Issue 11 - Friday 21 November 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

An amazing week at Meadow last week that demonstrated all the strengths of our school.

Monday saw our Peer Review where a team of Special School Leaders spent the day with us reviewing our curriculum, standards of teaching, behaviour and supporting our planning towards ‘One School, Two Sites’ from September 2026.  They gave us some amazing feedback about our school community as well as a couple of work ons.  I have outlined them all below.

Peer Review Positives:

  • Our curriculum is well adapted for learners.
  • Relationships, behaviour and expectations of all students are high.
  • The school is ambitious for all students to do well and succeed.
  • The School Council and student body have a strong voice in school improvement.
  • The school facilities are excellent, and our students do not want for anything

Even better if:

  • Students are stretched and challenged in all lessons, both in terms of how they learn, the activities they undertake and the outcomes they are working towards.
  • When we mark students' work, we need to provide them with tips on how to improve.

This feedback will be central to our plans for next September.

The Lion King

On Wednesday, I was fortunate to join 25 students from Pathway 1 & 2 on a trip to The Lyceum Theatre to see a performance of the Lion King.  The students were truly engaged in this great show and demonstrated their independence and social and communication skills, interacting with other audience members, the theatre staff and, in some cases, the performers who emerged through the crowd.

Children In Need

On Friday, we also showed our community spirit and social awareness as we entered into fundraising for Children in Need.  The students and staff, dressed in pyjamas and produced cakes to sell in a bake sale.  As a result of our efforts, we raised £85 for this great cause.

Pupil Safety

Finally, for this week, please can I remind all parents that they are not to use the turning circle to drop students off before school and at pick up.  Every day we have to manoeuvre 3 coaches, 10 minibuses and numerous taxis around our site to ensure that over 300 students leave safely.  This week we have had two near-misses where staff or students have nearly been hit by parent vehicles ignoring staff advice not to enter the site during drop off and pick-up.  If there is a specific reason why your child needs to be dropped off in the turning circle, please contact either Miss Willis (Pathway 1) or Miss Taylor (Pathway 2) so an appropriate plan of support can be put into place and staff made aware.  I thank you in advance for your support in keeping our students safe.

Have a great week.

Headteacher

In Memory of a Former Meadow Pupil

Jake O'Brien

We received sad news just before half-term that one of our former pupils,
Jake O'Brien, had passed away, after a long battle with illness.

A number of Meadow staff, past and present, attended his funeral last week, which was a tribute and celebration of his life.   Over twenty ex-Meadow pupils also attended, a testimony to his popularity and great personality.

Jake's kindness, sense of fun and warm smile brightened the lives of all who met him, and he will be deeply missed by us all.

Vacancy for Parent Governor

November 2025

Can you help shape the future of our school?

We need parents of pupils registered at the school to make a difference in our school’s community by volunteering to become parent governors.  Currently we have one vacancy for a parent governor on the governing body.

Your voice as a parent is very important to our school and it is vital that the governing body has good representation by our parents among its membership.

Information about the role

Once elected or appointed for a term of four years, a parent governor takes on the role of a school governor, a public volunteer. All governors are equal, no category of governor is any more important or influential than any other. Parent governors exercise a strategic parental voice on the governing body.

I have included more details on the role of governors with this letter. Please read this as it is important to understand the role, expectations and commitment before applying.

We are seeking a parent who has a real willingness to help, who can listen carefully, read important documents, ask questions, attend training and be able to actively contribute at meetings. If you can spare approximately ten hours or more a month then please consider nominating yourself for this interesting voluntary role.  The governing body is particularly seeking applicants with experience in the Health, Human Resources and buildings/health & safety sector/background.

If you are interested in the above, please read the full Parent Governor Vacancy letter from Mr Cunningham below and other important information about becoming a parent governor.

REMEMBER: Scholastic Book Fair next week...

{item_alt_tag}

Want to encourage reading at home?  Still looking for Christmas gift ideas? We are here to help!

The Scholastic Book Fair pop-up book shop event is nearly here with the most recent book releases for children and young people.  The fabulous thing about this book fair is that when you buy books, our school receives free rewards that we use to buy more new resources for our students. These rewards are vital for our school because it allows us to continue developing our wonderful Library. Our Library is the heart of our school and supports all of our students to develop an understanding of themselves and a curiosity for the world around them.

We will be hosting two parent coffee afternoons on:

One session on Tuesday 25th November:

  • 1.45pm till 2.45pm

One session on Thursday 27th November:

  • 1.45pm till 2.45pm

These will give you the opportunity to visit the Fair with your child and choose some of the fantastic books that will be on offer. You can pay at our parent coffee afternoons via card, Google Pay or Apple Pay using a QR code we will provide at the fair that you can access on your mobile phone. Please ensure you bring a mobile device with a camera so you can access the payment portal on the day.

If you would like to collect your child and take them home when you finish, please remember to complete the slip on the letter we sent out so we can ensure they will be ready. Please note that there is no on-site parking - if there is a particular need, please contact your child’s form tutor.

If you are unable to attend but would like to support our school by purchasing books, please visit https://clubs.scholastic.co.uk/C-67234RGY to order online. For every £1 you spend, our school will earn 20p in Scholastic Rewards. Please place your order online by December 13th, 2025.

See you there!

Anti-bullying resources

As the nights draw in and young people spend more time indoors and on their phones, feelings of isolation can intensify. Increased screen time can also bring greater exposure to bullying and cyberbullying. With over half of young people experiencing bullying first hand, the need for trusted, accessible mental health support has never been more important. Kooth have a powerful anti-bullying film and shareable assets. These spark conversations, raise awareness, and help young people stand up to bullying.
