Weekly Bulletin - Issue 18 - Friday 21 January 2022

Issue 18 - Friday 21 January 2022

Dear Families

Happy New Year! Unfortunately, I was one of the recent Covid statistics, but I am so glad to be back at school again now.

Covid

We are seeing far more cases at the moment, most of which are contracted outside school. Please can we remind families to continue with twice weekly lateral flow tests of their child as this is proving effective in identifying cases. If you do have a positive case within your home we are happy to carry out the daily lateral flow tests here at school as your child arrives, so we can monitor and prevent further transmission.

Harry Potter

On the 3rd of February pupils and staff are invited to celebrate their love of Harry Potter with us. This date commemorates the 25th anniversary of the first publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Pupils can choose to wear a costume, come as their favourite character or simply join in the fun!

Attendance

I know that many of you will know Berni Gamble who has been our Attendance Officer for many years.  After 27 years of service at Meadow High School Berni will be leaving us after accepting voluntary redundancy following a restructuring of her role.  I'm sure you will join me in thanking Berni for her commitment and service to the school, its pupils and parents over this time and wish her the very best for her future endeavours.

Best wishes for a peaceful weekend.

Dear Parents/Carers

As we all know, the rules on Covid19 are constantly changing and it can all be very confusing!

I thought it would be helpful to include a ‘guide’ to help you through the maze of information. Please be aware that this can change at any moment - only last week, guidance changed on the length of self-isolation for double vaccinated people!

The important points are:

  • If you have any symptoms of Covid19 (sore throat/new continuous cough/new runny nose/ear-ache/tiredness/temperature) you must have a PCR and self-isolate until you receive the result. Do not use a Lateral Flow Test if you have any symptoms!
  • You no longer need to confirm a positive lateral flow result with a follow up PCR. If you test positive on a LFT, you need to self-isolate immediately.
  • If you are double vaccinated, you can leave self-isolation after 5 full days if you complete 2 lateral flow tests - one on day five, and 24 hours later on day 6. Only if BOTH are negative can you leave isolation on day 6.
  • If you are not fully vaccinated you still need to isolate for 10 full days, leaving isolation on day 11.

I hope the above information and the flowchart proves useful in these strange times. As things change at short notice you can keep up to date with current guidance via

Steel Bones Walking Challenge

Dear Parents/Carers,

Throughout January, Meadow High School will be raising money for Steel Bones, a charity who support amputees. We would like to raise money for Steel Bones to commemorate a staff member’s amputation one year ago. On 25th January, students are asked to wear non-uniform clothes. The theme is heroes and people we look up to. We are asking for a voluntary donation of £1, which will be donated to Steel Bones.

Additionally, the whole school will be walking 365 miles across January as part of their class activities.

Students are invited to walk in their free time also. Tutors can be contacted to add any walking to our school record; let us know how many minutes of walking your child achieves, and we will add it to our total.

If you would like to donate, please make payment via ParentPay.

PLEASE MAKE ALL PAYMENTS VIA PARENTPAY.  IF YOU REQUIRE ACCOUNT DETAILS PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL OFFICE AND ASK FOR PETER.

If you are unable to use ParentPay, and would still like to make a cash donation then we will make sure all donations are passed to the Steel Bones charity.  Thank you.

Many thanks,

Mrs K Mayall
