Dear Parents and Carers
Another week done, and it was lovely to have all the students back from Devon after a wonderful week away. It has also been great to speak to the students who were successful at the Jack Petchey Awards on 23rd April.
This week we have been celebrating literacy and especially the 25th anniversary of the publication of the first Harry Potter Novel. It was wonderful to see so many staff and students dressed up as their favourite Harry Potter character or dressing up linked to the wider science fiction or fantasy genre. Staff also contributed to Wizard Themed Wanted Posters linked to the texts. A great day.

We have also continued to welcome our new September intake into school this week for a range of activities and on Thursday this week we welcomed the parents to a transition evening. Please see the talk I gave on the website with my latest video blog. It was wonderful to meet the parents and students, and we are excited about them joining us in the next academic year.

Finally, for this week a gentle reminder about parking in the area around the school. Bryony Close has a number of disabled bays along it. Please can parents only use the bays if they are in possession of a valid disabled badge. We have received a few concerns from residents about parents using these at pick-up and drop off when they are not permitted to do so. May I also remind you that you are not allowed to use the turning circle for dropping off or pick-up unless you have been given permission by the school to do so.
Thanks and have a great weekend.

As part of our celebrations for the National Year of Reading 2026, from Monday 27th April we have been running a Scholastic Book Fair in our Library!
The Scholastic Book Fair is a pop-up celebration of reading that puts the very best books directly into your child’s hands, all while raising rewards to spend on free books and essential resources for our school.
We have a fantastic selection of books this time - have a look at some of the books available to purchase below:

We hosted two parent coffee afternoons on Tuesday and Thursday this week, which gave parents and carers the opportunity to browse and buy from the book fair with their children, as well as have a cup of tea, a biscuit and a chat.
If you were unable to join us for one of the parent sessions this week, please contact our Librarian, Miss S Gaafar. If we get enough interest, we are happy to organise an extra coffee afternoon for parents and carers to visit next week.
Thank you as always for your ongoing support for our school Library!

Devon Residential Trip
Last week 32 pupils and staff attended the annual residential trip to Calvert Devon. The trip is the first time many of the pupils have stayed away from home for a prolonged period of time. The chance to make new friends, communicate and socialise with each other, face fears but, most importantly enjoying the great outdoors.
During the week, pupils participated in many different activities, which included climbing, abseiling, horse riding, archery, crate stacking and biking! These activities provided pupils with the chance to face and conquer different fears and all pupils made their own personal and memorable achievements on the trip.
Everyone who attended was a credit to Meadow High School, showing our school values:
Motivation:
All pupils tried new and sometimes difficult activities (e.g. outdoor challenges) and support others who may feel less confident.
Excellence:
All pupils pushed themselves to do their best in unfamiliar situations, showing high standards in behaviour, teamwork, and effort even when things are challenging.
Achievement:
Completing activities, overcoming fears, and developing independence gives students a strong sense of accomplishment beyond the classroom.
Dedication:
All pupils showed commitment by fully engaging in all aspects of the trip, persevering through challenges, and contributing positively to group life.
Opportunities:
All pupils developed themselves through given opportunities (e.g life skills and social skills)
Willingness:
All pupils demonstrated a positive attitude by being open to new experiences, trying unfamiliar activities, and stepping outside their comfort zones.
Information and letters will be coming out very soon for the Devon 2027 trip!

Year 11 Visit to Greencore
Year 11 students visited the Greencore food distribution centre on Wednesday, where they gained an insight into how the factory operates. They learned about the full production process, from preparing and making food items to packaging and distributing them to various supermarkets. The visit also introduced students to a range of job roles within the company.
All students were given the opportunity to take part in a hands-on activity, working on the factory line to make a small salad for themselves.
It was a valuable and enjoyable learning experience for all involved.

Pathway 1 - Performing Arts
SM, JE and KS classes had 2 visitors this week for performing arts.
Archie, who is in sixth form, and his father, Steve, are both involved in amateur theatre.
Archie helps make the set and props as well as acting, dancing and singing with ROS (Ruislip musical society). Steve has been stage manager for 2 local theatre groups, ROS and RDS (Ruislip Dramatic Society).
The students asked some interesting questions like, “Which show did you like best?” and “What does a stage manager do?” They listened carefully to the answers and learnt a lot about jobs in a theatre.
Thank you Archie and Steve.

Pathway 1 - Class IM Trip to the Park
On Friday, April 24th, Class IM went on a trip to the park.
On arrival at the park, all the pupils followed instructions exceptionally well, practised walking across a car park and crossing a road using a zebra crossing. They all enjoyed playing in the playground safely. Some needed more encouragement than others to try different playground equipment, and they were praised for their bravery. In the end, they all loved our picnic in nature. They had the opportunity to use their words to request what they wanted to drink or eat. It was great to see them communicating so well.
