Letter to Whole School - World Book Day

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Re:  World Book Day & Careers Week:  Monday 2nd – Friday 6th March 2026

Curriculum link Humanities Faculty – Exploring Our Local History + Celebrating MHS 60th Anniversary

World Book Day and Careers Week is nearly here! As always, we use this as a fun way to promote core literacy and communication skills as well as build links with to life beyond school.  This year is the National Literacy Trust’s Year of Reading which makes this even more special. It is also worth remembering that World Book Day is celebrated in over 100 countries.

To support our students in building the skills and knowledge needed for life beyond Meadow, we are teaming up with the Humanities Faculty to focus on exploring our local history and celebrating Meadow High School’s 60th anniversary year.  We have a wide range of events planned to ensure that all students have an opportunity to gain knowledge of their local area and build awareness of the world of work including discussing their aspirations for the future. During the week students will

    • take part in a competition – Find the most interesting fact about your local area [ask parents/ carers to use their knowledge or research information] – Great prizes to be won!
    • take part in a range of job or history/geography related activities with some very special visitors from the world of work
    • visit our library to add to our local history VERY big book and pop by at lunchtime to hear staff reading some favourite stories [check out our YouTube channel, Meadow High School Hello, too!]
    • join in special assemblies and collect the World Book Day book they have chosen
    • take part in a non-uniform day on Thursday 5th March – the theme this year is Reading for Pleasure so come dressed as a favourite character from a story or for a job they are interested in.
    • AND a special event is happening on Friday – weather permitting [so keep your fingers crossed for us!]

We hope that the students all have a fantastic week!

Letter to selected students - Taster Driving Sessions

    Monday 9th February 2026

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We are delighted to let you know that on Monday 2nd March 2026 a certified driving school will be partnering with us to offer taster driving lessons to eligible students here at Meadow High School.  As this is risk assessed by the company and by us, and is on our property, students do not need to have a driver's license to access this opportunity.

This exciting programme gives students the chance to get behind the wheel of a real vehicle and experience professional driving instruction in a safe, supportive and structured environment. Each taster session will last 15 minutes and will be delivered by a fully qualified driving instructor during the school day.

This is a trial initiative, so places are limited for this first round and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If the programme proves successful, we hope to build on this opportunity in the future as part of our wider Life Skills Curriculum.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to be introduced to driving and take their first step towards this important life skill.

Parental consent is required before any student can take part. If you would like your child to participate, please complete the reply slip below. Students who have secured a place will be informed by Friday 27th February.

    Kind regards,

    Mrs J Tudor
    Vocational Faculty Leader/Teacher

Letter to Whole School - Mental Health Week

    2nd February 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Meadow High School will be recognising Children’s Mental Health Week by taking part in the Shine Bright, Wear Bright non-uniform day on Thursday 12th February 2026.

On this day, pupils are invited to wear their favourite colour or outfit to express how they are feeling. This can be as simple or as creative as they like. Shine Bright, Wear Bright is an opportunity to encourage self expression and celebrate a diverse range of emotions.

Throughout the week, pupils will be learning about mental health during assemblies and PSHCE lessons. This will provide an opportunity for everyone to be open, learn more, and help raise positive awareness within our school community.

If you would like to support this fundraising event, donations can be made directly via the CHUMS Charity website: https://chumscharity.org/sbwb26/

Thank you for your continued support.

    Yours sincerely,

Letter to Whole School - Ramadan Arrangements

    26 January 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As Ramadan approaches, we would like to share the arrangements we will have in place to support students who are observing the month of fasting.

We are keen to ensure that all students feel respected, supported, and able to engage positively with school life during this important period.

    Prayer and Reflection

    • We will provide staffed rooms for students who wish to pray during the school day. These spaces will be separated by gender, but will be mixed aged.
    • In addition, there will be staffed rooms available for students who are fasting and would like a quiet place to rest or relax. These spaces will be mixed gender and age.
    • We will have prayer mats for students to use, these will be shared.
    • We will also have copies of the Quran provided including simple print for young learners.

    Lessons and Wellbeing

Students will be encouraged to attend all lessons as normal. However, we recognise that fasting can be challenging, particularly during physical or practical lessons. Students will be supported to take short breaks where required, and staff will be mindful of their wellbeing throughout the day.

Thank you for your continued support, and we wish all families observing Ramadan a peaceful and meaningful month. We are planning to celebrate Eid with parents and carers this year across both pathways, so please keep an eye out for information in due course.

    Kind regards,
    Michelle Taylor / Anju Mistry

    20 January 2026

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Hillingdon Joint SEND Careers Fair

    Date: Thursday 12 February 2026
    Time: 11:00am – 2:00pm
Venue: Hewens College, Hewens Road, Hayes, UB4 8J

Years 12 and 13 pupils at Meadow have been invited to attend the Hillingdon Joint SEND Careers Fair on Thursday 12th February 2026. This event provides a valuable opportunity for pupils and their parents/carers to explore a wide range of post-Meadow options and to discuss future pathways together.

We strongly encourage parents/carers to accompany their young person to the event so that you can jointly review and discuss the opportunities available.

