    • Year 7 Trip to the Roald Dahl Museum

      Published 26/03/24

In line with their current literary focus on "George's Marvellous Medicine," Year 7 students embarked on a trip to the Roald Dahl Museum. Travelling by coach, they were greeted by museum staff upon arrival. Led by a Learning Session Leader, students explored various sections of the museum, including the story centre, solo gallery, and boy gallery. They also participated in a sensory storytelling experience inspired by the book. Following lunch, the students embarked on a village trail walk, tracing Roald Dahl's footsteps for inspiration, and discovering the settings that influenced his stories.

    • Residential Trip to Devon

      Published 25/03/24

Last week, 32 pupils and staff attended a residential trip to The Calvert Trust in Exmoor. During the week, pupils participated in many different activities, which included canoeing, abseiling, horse riding, archery, crate stacking and biking! These activities provided pupils with the chance to face and conquer different fears and all pupils made their own personal achievements on the trip.

Other schools and families who were attending their own trip on the site commented on how amazing the pupils were, quoting 'Your school should be extremely proud of the attitude, manners and behaviour of all students, and they are a credit to your school!' Which is amazing praise and all pupils should be extremely proud of themselves.

Diego, who attended the trip, wrote some words about his experience of the Devon trip.

'Devon is such a nice place to go for a few days away. The Calvert Trust is a place to stay and enjoy. You can have fun mixing with other people from school, enjoy late night activities and the food is fantastic. During the day there are so many great activities for you to enjoy. Some you will find interesting and some a bit scary as they involve heights. The staff are amazing and supportive. So every March come and join the fun and get away for a few days!

My favourite thing about Devon is all the activities but crate stacking is my ultimate place because I enjoyed beating the record and they call me the crate stacking king!!'

Information and letters will soon be coming out for the Devon 2025 trip!

      Published 14/03/24

Across the school last week we celebrated World Book Day and, working with the Vocational Faculty and our Careers Team, explored ideas for life beyond MeadowKey providers kindly gave up time to come and meet our students, running talks and workshops to explain the skills and knowledge needed for different career paths.  The students had a great deal of fun and staff enjoyed seeing them so engaged in the different work-related activities, enthusiastically sharing thoughts about their future goals.

      Green Corridor
      https://www.greencorridor.org.uk/

Green Corridor run a range of Horticulture, Catering and Personal Employability programmes; the level of the learner will determine their core aim and their group. Courses are offered at Entry Level,  Level 1 and 2; the curriculum is individualised and depending on the learner they teach skills needed for either Horticulture or Catering.  Our Year 9s and Year 10s had the opportunity to meet the team and practise some horticulture skills.

ISG took a break from the hard work of constructing our new building to come and talk to all students in the school. They saw each Key Stage over four sessions, explaining the stages of the build and all the skills and trades that are needed to get the job done FYI the list was huge!  Our students had lots of questions as you can imagine; they also had the opportunity to examine some of the materials the build team are using.

      BUILD - https://www.buildtraining.co.uk/

BUILD is an independent training centre based in Hayes that offers learners of all ages courses and employment opportunities in construction.  We were so lucky to have a team of four skilled trainers run taster sessions in plumbing, electrical, brick laying and woodwork & tiling for our Year 8s, 9s, 10s, 11s and 12s. Students showed a really good aptitude for these trades, if ISG get stuck, we can definitely offer support!

      Marriott Hotel Project Search https://www.meadowhighschool.org/_site/data/files/pupils/E318A14417B3661DB7A2459884EE0160.pdf

Ex-students Brian and Michael returned to school to talk about the jobs they do at the Marriott in the Hospitality and Maintenance Departments.  They have both worked hard and shown a great deal of resilience to build very successful careers through this project. The students in Years 11 and 12 were interested in finding out the transferrable skills and knowledge they could gain through this project. A huge thank you to Brian and Michael for passing on such valuable advice.

Please take a moment to watch this video – you will meet Brian and Michael but also gain a clear insight into how this programme supports students into the world of work.

Planetarium Domes  - thanks to a collaboration with the Humanities and Technology Faculties, we were able to offer a fabulous opportunity to explore our world and travel into space.  The students really enjoyed this method of learning because they had full permission to lie on the floor and let the learning quite literally wash over them

A huge thank you to all our providers, amazing Careers Team and all the students and staff for making this such an exciting and interesting week!  Advance Notice:  Next year we will be teaming up with the PE Faculty to have fun and explore ideas for career opportunities and well-being linked to this important area of the curriculum.

ALL students had the opportunity to visit during the week to spend a £40 class book token, working as a team to choose some new books for their class reading library.

Thanks to your generosity we now have 941 reward points to spend on books for our library and to encourage reading in school.
