Dear Families,
For many people, the summer break is a lovely time. Trips, holidays, meeting family and friends and simply lounging around!
However, for others, we know that the change in routine, the different activities and structure of the day can be a point of anxiety and potential upset.
If you are concerned about any of this, please contact your child's Form Team, who can support you to create visuals and resources to make the transition to the break so much easier.
Please find below some tips to support your child to have a well-regulated summer break:
- Planning. Write a list of your concerns and make a plan to address each one.
- Calendar. Use a calendar or piece of paper to plan for the break. You might put 'big' events on the calendar straight away and then plan a week in advance for the day-to-day detail.
- Communication. Make your child aware of what's coming up for the next week and consider a daily chart to help them through the day.
- Routine. Keeping to a strict routine is essential for some children, whilst others are able to adapt to a slightly modified one.
- Sleep. Staying up all night and sleeping all day is not good for anyone's health and will make the transition back to school so much harder for your child. Whilst teenagers will want a lie-in, having an agreed time to get up each day is hugely beneficial.
- Hydration. Most of us don't drink enough fluids. Keeping well hydrated has many health benefits, including allowing us to regulate our emotions better.
- Exercise. Getting 'out and about' in the daylight with some gentle exercise not only helps your physical health. It also allows our brain to know the difference between day and night and has a positive impact on sleep.
- Diet. Eating a well-balanced diet at regular times not only balances our blood sugar and helps prevent 'highs' and 'lows'. It also helps structure our day.
- Online safety. In the absence of meeting up with their friends, many young people will use social media and online gaming to connect. Whilst this is a good way of maintaining contact, it is also extremely open to abuse by adults looking to engage with vulnerable young people in a negative way.
- Time limits. We suggest limiting screen time and getting your child to 'earn' half-hour increments of time up to around 2 hours a day maximum.
- Emergency. In an emergency, if your child is dangerously dysregulated, at risk of harm to themselves or others or causing serious damage, please call 999 for the Police, telling them your child's age, that they have a learning disability and attend Meadow High Special School.
I hope these tips are helpful and that you all have a very well-regulated summer break.

PARTIAL SCHOOL CLOSURE
SEPTEMBER
PATHWAY 2
YEAR 9,1O AND 11 (NEXT YEAR) ONLY
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are writing to inform you that we have received permission from the Local Authority to implement a partial school closure on Thursday 4th and Friday 5th September 2025. This is for students in Pathway 2 for Years 9, 10 and 11 only.
Students will then return to school from their summer break on Monday 8th September 2025. They will have one day class based with their new or current form tutor before resuming usual lessons.
This decision has been made to allow staff time to prepare and set up classrooms in our new replacement block, which will be finally ready to open after numerous delays. The additional time is essential to ensure that learning environments are appropriately set up, health and safety standards are met, and that our pupils return to a well-prepared and welcoming space.
We understand that any disruption to the school routine can have a significant impact, especially within a SEND setting, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Please be assured that this decision was not taken lightly, and our priority remains the wellbeing and quality of education for all our pupils.
We thank you for your ongoing support and understanding as we take this exciting next step in improving our school facilities.
Kind regards,
Michelle Taylor
Deputy Headteacher responsible for Pathway 2

Winner - June 2025
|
|
|
Zak was nominated by his peers to win our June Jack Petchey award for the following reasons:
- Always speaks his mind and does not ask for any awards.
- He can be very helpful and does not ask for praise.
- He always makes me laugh with his zestyness , works hard and tries to be a better friend to others.
We are proud. Well done Zak. We look forward to finding out what Zak buys for the school.

GiveAsYouLive
A Few Extra Clicks Can Really Help Us
If you haven't tried giveasyoulive.com to raise money for Friends of Meadow, why not give it a go?
It's a site where if you're buying something online anyway, then clicking through a link on GiveAsYouLive will earn a small percentage of the sale for Friends of Meadow. That will help us fund activities for our pupils. Trips, events, treats, the extras which can make learning more fun.
One of the most popular methods to raise funds is to use instore.giveasyoulive.com/groceries to buy a supermarket gift-card then scan that from your phone when you're paying at the checkout in the supermarket. We'll typically then receive about 1.5% of the value of what you've spent. Not a fortune on its own, but it can be if lots of us do it.
Yes, it's a few extra clicks but if you have the time to take a look and give it a go we'd really appreciate it!
Kind regards
Mr J Goodbody
