minority of their peers in lessons and in unstructured time.

Students commented to us that some of their peers use unacceptable comments towards each other in lessons and in the Common Room at break and lunch time.  They also commented that in lessons students occasionally throw objects at each other and are on occasion rude to the teachers delivering lessons.

Behaviour of this nature undermines our school values and goes against our code of conduct.  I have shared this feedback with staff and we will be working together in school to reiterate our expectations to all students and to come up with some changes to our approach towards behaviour that all staff will consistently apply.  These will relate to our expectation that all students arrive in school ready to learn, work hard in lessons and respect all members of the Meadow High School Community.  We will begin these changes after the Easter Break.

I am also requesting your support in reiterating this message to your child at home.  Please can you remind your child that they must be in lessons on time, equipped to learn.  They are to engage in the work set and complete it to the best of their ability.  Finally, they need to ensure that both their actions and words treat all members of our school with respect and dignity.

I very much see this as a temporary blip and I am sure we can resolve any underlying issues swiftly for the benefit of everyone.

    Yours faithfully,
    Graham Cunningham

    26th March 2026

    Dear Parent/Carers,

Thank you to all of you who have met either myself, Miss Bonner or Mrs O’Neill in the past two weeks to discuss your child moving to the Northwood Road campus in September 2026. I believe there are three meetings outstanding, so apologies if this letter is premature in your case, but thank you in advance.

One of the biggest concerns raised by parents in relation to the move was concerns around transport. As a result, Mr. Cunningham and I have met the transport team to share the concerns.

Hillingdon Transport Service have agreed to come into school on 23rd April at 9.15am to do a question-and-answer parent coffee morning with parents whose young person is moving to the new site and is an existing student. This is a chance for you to speak face-to-face with the team and express any concerns you have. On this date, we will also have staff available to support you with applying for transport if you’re unsure how to do this or require assistance.

I have put a reply slip on this letter just so that we can prepare accordingly for the appropriate number of parents, but all are welcome. If you are not a Hillingdon resident, this session may not be appropriate for you as it will be talking specifically about Hillingdon's transport services.

When we met, the transport team confirmed that pupils who are already accessing Home to school transport via Hillingdon do not need to reapply. We have given the names of the young people who will be at the Northwood Road site directly to the transport team and they will reroute them without parents needing to do any further actions. Towards the end of the summer term, they will advise you of their new route number, pick up point and the relevant timings.

For parents who have not previously used Hillingdon Home to school transport and have now become eligible or may wish to use the service for the first time, they have requested that you complete an application as soon as possible to assist them with planning the new routes. This can be done prior to the parent session, on the day or by the deadline they will share during the coffee morning.

If you are a family who does not reside in the London borough of Hillingdon and use Home to school transport services, we have reached out to all the relevant teams.

Ealing: have acknowledged the change of site for the two young people affected. They have requested that the parents reapply and let them know that from September 2026 the correct address for transport will be ‘Meadow High, Norwood Road campus, Northwood Road, Harefield, UB9 6ET’ and they will plan accordingly. These families do need to reapply.

Slough: presently we have been unable to get in contact with Slough transport services. We believe this also affects two young people. I would encourage parents to please contact Slough transport and advise them of the change of campus, address above and in case of any difficulties please email me on awillis@meadowhighschool.org. I will continue to try and liaise with them as well.

Harrow: presently this only affects one student who comes in an individual Taxi. I have advised them of the change of address but encouraged the family to also do so.

If any parents, Hillingdon resident or otherwise require any assistance in relation to transport please do email me and I will endeavour to do my best to support you.

    Yours faithfully,
    Miss Willis
    Deputy Head Teacher

Letter to Whole School - Information Meeting with Parents

    3 March 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers

I am excited to announce that we are beginning the process of preparing our move towards ‘One School, Two Sites’ from September 2026.  We have been informed by the construction company, Graham, that the building is running to schedule and is likely to be handed over to us in the summer break ready for students and staff in September.

Engagement with parents is a key element in ensuring that the move is successful and I would like to invite you to attend an information evening at Royal Lane, so I can share our plans for the move with you.  Initially I will be running two workshops on:

    Wednesday 11th March at 5pm

    Thursday 12th March at 9.30am

Both sessions will be held in the Main Hall at Royal Lane.

