Meadow High School
Weekly Bulletin

Issue 3 - Friday 25 September 2026

Dear Parents and Carers

The term is now in full swing with lots going on. Students have settled in well to their new classes and forms.  This week it was great to see students represent the school in an Under 16 football tournament and also we welcomed a ballet company into school.  Many students saw this event live and it was streamed into all other classes.

Representing the school and engaging in cultural showcases are linked closely to our values of OPPORTUNITY and taking advantage of them ACHIEVING and EXCELLENCE in showcasing and developing our individual gifts and talents.

This week was also Thank a Teaching Assistant Day.  As a community, we are proud of the work these invaluable staff do with students to develop positive relationships and to impact on their learning and life when they leave school.  I know from my own teaching experience how grateful I am to them for the work they do in my classroom with the groups I teach.

This week Meadow High School also hosted an event run by the Local Authority for all Primary and Secondary Headteachers talking about the National SEND reforms and how they will be implemented in Hillingdon. We are proud to have been asked to host this prestigious event, and it shows how the reputation and standing of our school is growing in the area based on the great work we are doing.

Now that we are three weeks into school, please can I remind parents of some of the basics we are focussing on with students.
  • We are now a device-free school, and we have been working hard with students on ensuring phones are handed in each day.  If a student is seen with a phone on site during the day, it will be confiscated, and you will be contacted at home.
  • Hoodies are not permitted in school and these too will be confiscated if worn on site.
  • As part of our drive around attendance we have launched a new initiative this week. All students will be issued a personal attendance target, and they will be rewarded if it is met over the duration of the event.  The personal target is focussed on improving personal attendance based on historic attendance figures.  We aim for all students to improve towards 95% attendance so I would urge parents to ask their child what their target is.  Class Teams will also phone home to talk to parents about their child’s progress towards their target.
I wish you all an enjoyable weekend.

Mr G Cunningham
Headteacher

Co-opted Governor Vacancies

Meadow High School is seeking two dynamic and experienced Co-opted Governors to help shape the school’s strategic direction and ensure the best outcomes for our pupils in terms of achievement, care and wellbeing.

Governors play a key role in:

  • Setting the school’s vision, ethos and strategic priorities.
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for educational performance and staff management.
  • Ensuring public funds are used effectively to support school improvement.
  • Ensuring the views of pupils, parents, staff and the wider community are heard.

We are looking for people who are committed, curious, collaborative and willing to ask challenging questions to help the school continually improve.

What is a Co-opted Governor?
Co-opted Governors are appointed by the governing body because of their skills, experience or knowledge, and do not need to be a parent of a pupil at the school.

How is this different from a Parent Governor?
Parent Governors are elected by parents and carers of pupils at the school and bring the parent perspective to the governing body. Co-opted Governors are selected for the particular skills and experience they can contribute to the school’s strategic leadership.

We welcome applications from anyone who is interested in helping Meadow High School be the best it can be.

Phase Transfer Coffee Morning

A Phase Transfer Coffee Morning was recently held at school for parents and carers of students in Years 11–14.

During the session, representatives from the Local Authority’s EHCP team provided parents with valuable information and guidance about the phase transfer process. Key areas covered included the college consultation process, important timelines and deadlines, travel assistance, and other practical information to support families as they prepare for their young person’s next stage of education.

Parents also had the opportunity to speak directly with the EHCP representatives, ask questions, and seek clarification on individual concerns.

We would like to thank the Local Authority representatives for sharing their knowledge and expertise, and all the parents and carers who attended and engaged positively in the session.

Kind regards,
On behalf of Careers team

Year 14 Vocational Pathways

Our Year 14 group began their Vocational Pathways activities last week at the Iver Environmental Centre.

The students worked hard throughout the day, helping to tidy the outdoor areas and weed the plants. They all worked extremely well as a team and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Well done!
