ELSA- Emotional Literacy Support Assistants

At Meadow, we are very lucky to have six trained Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA). ELSA help students with lots of key skills, including processing and understanding emotions, communication, feelings, friendships, social skills and thinking skills.

Our ELSA team will run groups for students throughout the year with different focuses. These groups will work on areas of student’s Personlised Learning Intention Map (PLIM) and  outcomes from their Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Some groups that can be run by ELSA include-

  • building confidence and self-esteem
  • managing feelings and emotions
  • coping with transition and change
  • developing communication and independence
  • building friendships and creating a circle of friends
  • coping with worries, anxiety and stress
  • personal hygiene and healthy lifestyles.