At these sessions we will share with you information about the following aspects of the move:

    1) This vision for what One School, Two Sites will look like

    2) The timeline for completion of the building

    3) The timeline for moving from Royal Lane to Northwood Road

    4) The criteria by which we have identified students who will be moving to Northwood Road & those remaining at Royal Lane

    5) How we will engage with individual families whose child will be moving to Northwood Road

    6) Details of further engagement events

I look forward to seeing you at one of the two events.  Due to space in the hall and the focus of the sessions, they are designed for parents only.  We will be working with students about the move in a different way, during the school days ahead.

    Yours faithfully

    Graham Cunningham
    Headteacher

Lettet to All Pathway 1 - Eid Celebrations

    3rd March 2026

    Dear Parents/Carers,

On 25th March 2026, Pathway 1 are hosting an Eid Celebration Afternoon as part of Religious Education within Theme learning and PSHCE.

In order to successfully immerse in the learning, we would like to invite parents/carers to join us for a feast and games to celebrate Eid together.  The past two years events have been a great success with families being able to meet teachers, other parents and pupils. There has been delicious food on offer from families and staff, so once again we are requesting for pupils/families to bring in food for the celebration, either homemade or bought. Please note foods must be nut-free and anything homemade requires an accompanying full list of ingredients.

Please return the reply slip confirming attendance and if you wish to take your child home with you afterwards.  You are welcome to take photos of your own child, but please do not take photos of other children or include these in any social media posts.

Please note that: Parking is not allowed in the school car park.

There is space for dropping off food. Cars must then be parked offsite.

Please arrive at 1.45 ready for the Eid Celebration. The event will finish promptly at 2.40.

One of the activities planned for the event is the application of Mehndi on the pupils’ hands.

Mehndi application is a traditional and culturally significant practice during Eid festivities. It’s an opportunity for our students to engage with and celebrate cultural diversity within our school community.

The Mehndi paste we will be using is safe and made from natural ingredients. However, we understand that some parents may have concerns if their child has allergies.

We hope you can join us. Any questions please email fbonnar@meadowhighschool.org.

    Many thanks,
    F Bonnar

Letter to Whole School - World Book Day

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Re:  World Book Day & Careers Week:  Monday 2nd – Friday 6th March 2026

Curriculum link Humanities Faculty – Exploring Our Local History + Celebrating MHS 60th Anniversary

World Book Day and Careers Week is nearly here! As always, we use this as a fun way to promote core literacy and communication skills as well as build links with to life beyond school.  This year is the National Literacy Trust’s Year of Reading which makes this even more special. It is also worth remembering that World Book Day is celebrated in over 100 countries.

To support our students in building the skills and knowledge needed for life beyond Meadow, we are teaming up with the Humanities Faculty to focus on exploring our local history and celebrating Meadow High School’s 60th anniversary year.  We have a wide range of events planned to ensure that all students have an opportunity to gain knowledge of their local area and build awareness of the world of work including discussing their aspirations for the future. During the week students will

    • take part in a competition – Find the most interesting fact about your local area [ask parents/ carers to use their knowledge or research information] – Great prizes to be won!
    • take part in a range of job or history/geography related activities with some very special visitors from the world of work
    • visit our library to add to our local history VERY big book and pop by at lunchtime to hear staff reading some favourite stories [check out our YouTube channel, Meadow High School Hello, too!]
    • join in special assemblies and collect the World Book Day book they have chosen
    • take part in a non-uniform day on Thursday 5th March – the theme this year is Reading for Pleasure so come dressed as a favourite character from a story or for a job they are interested in.
    • AND a special event is happening on Friday – weather permitting [so keep your fingers crossed for us!]

We hope that the students all have a fantastic week!

Letter to selected students - Taster Driving Sessions

    Monday 9th February 2026

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We are delighted to let you know that on Monday 2nd March 2026 a certified driving school will be partnering with us to offer taster driving lessons to eligible students here at Meadow High School.  As this is risk assessed by the company and by us, and is on our property, students do not need to have a driver's license to access this opportunity.

This exciting programme gives students the chance to get behind the wheel of a real vehicle and experience professional driving instruction in a safe, supportive and structured environment. Each taster session will last 15 minutes and will be delivered by a fully qualified driving instructor during the school day.

This is a trial initiative, so places are limited for this first round and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If the programme proves successful, we hope to build on this opportunity in the future as part of our wider Life Skills Curriculum.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to be introduced to driving and take their first step towards this important life skill.

