What Is Intervention ?

Interventions are carefully planned sessions that are adapted to suit the needs and abilities of all pupils at Meadow. They are there to provide additional and personalised support for students. A pupil may have an individual, paired or group intervention session if they are LAC or PLAC, have additional challenges including behaviours, are struggling with their mental health and emotional well-being or if they are developing an area of understanding such as their social or life skills.  Across Meadow our Focus is on developing Independent life skills including transferable employment skills.

Interventions take place with Miss Barham. Some students have interventions in 6 week blocks, others have intervention sessions weekly. Interventions work in partnership with the form tutor and utilise all of the amazing facilities we have here at Meadow such as the cooking room, charity shop and hairdressing salon.

Some examples of interventions include:-

  • Additional support to achieve academic success and develop skills including literacy and numeracy.

  • Life skills such as cooking, hair washing, shopping skills or travel training.

  • Arts and crafts such as lego building projects or making slime.

  • Therapy sessions including using Karen Triesman books and activities.

  • Pets as therapy and animal care with the school rabbit Bertie.

The intervention room is open to the whole school at breaks and lunchtimes. Students can drop in for a chat or participate in whole school initiatives such as breakfast/lunch club. During the school year we have lots going on that everyone can join in and be a part of including the Halloween cake sale, Christmas Grotto, chick hatching programme and the petting farm.
