Issue 30 - Friday 12 May 2023

Dear Families

Build Update

As we will be becoming a split site, but both are part of Meadow High School, we have started referring to them as Royal Lane (where we are currently situated) and Northwood Road (our new satellite, which will be based in Harefield).

After some delays, planning permission has been granted for both projects. Planning work on the 'nitty-gritty' of both buildings is under way with two different build and school teams.

At Royal Lane there will be some pre-work done over May half-term, which will allow six temporary classrooms to be installed as soon as we finish school in July. The area where the build will take place will be hoarded off from July 23 to July 24 to allow the demolition of the remaining temporary buildings and the construction of our new block. We are just awaiting the final drawings, then I will share these with you. We hope to move into this block in September 2024.

At Northwood Road the soft strip of the old boarding block has taken place, but no further work has yet been undertaken on the conversion and new build. We are still being given an occupation date of Sept 2024 at this point.

We hope to be able to accommodate all the packing, moving and unpacking without needing to have any additional school closures. There will be days where groups of pupils are off timetable undertaking enrichment activities to allow staff time to pack and make ready the new rooms. We will notify you nearer the time if this affects your child.

Look out for further updates in the coming months!

Very best wishes for a lovely weekend.

Kind regards,

Mrs Rigby
Headteacher

Promoting Literacy:

Star Wars Day

Celebrating our love of Science-Fiction!

May the 4th was on a ‘school day’ this year, it was also the 60th Anniversary of Doctor Who, so we decided to celebrate the amazing genre of science fiction.  Students enjoyed exploring sci-fi books (facts and fiction) and watching a screening of the Star Wars film that inspired a generation to start imitating the buzz of a light-saber and gave us so many great characters and memorable quotes – ‘These are not the droids you’re looking for’ never quite worked with our teachers, but I think most of us still hold out hope it will some day!

Jedis, Time Lords and a wide range of sci-fi fan favourites filled the corridors and classrooms; good versus the really quite naughty met at breaktime and we all had a lot of fun!

News & Events in the Community

Interested in Fostering for Hillingdon Council?

If you're interested in becoming a foster carer - or know someone who is - Foster Care Fortnight, from 15th to 28th May, is the perfect chance to find out more about it.

Foster Care Fortnight is a national campaign which raises awareness and understanding about fostering and the positive influence it can have on young people's lives. The campaign hopes to build support for fostering, challenge stigma surrounding children in foster care and encourage more people to come forward to foster.

Hillingdon council's fostering team is looking for people who can provide different types of fostering and is encouraging people to consider fostering or raise awareness among family and friends. You can foster short-term or offer a child Respite on weekends or during school breaks.

People from all backgrounds can foster, the minimum age is 25, and a spare bedroom is needed for any child fostered over the age of 2. We support and guide you in the fostering role and you receive a generous allowance, among other benefits.

Want to find out more?

We are holding an information session at the Civic Centre on:

  • 16th May 2023, from 5-6 pm

There is no need to book, just come to the Civic Centre Main Reception (High Street, Uxbridge) and you will be shown to the meeting room.  We will present a short program and a foster carer will be in attendance who can answer any questions you may have.

We are also holding 'drop-in' sessions just outside Waitrose in Ruislip on:

  • Friday 19th May and
  • Friday 26th May from 9am to 5pm. Stop by and talk to our team members on the day.

We would be grateful if you could please include this item in your e-communication with parents/ carers or via any other means you feel appropriate, and kindly share with staff.

If you think you could foster, please call the Fostering team on 0800 783 1298,  Email   fosteringrecruitment@hillingdon.gov.uk or visit  www.hillingdon.gov.uk/fostering

** We would also be interested in hearing about any summer fairs where we can set up a stand at your school or venue. Please contact Sladjana on 07508908103 if you can offer us space **