Parental consent is required before any student can take part. If you would like your child to participate, please complete the reply slip below. Students who have secured a place will be informed by Friday 27th February.

    Kind regards,

    Mrs J Tudor
    Vocational Faculty Leader/Teacher

Letter to Whole School - Mental Health Week

    2nd February 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Meadow High School will be recognising Children’s Mental Health Week by taking part in the Shine Bright, Wear Bright non-uniform day on Thursday 12th February 2026.

On this day, pupils are invited to wear their favourite colour or outfit to express how they are feeling. This can be as simple or as creative as they like. Shine Bright, Wear Bright is an opportunity to encourage self expression and celebrate a diverse range of emotions.

Throughout the week, pupils will be learning about mental health during assemblies and PSHCE lessons. This will provide an opportunity for everyone to be open, learn more, and help raise positive awareness within our school community.

If you would like to support this fundraising event, donations can be made directly via the CHUMS Charity website: https://chumscharity.org/sbwb26/

Thank you for your continued support.

    Yours sincerely,

Letter to Whole School - Ramadan Arrangements

    26 January 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As Ramadan approaches, we would like to share the arrangements we will have in place to support students who are observing the month of fasting.

We are keen to ensure that all students feel respected, supported, and able to engage positively with school life during this important period.

    Prayer and Reflection

    • We will provide staffed rooms for students who wish to pray during the school day. These spaces will be separated by gender, but will be mixed aged.
    • In addition, there will be staffed rooms available for students who are fasting and would like a quiet place to rest or relax. These spaces will be mixed gender and age.
    • We will have prayer mats for students to use, these will be shared.
    • We will also have copies of the Quran provided including simple print for young learners.

    Lessons and Wellbeing

Students will be encouraged to attend all lessons as normal. However, we recognise that fasting can be challenging, particularly during physical or practical lessons. Students will be supported to take short breaks where required, and staff will be mindful of their wellbeing throughout the day.

Thank you for your continued support, and we wish all families observing Ramadan a peaceful and meaningful month. We are planning to celebrate Eid with parents and carers this year across both pathways, so please keep an eye out for information in due course.

    Kind regards,
    Michelle Taylor / Anju Mistry

    20 January 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Hillingdon Joint SEND Careers Fair

    Date: Thursday 12 February 2026
    Time: 11:00am – 2:00pm
Venue: Hewens College, Hewens Road, Hayes, UB4 8J

Years 12 and 13 pupils at Meadow have been invited to attend the Hillingdon Joint SEND Careers Fair on Thursday 12th February 2026. This event provides a valuable opportunity for pupils and their parents/carers to explore a wide range of post-Meadow options and to discuss future pathways together.

We strongly encourage parents/carers to accompany their young person to the event so that you can jointly review and discuss the opportunities available.

Please complete and return the form below to confirm whether you will be taking your young person to the Careers Fair on 12 February. Pupils who attend the event will not be required to attend school on that day, and their absence will be authorised.

If you are unable to accompany your young person, the school may be able to transport pupils to the event via public transport. While this will still provide a valuable experience for the pupils, it will not give parents or carers the opportunity to view the options themselves or discuss them directly at the event.

Whether attending with family or as part of the school group, pupils will need to bring a packed lunch. Light refreshments, including tea, coffee, cakes, and biscuits, will be provided at the venue.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to myself Pathway 1 pupils or Aggie Fabisch Pathway 2 pupils.

    Yours sincerely,

    Faye Bonnar

Letter to Whole School from the Headteacher

    14 January 2026

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to the new term.  I wanted to write you, as I did in the Autumn Term, to share with you our focus for the term ahead.  As you are well aware our main priority is to plan and prepare for the opening of our second site at Northwood Road from September 2026.  This will involve a major review of our student grouping and our curriculum, including independent learning, as we move towards the site being opened.  I will keep you informed of developments as the building evolves.

Away from this significant project we will also be focusing on getting the basics right.  It is important that students adopt small habits in school that they can apply to their life away from Meadow High School now and in the future.  These basics are summarised in 4 simple statements

    • Be Present
    • Be Smart
    • Be Hard Working
    • Be Kind

In the Autumn Term we did a lot of work with students and training with staff to unpick what we mean by these statements and how we can support students in achieving them.  We have shared them with students in assemblies this week and we will be prioritising them in the weeks ahead. I want to share them with you at the start of this term so you can reinforce them at home.

