Extended Learning: Engaging with a range of stories provides lots of learning opportunities. Please remember that we have our own YouTube channel where you’ll find a wide of stories to enjoy. Listening to stories can help boost reading and language skills;
- spark your imagination and stimulate curiosity
- help your brain, social skills and communication skills develop
- help learn new words as you read. Subconsciously, you will absorb information on how to structure sentences and how to use words and other language features effectively
- help with develop understanding of how to read, modelling pacing, proper intonation (using voice for expression) and correct pronunciation whilst immersing children in stories
- help develop comprehension skills – a crucial part of reading
- help inspire a love of books and reading – a life-long learning tool
We will be posting two new stories on Wednesday 1st January. The stories this month are:

On My Papa’s Shoulders
by Niki Daly
read by Miss Gafaar.
Whether it's jumping in puddles in the rain, greeting the neighbourhood cat on the quiet back streets, or holding hands with Mama while rushing to make the bell, walking to school with family is the best. But nothing is better than walking to school with Papa.

A Children’s Imagination
written & read by Jordan Lyall
Not only is Jordan an important member of our Site Team but he is an author too! If you enjoy the story, come and find the book in our library!
Eight-year-old Jake’s rainy afternoon becomes anything but ordinary as his imagination transforms the mundane view from his window into a world of knights, battles, and hidden treasures.

Oracy Workshop Talk About the Future [Year 11s]
Talk The Talk work with the Jack Petchey Foundation. Their mission is to help students develop confident and fluent skills expressing their ideas and talking to others in a range of different situations. Our trainer, Ashley, worked with our Year 11s to reflect on identifying skills they have gained, practising how to present themselves and talk about those in an interview.
Our students were absolutely amazing and we were so proud of the way they moved outside their comfort zone to try this new experience. Watching their self-belief and confidence grow was just wonderful. Ashley really enjoyed his visit and is hoping to be back in the New Year to work with our 6th Formers.

The Meadow Magazine
– Our New School Magazine!
|
|
One of the Friday afternoon enrichment options this term was ‘school publication’. Chloe, Aryan and Luqman (Year 9) and Colby and Raymond (Year 10) quickly became an amazing team, working hard to research, interview and write articles they thought students at school would enjoy.
We hope that you have fun downloading our first ever issue of the magazine. We would appreciate your feedback and ideas. You can contact us at SchoolMagazine@meadowhighschool.org. The next issue will be in the Spring term.
|
|
The Meadow Magazine is available to download here
|
|
Thank you to Mr Anstee & Mrs Fabisch for their time, Mrs Norris for help with sharing our magazine and Faith Sugden for formatting the magazine and designing the front cover. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Booster Cushion Theatre visit to perform A Christmas Carol [Year 7s]
|
|
This half term, our Year 7s have been studying the classic story about the original grouchy Grinch – Ebenezer Scrooge. Last week Philip, from Booster Cushion Theatre, came to perform Charles Dickens’ seasonal story with the help of our fabulous students.
Philip’s visits are a regular part of our curriculum, and he enjoys his visits as much as we do!
