Weekly Bulletin - Issue 27 - Friday 1 April 2022

Issue 27 - Friday 1 April 2022

Reminder:

Today is last day of term
School Finishes at 2pm today

Dear Families,

I hope this finds you well and looking forward to the Easter break with your family.

Over the break we are pleased to be moving back into a part of the school that has been undergoing refurbishment. This includes many of our specialist rooms for DT, Art and Science.  We will now have a second Art room and our Library has had a significant facelift and is no longer blue!  Additionally, our Therapy spaces which were previously housed in wooden 'chalets' will be moving into a converted classroom space within the refurbished block.  From the 19th April, the week we return to school, staff will be unpacking and arranging the spaces ready for your children.  During this time all lessons will continue in other rooms across the site. After this, we will then be looking forward to the opening of your Sports Hall and changing rooms after the summer.

The arrangements for PE, dance and uniform will change once our changing facilities are open. Pupils will be required to have not only the correct school uniform, but also correct PE kit, which they will change into as needed.  We will be auditing pupils' uniforms and PE kit over the summer term and your child's Form Tutor or PE teacher will write to you to let you know any uniform your child is missing, so you can be fully prepared for September 2022.

Thank you to all families who have attended a stakeholder information session and to Pathway 1 families who have shared their thoughts with us in the Northwood Road questionnaires.  We have run 6 sessions and, using feedback from these sessions and from the questionnaire responses we received, we have created a Frequently Asked Question document that we shared with you last week.

Moving forward we will be holding some face to face sessions for the families of pupils in Pathway 1 to help us move forward in partnership. Please look out for your invitation.

We are delighted to welcome Kathleen Bentley to the team as our Welfare Lead. Kathleen will be starting with us at the end of April and her role in the school incorporates attendance, home liaison, care plans and extended school.  She will be supported by our new Welfare Admin Officer, Peter Heffernan.  Peter may be familiar to many of you as he currently works as part of our Reception Team. Our third team member, who you will be very familiar with, is Alison Wallington, our Welfare Officer.  Please look out for opportunities to meet the team at coffee mornings and virtual events over the next couple of terms.

Very best wishes,

Mrs J Rigby
Headteacher

Retirement Tribute

This week, our longest serving staff member has taken a well deserved retirement.

Pauline Hardy joined Meadow High School in 1990 as a Teaching Assistant.  Her mother was the school secretary at the time and suggested to Pauline that she would probably like working at the school. She definitely did and, 32 years later, after becoming an    HLTA and going on to lead our    ever-growing team of Teaching Assistants, we are wishing her well for the next chapter of her life.

Pauline - Thank you for your tremendous service!

Mrs J Rigby - Headteacher

Staff organised a thank you celebration for Pauline.   Thanks to Kaity's Bakes for the beautiful cake, Nim Virdee for providing samosas, Lea & kitchen staff for making sandwiches & Roosters for donating food fo the celebration.

Devon Residential Trip 2022

The touring party left Meadow High School on Monday 14th March and made their way down the M4 towards Devon. The sun was shining, and the pupils were ready to take on the packed week of activities.

32 pupils and 8 staff members attend the trip to Calvert Trust, Exmoor.  Pupils and staff took part in various activities such as; Horse riding, archery, climbing, biking, abseiling and crate stacking. Evening entertaining including swimming, football and films.

Pupils were non-stop for the four days and were treated to some fantastic food throughout the week at Calvert Trust.  To finish the action packed week, everyone (especially Mr Brady) was able to show off their dance moves at the disco on Thursday night.

Lots of pupils are already looking forward to attending the residential trip next year.

Class KM - Fair Shot Cafe Trip

Last week Class KM travelled via public transport into central London to Fair Shot Cafe. Fair Shot Cafe offers training and employment to young adults with learning disabilities.

The class planned the route, wrote letters to their parents / carers asking for permission and researched the trip themselves. Rebecca guided us on the route as we caught buses, trains and walked around Mayfair, London. Jay says he enjoyed the opportunity to see young adults with additional needs working in central London and Josh believed it was inspirational. Paige said it was a lovely day out and she enjoyed interacting with the staff at the cafe. The class also enjoyed a McDonald’s afterwards before returning back to school just before 3pm.
