Weekly Bulletin - Issue 19 - Friday 28 January 2022

Issue 19 - Friday 28 January 2022

Dear Families

I hope this finds you and your loved ones well.  We know lots of families, pupils and staff are currently struggling with the impact of Covid infections, and we are seeing the highest infection rates this week within our community throughout the pandemic. To reduce the risk of infection, please ensure you complete twice weekly Lateral Flow Tests and do not send your child to school if they have symptoms associated with a Covid infection.

We are continuing to encourage pupils to have good hand hygiene, and we would ask that this is something that is reinforced at home so that pupils transfer this understanding from school to home and back again.

National Schools Breakfast Program

We are delighted to have successfully signed up to the National School Breakfast Program. Every pupil will now be able to have either a half bagel or small bowl or cereal every day FOR FREE should they choose to.  The kitchen team is sourcing a breakfast bar with cereal dispensers and a toaster so that pupils who are able to, can prepare their own breakfast.  We are also providing free fruit from our Pupil Premium funding as another option.  Pupils can either just have the free food or they can have the free food and additional items from the full breakfast menu. Some pupils have asked me if they can still have the free breakfast if they already had breakfast at home and the answer is YES!  We call this Hobbiting (having a second breakfast!) and we think it's a great idea as a small extra amount of food just as pupils arrive can help boost their energy levels which also helps concentration.

Water

We encourage pupils to sip water throughout the day as dehydration can creep up on them and has a seriously adverse effect on their ability to learn and on their behaviour.  If your child doesn't have a water bottle please consider getting them one or simply reuse a plastic bottle. Please ensure these are labelled.

Uniform

Whilst speaking of labelling, please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform at all times, even on PE days and that each item is clearly labelled so that we can return it to your child.  Unlabelled items are put out once a term for pupils to look through and to reclaim anything they have lost.  We then dispose of any remaining items and sometimes this includes expensive winter coats!

Very best wishes to you all for a happy and peaceful weekend.

Harry Potter Day In School

On the 3rd of February pupils and staff are invited to celebrate their love of Harry Potter with us. This date commemorates the 25th anniversary of the first publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Pupils can choose to wear a costume, come as their favourite character or simply join in the fun!

STEEL BONES WALKING CHALLENGE

On Tuesday 25th January, our 6th Form students took part in a charity walk to raise awareness and funds for Steel Bones. This charity has been particularly supportive of one of our staff members. Students enjoyed a morning walk in the local area and even asked if we could do it more often!

Thank you for your kind donation and continued support.