Please complete and return the form below to confirm whether you will be taking your young person to the Careers Fair on 12 February. Pupils who attend the event will not be required to attend school on that day, and their absence will be authorised.

If you are unable to accompany your young person, the school may be able to transport pupils to the event via public transport. While this will still provide a valuable experience for the pupils, it will not give parents or carers the opportunity to view the options themselves or discuss them directly at the event.

Whether attending with family or as part of the school group, pupils will need to bring a packed lunch. Light refreshments, including tea, coffee, cakes, and biscuits, will be provided at the venue.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to myself Pathway 1 pupils or Aggie Fabisch Pathway 2 pupils.

    Yours sincerely,

    Faye Bonnar

Letter to Whole School from the Headteacher

    14 January 2026

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to the new term.  I wanted to write you, as I did in the Autumn Term, to share with you our focus for the term ahead.  As you are well aware our main priority is to plan and prepare for the opening of our second site at Northwood Road from September 2026.  This will involve a major review of our student grouping and our curriculum, including independent learning, as we move towards the site being opened.  I will keep you informed of developments as the building evolves.

Away from this significant project we will also be focusing on getting the basics right.  It is important that students adopt small habits in school that they can apply to their life away from Meadow High School now and in the future.  These basics are summarised in 4 simple statements

    • Be Present
    • Be Smart
    • Be Hard Working
    • Be Kind

In the Autumn Term we did a lot of work with students and training with staff to unpick what we mean by these statements and how we can support students in achieving them.  We have shared them with students in assemblies this week and we will be prioritising them in the weeks ahead. I want to share them with you at the start of this term so you can reinforce them at home.

Being present means arriving in school and to lessons on time, every day.  Being smart means adhering to the correct dress code and not being a screen addict.  Every so often it is good to look up and engage in the world around us. Working hard and applying yourself is expected in every aspect of school life and being kind is important in order to grow as a community and as an individual.

We will be recognising students who demonstrate they are meeting these four fundamentals through letters from me and Valued Behaviour Notes home.  We will also be reinforcing our processes for students who need support in meeting our high expectations.  These will always be based on strong positive relationships, but will involve periods of reflection for students and restorative conversations where necessary.  We have developed scripts to support staff and students in these processes as well as using corridor passes when students need to be away from their classrooms to reset and regulate.

All of these ideas stem from your feedback in the first term.  You shared your views through the survey and the drop-in sessions many of you attended.  I hope this letter and our actions demonstrate we will always listen and act upon stakeholder views.

I wish you well for the term ahead.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mr Cunningham
    Headteacher

Letter to Whole School - New Report Template

    Dear Parent/Carer,

New report template - Spring term

At Meadow High School we are trialling a new report template for the Spring term. Please see the following information below and an example of what the report will look like. The new report will be sent home the week commencing Monday 9th March 2026.

To ensure that our reports are clear and supportive of your child’s learning journey, we have introduced a consistent set of descriptors across key areas. These descriptors are designed to give you a broad picture of how your child is progressing both academically and personally.

    Understanding the Report Template

Your child’s report will include teacher judgements in the following areas:

    • Attendance – How consistently your child is attending school and engaging with the learning environment.

    • Attitude – Your child’s general approach to learning, including motivation, effort, and perseverance.

    • Engagement – How your child participates in lessons, contributes to discussions, and focuses on tasks.

    • Knowledge and Skills – Your child’s understanding of subject content and their ability to apply what they’ve learned.

Each of these areas is assessed using one of four developmental levels:

    Assessment Level Descriptors

    Level

    What it means

    Emerging

Your child is starting to develop in this area and is building the foundations for future progress. With support and encouragement, they are beginning to make positive steps.

    Developing

Your child is showing growing confidence and consistency. They are engaging more regularly and starting to apply skills more independently.

    Secure

Your child has reached a good level of understanding or behaviour in this area. They are able to work with confidence and consistency across different contexts.

    Generalising

Your child is confidently applying their learning in a wide range of situations. They show leadership, initiative, and a strong level of independence in this area.

This system allows us to recognise not only academic achievement, but also the personal qualities and behaviours that contribute to a successful learning experience.

We encourage you to talk through the report with your child, celebrate their progress, and reflect on any areas where further growth can be supported.

You will have the opportunity to discuss this with the subject teacher on Parents Evening on Tuesday 17th March 2026.

Thank you for your continued support in helping every child thrive.

    Yours sincerely,

    G Millard
    EFL Lead

Letter to Class 6SR - Class Changes

    6th January 2026

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to inform you that your child’s class teacher remains absent at this time. While there is a possibility that they may return to work within the next three weeks, this is currently uncertain. As a result, we need to make some small, temporary adjustments to your child’s timetable to ensure continuity of learning and appropriate support.

During registration time, your child will join the class they were with during the final week of last term. For the remainder of the day, they will follow a slightly adapted timetable, which is attached to this letter for your reference.

We have already spoken with the children to explain the changes and to provide reassurance. Staff will continue to support your child closely throughout this period, with their learning and wellbeing remaining our top priorities.

We appreciate that changes to routine can be unsettling, and we thank you for your understanding and support during this time. Should you have any questions or wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mrs AJ Fabisch
Assistant Head Teacher - KS5 and post 19 Careers Leader
