Dear parents and carers
The final week of a busy half term has flown by and we are all now looking forward to a well earned break. This week has seen the continuation of examinations as well as workshops from HS2 and a trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum.
|
|
|
This week we have also conducted a Safeguarding Review. As a staff, our number one job is to ensure all students are safe at school and there is no harm in having external specialists come into school to support and challenge our practice. The extensive review focussed on documentation, recruitment, student and staff voice, as well as wandering the site during lessons and in unstructured time. The review highlighted clearly that there is a strong culture around safeguarding and that students feel safe and enjoy school. Importantly, they also know who they would talk to if they were upset or felt unsafe in school at any point. This is reassuring to hear and shows that the investment we put into developing relationships with all young people is paying dividends. As always, there are a couple of items to continue to work on, and we will continue to do so in the remainder of the summer term and the new academic year.
As you will know from my earlier letter, we have had a real focus this half-term on students wandering out of lessons and leaving classrooms. We will continue to do this over the remainder of the school year, but after the break we will be turning our attention to focus on students' use of poor language. Part of this approach will be linked to developing a student understanding of supposed ‘banter’, as student understanding of this and why it is not appropriate has resulted in a few incidents involving a minority of students. We will also be focussing on our language choices on social media platforms. Staff will be using the scripted approach we have used with students out of lessons with students who make poor language choices and I would appreciate parents reinforcing at home, the need to be polite and to use appropriate language at all times in school.
Finally, for this week, please remember to complete the survey about our proposed change to the school day, with an earlier finish on Wednesdays to support staff CPD across two sites. The link to the survey can be found below.

I wish all students and parents an enjoyable half-term break.

Ever worried about fitting in? Ever bought a top or shoes to be like your friends? Don’t worry, we’ve all done it, ask people at home if you don’t believe me.

Sixth Form Trip to the V&A Museum
On Tuesday students who are studying Health & Social Care and Hairdressing all visited The V & A Museum in London together.
It was an amazing opportunity for students to visit the Museum, students were able to consolidate their learning from both Hairdressing and Health and Social Care by exploring how beauty, wellbeing, and personal care have developed throughout history.
The visit encouraged students to make meaningful links between historical influences and modern professional practices, enhancing their subject knowledge while developing observation, communication, and reflective skills.

Pathway 1
Centre Parcs Residential
On Monday 11th May, Pathway 1 pupils from Key Stage 4 and 5 went on their annual residential trip to Center Parcs, Woburn Forest. This was a fantastic group of young people that for many was their first time away from home. As always, pupils worked hard on their independence and life skills. Upon arriving, groups went to Tesco with their budget and shopping lists, purchasing all the ingredients they needed to cook for the week.
Unsurprisingly, swimming was the favourite for many, as well as bowling, minigolf, rock climbing and archery.
Thank you staff and pupils for another amazing year at Center Parcs!

Year 14 - Home Management
This week, our Year 14 students took part in an engaging Home Management session focused on bike maintenance, with valuable support from Cherif, one of our occupational therapists.
Students learned key skills to help keep their bikes safe and roadworthy, including how to adjust a bike seat to the correct height for comfort and safety. They also explored the importance of maintaining the correct tyre pressure, practised inflating tyres to the recommended level, and discussed why keeping a bike clean and in good working order is essential for personal safety.
It was a practical and informative session that helped students build confidence and independence in maintaining their own bikes.
