Dear Parents and Carers
December is upon us and the Christmas Season has descended on Meadow High School. It has been great to see the students decorating their classroom doors for the grotto competition and I will shortly be judging the Christmas Card decoration and announcing the winners. We also have trips, Christmas lunch and Meadow’s got Talent to look forward to.

This week I had the pleasure of supporting students in Religious Studies lessons. On Monday, I visited the mosque that neighbours our school and on Tuesday I took part in a lesson about wedding ceremonies from around the world by sharing some details about my wedding 25 years ago. It is great to see first hand the tremendous experience our young people get in and out of the classroom.

It was also great to meet many parents in the library during the book fair. This important event enables parents to come into the school and engage with their children around literacy and reading, as well as to choose books to read, the proceeds of which go to Meadow so we can replenish our stocks. Thanks to those of you who came in and supported this event.
I also wrote to you last week requesting feedback on our revised Mission, Vision and Values statements that we have been working on. Thanks to those of you who have contributed and please can I encourage you to reply by email if you wish to comment. These statements are crucial to our work building One School, Two Sites from September 2026.
I am also pleased to report that, despite this being the season of colds and flu, our attendance is still above 91%. This is above the national figure for special schools and 3% above where Meadow was last year at this point. Please can I encourage you to send your child in as often as possible. A sniffle or slight cold is not a reason to be absent as every day in school is crucial. To reiterate the point, I would like to share the figures below with you. I have shared these with staff and students this week to highlight the need for excellent attendance.
- 90%attendance means a student missing 19 days of school per year
- 85% attendance means a student missing missing 29 days per year
- 80% attendance means a student misusing 38 days of school per year
Excellent attendance is everyone’s job as it ensures success at school and builds good habits and resilience that are important when students leave education. Please talk to your children about this at home.
Finally, for this week, with the weather turning colder, please can I remind parents of the need to send students into school with an outdoor coat and not hoodies. Hoodies are not part of our dress code and will be confiscated if worn in and around school at any point. I thank you in advance for your support of this.
I wish you all an enjoyable week ahead.
Mr G Cunningham
Headteacher

Christmas Bazaar - Whole Day Event
|
|
|
We are delighted to announce that we will be holding a whole-day Christmas Bazaar on Friday 12th December 2025.
All students will have the opportunity to attend the bazaar, meet Santa, and have their photo taken in our Christmas sleigh. There will also be a variety of stalls where students can purchase items such as a toy tombola, “name the teddy,” sweets in a jar, hot chocolates, cakes and cookies.
The bazaar will take place in our Sports Hall, and a Christmas movie will be shown in the Main Hall throughout the day.
All money raised from the event will be shared between Friends of Meadow and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Thank you very much for your continued help and support.
Yours sincerely,
Team Leaders & Support Co-ordinators

Health & Social Care Students
Visit to DASH
Health & Social Care students visited DASH this week. During our visit, the students supported adults with learning disabilities to access an activity as part of the "working with others" unit. We are very proud of their hard work.
We also enjoyed making the most of the Christmas photo opportunities.
Please see attached the DASH Timetable. Adults with learning disabilities can access the facilities for a small amount and it is open to our year 14 students during the school holidays.
