Meadow High School
Weekly Bulletin

Issue 24 -  Friday 13 March 2026

Dear Parents and Carers

It was great to see so many of you at the two parent information evenings we held this week to begin the preparations for our move towards two sites from September.  It was great to engage with you and hear your thoughts on our proposals around curriculum, student grouping, the building itself, therapy and towards staff student relationships as we move forward together.  A reminder that our next step is to engage directly with parents whose child will be moving to Northwood Road from September.  If this applies to you and your family, you will receive a letter inviting you into a meeting with a member of the Senior Team.  If you do not receive this invitation, you can assume your child will be remaining at Royal Lane Campus from September.

Last week we received the latest national attendance figures for Special Education Settings.  Once again, Meadow High School is above the National Figure for these organisations.  Currently, our attendance sits at 90% with the National Figure for Special Schools being 86%.  This is a great achievement, but we need to continue to improve in this area, as all educational research shows that the nearer attendance is to 95% the better the student outcomes and next steps.  Please can you work with us to share the importance of excellent attendance at home and ensure your child arrives on time each day.  We are doing lots in school to promote great attendance, such as our Attendance Cup and also recognition and rewards for excellent or improved attendance.  We are keen to work alongside to keep improving in this area.

The period of Ramadan comes to an end soon and many families will be celebrating Eid.  Please remember that if you celebrate this event, your child is entitled to a day off school for religious observance.  If you intend to take this, please can you inform the school before the event as soon as the day is known.

I wish you all an enjoyable week ahead.

Mr G Cunningham
Headteacher

Attendance - Winners !

Our Attendance Competition between classes has commenced, in which the class with the highest fortnightly attendance is awarded with the Attendance Trophy.

This week the award was awarded within Pathway 1 and the results are:

{item_alt_tag}

Joint 1st Place: Class EC with 100% and Class SM with 100%  - Well done for having perfect attendance!! This is an amazing achievement.

2nd place: Class IM with 99.1%

3rd place: Class GW with 98%

Well done to classes EC and SM and all of our pupils who are doing their best to be in school every day!

If your child is suffering from sickness or other NHS-advised illnesses, we support their need to stay at home and recover. Please refer to https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/ if in doubt, and rest assured that our Welfare Team will assess your child and contact you if we consider them too unwell to be in school.

Being around teachers and friends in a school environment is the best way for pupils to learn and reach their potential. Time in school also keeps children safe and provides access to extra-curricular opportunities and pastoral care. Every moment in school counts. For example, a child who is absent for three days over half a term could miss 18 hours of learning. The higher a pupil’s attendance, the more they are likely to learn and build their social skills, ready for a more successful future.

It’s important that we work together as a community to support the attendance of all our pupils and we continue to welcome your communication if there is anything you would like to discuss regarding this. In the first instance, please speak to your child’s Form Tutor or contact Miss Kelliher: attendance@meadowhighschool.org

World Book Week
Stories in the Library

Last week our staff and students had a lovely time reading and listening to stories during book week. Including a story that Mr Rainsbury had written. This has also inspired our students to read to their peers during break and lunch times.

HS2 Visit

Students have worked hard throughout the term as part of their Vocational Pathway studies at HS2. Today they had the opportunity to go on site and learn bricklaying skills.  All students took part enthusiastically and impressed the HS2 staff with their efforts. Well done to everyone.