Being present means arriving in school and to lessons on time, every day.  Being smart means adhering to the correct dress code and not being a screen addict.  Every so often it is good to look up and engage in the world around us. Working hard and applying yourself is expected in every aspect of school life and being kind is important in order to grow as a community and as an individual.

We will be recognising students who demonstrate they are meeting these four fundamentals through letters from me and Valued Behaviour Notes home.  We will also be reinforcing our processes for students who need support in meeting our high expectations.  These will always be based on strong positive relationships, but will involve periods of reflection for students and restorative conversations where necessary.  We have developed scripts to support staff and students in these processes as well as using corridor passes when students need to be away from their classrooms to reset and regulate.

All of these ideas stem from your feedback in the first term.  You shared your views through the survey and the drop-in sessions many of you attended.  I hope this letter and our actions demonstrate we will always listen and act upon stakeholder views.

I wish you well for the term ahead.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mr Cunningham
    Headteacher

Letter to Class 6MS - Press Trip

    Friday 9th January 2026

    Dear Parents/Carers,

To support your child with their learning, we have arranged an educational visit to Press Breakfast Café in Hillingdon on Friday 16th January, as part of their studies in Personal Development

We will be leaving school at 9.30 and returning to school at 12.00. We will be travelling by minibus, which will be driven by MIDAS (qualified) trained drivers, first aiders will also accompany us.

Each student has chosen their own option they would like to purchase from the Café. The school have a budget of £7 per student to contribute towards their item. Please see your child’s individualized letter for the additional contribution.

We hope that your child will be able to take part in this trip, as it is designed to support the learning that takes places in the lesson and promotes independence in life skills. Please send students in with cash on or before Friday. If you have any enquiries, please feel free to contact Miss Taylor.

    Yours sincerely,

Letter to Whole School - New Report Template

    Dear Parent/Carer,

New report template - Spring term

At Meadow High School we are trialling a new report template for the Spring term. Please see the following information below and an example of what the report will look like. The new report will be sent home the week commencing Monday 9th March 2026.

To ensure that our reports are clear and supportive of your child’s learning journey, we have introduced a consistent set of descriptors across key areas. These descriptors are designed to give you a broad picture of how your child is progressing both academically and personally.

    Understanding the Report Template

Your child’s report will include teacher judgements in the following areas:

    • Attendance – How consistently your child is attending school and engaging with the learning environment.

    • Attitude – Your child’s general approach to learning, including motivation, effort, and perseverance.

    • Engagement – How your child participates in lessons, contributes to discussions, and focuses on tasks.

    • Knowledge and Skills – Your child’s understanding of subject content and their ability to apply what they’ve learned.

Each of these areas is assessed using one of four developmental levels:

    Assessment Level Descriptors

    Level

    What it means

    Emerging

Your child is starting to develop in this area and is building the foundations for future progress. With support and encouragement, they are beginning to make positive steps.

    Developing

Your child is showing growing confidence and consistency. They are engaging more regularly and starting to apply skills more independently.

    Secure

Your child has reached a good level of understanding or behaviour in this area. They are able to work with confidence and consistency across different contexts.

    Generalising

Your child is confidently applying their learning in a wide range of situations. They show leadership, initiative, and a strong level of independence in this area.

This system allows us to recognise not only academic achievement, but also the personal qualities and behaviours that contribute to a successful learning experience.

We encourage you to talk through the report with your child, celebrate their progress, and reflect on any areas where further growth can be supported.

You will have the opportunity to discuss this with the subject teacher on Parents Evening on Tuesday 17th March 2026.

Thank you for your continued support in helping every child thrive.

    Yours sincerely,

    G Millard
    EFL Lead

Letter to Class 6SR - Class Changes

    6th January 2026

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to inform you that your child’s class teacher remains absent at this time. While there is a possibility that they may return to work within the next three weeks, this is currently uncertain. As a result, we need to make some small, temporary adjustments to your child’s timetable to ensure continuity of learning and appropriate support.

During registration time, your child will join the class they were with during the final week of last term. For the remainder of the day, they will follow a slightly adapted timetable, which is attached to this letter for your reference.

We have already spoken with the children to explain the changes and to provide reassurance. Staff will continue to support your child closely throughout this period, with their learning and wellbeing remaining our top priorities.

We appreciate that changes to routine can be unsettling, and we thank you for your understanding and support during this time. Should you have any questions or wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mrs AJ Fabisch
Assistant Head Teacher - KS5 and post 19 Careers Leader
