Weekly Bulletin - Issue 23 - Friday 12 March 2021

Issue 23 - Friday 12 March 2021

Dear Families,

It has been wonderful to welcome back so many more pupils to school this week. Seeing the pupils playing and interacting around the school has shown just how much they have missed their friends and (hopefully!) the staff!

Covid

We have had no confirmed cases of Covid in our community since the last bulletin.

Covid secure

We continue to strive for a Covid secure environment. Along with the physical adaptations to the school we are encouraging and supporting pupils to:

  • hand wash and hand sanitise regularly;
  • maintain 2m distance from other pupils and where they cannot, to wear a face covering.

If your child is wearing a cloth / reusable face covering, please ensure that they have a clean one each day and have a zip lock bag to place the mask in when not being worn.

Exams

As you know, most externally accredited exams (eg GCSE's) will not be undertaken this summer term.   Our Faculty Leaders have plans in place to gather the information required by exam boards so that pupils who are entered for these courses can attain the results they deserve.  We have recently purchased additional transparent screens so that pupils requiring readers can sit alongside the supporting adult. Adults will wear masks in these circumstances but pupils will not be expected to do so.  Please note that the Government is requiring  Functional Skills (Maths and English) exams to go ahead as normal, and we will be ensuring these exams happen in school with full social distancing and safety in place.

Lateral flow testing

Pupils for whom we have permission have had two lateral flow tests this week, and will have a third next week.  For families who have then opted to continue testing at home, kits will be provided.

If you have not yet given permission for your child to be tested, but are willing for this to take place, please complete and return the permission letter below (which has been shared by email). You can also request a paper copy should you wish.

The rapid testing will help to identify if your child has Covid, but is not showing symptoms.  If they were to be identified as being positive for Covid, it will be easier to stop the spread of the virus to your family, other pupils and staff at the school.

Assembly

Assembly has moved back to it's normal time of 2.15pm on a Wednesday.  If your child is isolating or shielding and you have not received an invitation to assembly please email ksanderson@meadowhighschool.org

This week's assembly not only celebrated the return to school, but also focused on International Women's Day, Shivaratri and British Science Week. Please find below some useful websites that show fun science experiments that you can complete at home.

Bicycle - Did you leave one in school ?

We still have a bike that a pupil left at school last year after their Bikeability training. If you think this is your child's bike please contact the school.  If the bike is not claimed by the end of March we will be donating it to a local charity.

Red Nose Day
Friday 19 March 2021

This year for Comic Relief, students will be taking part in free tutor-based activities. There will be a non-uniform day on Friday 19th March, where students can wear their own clothes or something red for a voluntary £1 donation.

We will hold a fun virtual assembly and there will also be a cake sale and a raffle. Cakes will be 50p each and raffle tickets are 5 for £1 or 25p each. Thanks as always, for your support.

A letter has been sent home today (copy in letters home section).

SCHOOL LUNCHES

For those pupils currently attending school, lunches will follow the Autumn Winter menu as far as possible.  However, it may be necessary to make some changes to the menu during lock-down, due to supply issues and number of pupils having lunch.

Week  - 15 March 2021 - 19 March 2021

Week 2 - Autumn / Winter Menu

E-Safety

HOLLIE Guard App

As we start to come out of lockdown measures, people will be moving around more.  For anyone with a mobile phone device you can download the HOLLIE Guard APP for them.

If they are walking home late or alone, they can switch on the HOLLIE Guard APP, and families can monitor their journey.

If your young person feels threatened, lost or unsafe they can shake their phone, which will set off a high pitched alarm from the phone and also message anyone set up to receive alert's as a guardian.

This is not just suggested for pupils but for anyone who may find this app useful.

For further information please see the website https://hollieguard.com/ or in your App store.

News & Events In The Community

Hillingdon PCF is delighted to offer forum members that are resident in Hillingdon borough, an invitation to join the next free online evening webinar in the series, on the topic of:

The Annual Review of the EHCP.  - Tuesday 23rd March 2021, 7-9pm

This is a webinar for all parents/carers, whether you are applying for an EHCP or you already have one.  It will take you through the Annual Review process, how to prepare and what to expect at and after the review. Many parents find this process frustrating, but this session will help you better advocate for your child. There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the webinar.

Tanya Williams is delivering the presentation and is a parent of 2 young people with SEN, who understands the importance of parent empowerment and this is why she began running workshops, advice clinics and webinars for support groups and other PCFs. After over 20 years working as a litigator, Tanya set up her own business advising families across the UK. Here is Tanya's website: Home | Tanya Williams SEN Advice

Some feedback from previous audiences:

" Real in depth understanding of annual reviews. It helped me to understand how to prepare for my next annual review.. Thought I knew the overall process- but now more confident"

" Clarity of information. Real world experience of what works, actual clauses useful to cite and the range and format of evidence that can be brought to an Annual Review"

"Tanya's talks are always full of very practical, detailed information on what parents can do to get the best support they can for their child. She has so much experience of helping parents with EHCPs, Annual Reviews, Tribunals etc and her real life examples really help to make everything clear. Highly recommended." ( Chair of  large support group)

"The best Annual Review my son ever had. Tanya was knowledgeable, patient and professional in her service. Very invaluable support offered"
