    • Year 10 - Visit to Brompton Bicycle Factory

      Published 25/06/24

Last week, 10LC visited Brompton bicycle factory in Greenford as part of the employer encounter benchmark (GB6). Students had a great opportunity to meet Brompton staff and tour the factory. All students actively participated in a team-building activity led by Brompton volunteers. During the tour, students were fascinated to see the whole bicycle manufacturing process, the variety of job roles and how each staff is skilled to do their job.

Students were given a demonstration on how to fold the bicycles correctly and were given the opportunity to experience these bicycles by folding and riding them. All students showed a great level of interest during this visit by asking so many relevant questions and sharing their own experiences with the Brompton staff. Many thanks to MHS staff who supported this trip, Brompton management and volunteers, Inspiring the future and EDT to make this visit enjoyable, educational and memorable!

    • Year 11 Visit to Greenford Mail Centre

      Published 21/06/24

Year 11 classes visited Greenford Mail Centre as part of a career visit to local employer.  During the visit, students and staff tour the site (production floor and warehouse) and saw various sorting machines on production floor such as parcel, letters and large letter.

Students had opportunity to meet with people working in different areas (such as engineer, machine operators, a driver and parcel sorter) who explained about their job roles and experiences. Students were keen to complete the fact sheet about Royal Mail during the tour of the site. Students were excited to see the Royal Mail lorry and enjoyed sitting in it.

Students posted a letter to themselves. We all enjoyed the lovely lunch and gifts provided by the Royal Mail staff. It was great to visit the mail centre. Many thanks to all staff at MHS and Royal Mail who supported this visit.

      Published 23/05/24

Some Sixth form students visited the Greencore company as part of their work experience with the local employer.

Students had a great opportunity to tour the site and understand the process of food packing. Students were able to see the different machines such as cheese slicer/grater, food chopper, food mixer in the food preparation area, where goods come in and are dispatched from, work-in-progress chillers, how goods are sanitised and the massive dish cleaning area.

Students and staff were absolutely thrilled to see and experience the production line of food packing. Students worked on the production line to pack the raspberry and peach bircher pot.  Greencore staff were very welcoming and friendly to our students.

Students were very delighted to accept small gifts of a water bottle, pen and yogurt pots from Greencore.

We enjoyed a lovely trip to Centre Parcs last Monday 13th May until Friday 17th May.

We had a great time and did lots of activities, including archery, swimming, laser tag, a Bird of Prey experience, Segway and we walked lots! The trip was an opportunity for our young people to develop their independence, life skills and, for many, it was their first ever time away from home. As part of our activities, we were fortunate enough to celebrate two birthdays.

The activities give all the young people a chance to try something new with their friends and delight in cheering each other on!

We then went shopping to get our food for the lodges and once we was back our lodges were ready and we unpacked all of our stuff. I shared a lodge with Miss McKinley, Miss Evans, Vinaay, Kofi and Isiah. The first night we had pizza and chips for dinner. We had yummy dinners such as sausage and mash and chicken and rice. I really enjoyed pancakes and syrup for breakfast, they made me HYPER!

We did many activities at centre parcs such as laser tag, swimming, golf, bowling, and went on the Segway’s and we learnt about owls and was able to hold one on our arm. My favourite activities was bowling and swimming because they were fun activities, especially swimming as we got to go on the water slides, the lazy river and went into the wave pool.

We also celebrated two birthdays at centre parcs. Alicia’s birthday was on Monday and Adam’s birthday was on Thursday. On Adam’s birthday we played squash."
