Dear Parents and Carers
A long and busy term draws to an end and this week has been very Christmas focussed. After enjoying the Christmas Bazaar and Santa’s Grotto on Christmas Jumper Day last week, this week was all about Meadow students showcasing their talents.
On Monday we held the annual Meadow’s Got Talent event. After a series of auditions the 10 finalists performed in the Main Hall to a live audience whilst all classes watched via a live stream. The final saw dancing, acting, storytelling and the standard was incredibly high. Congratulations to all the finalists and an extra well done to the overall winner.

1st place - The Sailors - Class RS
2nd place - The Unstoppable Duo George 6MS & Stanley 6AP

Also, this week we held our rewards assemblies. These recognise achievements and improvements in many areas, such as attendance and community service, but also achievement in every subject area. It was great to be able to acknowledge the successes of so many students for so many different things. Well done to all award winners.
On a personal note, this has been a thoroughly enjoyable and interesting first term at Meadow High School for me. All the students, staff and parents have made me feel very welcome and have helped me to settle in quickly and really get to know the school. Despite having lots still to get to grips with and to really understand, we have focused on getting the basics such as attendance, behaviour for learning and teaching in the classroom spot on. We have also taken time to review our Mission, Vision and Values and to get a sense of where we want to be as a community over the next few exciting years. Whatever else we do, we must not lose sight of the core purpose of our role: to focus on learning and preparing the students for an ever-changing world.
I look forward to continuing to work with you after Christmas, but for now I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and I sincerely hope you get to enjoy the festive break with your family and friends. I will see you all when school returns on 5th January 2026.

Bronze HEART Award
On Monday 15th December, the Virtual School came to visit Meadow to accredit us with our Bronze Hillingdon Empathy Attachment, Relationships and Trauma Responsiveness (HEART) Award.
They were impressed with our warm and nurturing learning environment, especially our sensory spaces, our library and all the interventions offered to our young people.
In addition, a special mention to Jo, Josh and Sam, who represented the school amazingly and spoke so eloquently about their experiences at Meadow.
I am very proud to say we are the only school in the borough with this award and it really is a testament to how our staff work with and support our young people to help them regulate their behaviour and emotions, build key adult relationships and feel safe and secure at school.
Have a wonderful Christmas break and New Year.
Miss Barratt
Inclusion Lead and Designated Teacher for Cared-For Children.

Our Library
- Celebrating the Festive Season!
We have been fully embracing the spirit of the season in our library over the last month. Mrs. Kennedy and our Reading Champions have been busy decorating the library, sorting out all our favourite seasonal reads and we have even been visited by Elf on the Shelf who has had a great time. The lunch and break time club has been packed with students building confidence and social communication skills by playing a range of traditional games - learning to win or lose with a smile... Well, we're getting there with that one! Mrs. Kennedy has also been using the special Librarian's Network to communicate with Father Christmas and made sure all the letters from our students dropped into the box were answered. Finally, last Friday our Reading Champions were rewarded for all their hard work this term by spending time together enjoying a film, hot chocolate and some tasty snacks.

Elf on the Library Shelf
Each day Buddy the Elf arrives in the library with a new story and characters for our students to enjoy. So far we have had:
- The Gingerbread Man, 3 Little Pigs, The Wizard of OZ,
Jack and the Beanstalk, Thomas The Tank Engine,
Cinderella, Snapper.
The students really enjoyed visiting each day to see what Buddy had brought them.

Feeling a bit sad at the thought of the library without its festive colours?
Don't worry, we have a plan! In January we will be picking up on the positive energy of the New Year. There will be a box ready to collect all our wishes for 2026 for ourselves, our loved ones and the world beyond school. We will be sharing these as part of a big display to help us focus on the possibilities of the year ahead. We will be asking our Reading Champions for their help once more, decorating the library with the theme of the Chinese New Year - 2026 is the year of the horse, not just any year of the horse, but the Fire Horse. So, lots to look forward to, see you all in January.
Mrs. Kennedy & Mrs. Sugden

Extended Learning: Engaging with a range of stories provides lots of learning opportunities. Please remember that we have our own youtube channel where you’ll find a wide of stories to enjoy. Listening to stories can help boost reading and language skills;
- spark your imagination and stimulate curiosity
- help your brain, social skills and communication skills develop
- help learn new words as you read. Subconsciously, you will absorb information on how to structure sentences and how to use words and other language features effectively
- help with develop understanding of how to read, modelling pacing, proper intonation (using voice for expression) and correct pronunciation whilst immersing children in stories
- help develop comprehension skills – a crucial part of reading
- help inspire a love of books and reading – a life-long learning tool
We will be posting two new stories on Thursday 1st January. The stories this month are

Winnie the Witch is tired of winter. She's tired of shivering in the cold and looking out at her garden covered in snow. And Wilbur is tired of frozen fur and whiskers. So Winnie uses a little magic to bring summer and sunshine to her house. Does her plan work? Watch to find out . . .

Aesop’s Fables
– The Mouse & the Lion
Retold by Malorie Blackman
& read by Mrs. Sapiano
The award winning writer, Malorie Blackman, has retold some of Aesop’s timeless fables. This one is about a very scary lion and a brave little mouse. As all good stories begin, the book says, ‘once upon a time there was a man named Aesop who told stories full of wisdom...’
