Leading Parent Partnership Award
I am delighted to share with you that we have been awarded the Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA). We identified our work and relationships with families as an area for development two years ago and have used the LPPA framework to guide us on our journey. Thank you to everyone who responded to the questionnaire and to those who took part in the evaluation day. Your input was invaluable.
|
|
The framework is broken into the following areas:
- Transition: Support parents as their children transition through or between schools.
- Participation:Include all groups of parents in supporting their children's learning and developing their own learning.
- Communication: Take steps to ensure that the school is a welcoming, communicative and friendly place for parents.
- Guidance: Provide clear and accessible guidance to help parents support their children's learning and development.
- Induction: Provide clear guidance on the responsibilities of parents, school and pupils, and share this information with parents as a key part of the induction process.
- Home-school links: Produce parent-friendly policies to establish effective home–school links.
We have already started looking at what more we can do in all of these areas and what further developments we can make.
Assembly
In this week's whole school assembly we explored how 'Words have power'.
I introduced the concept that if someone can't change something about themselves in 30 seconds or less, you shouldn't be mentioning it. Pupils gave examples of things they thought could be mentioned, e.g. shoelaces untied, something stuck to the clothing and things that shouldn't e.g. hair colour or texture, skin colour, body shape etc.
|
|
|
I used a tube of hand cream to represent words that shouldn't be said because they could offend or upset someone and squeezed out some hand cream each time I spoke. I then spoke about trying to take back the words, apologise and put the situation back whilst I was trying to put the hand cream back in the tube. Pupils recognised that you can't always put things back as they were and that you can't take back the harm that has been caused by words.
The takeaway messages from the assembly were My words have power, I will use them carefully and If a person can't change something in 30 seconds or less I shouldn't be mentioning it.
Allotment Working Party
Just a reminder that we would be very grateful if you could help us complete the last jobs on the school's allotment plots. See below for details.
We are still clearing the more traditional plot and will be having a working party of adult volunteers on Saturday 24th May between 10am and 3.30pm. We will provide drinks and light refreshments / snacks but would ask volunteers to provide their own sturdy footwear, gloves, protective clothing, hat, sunscreen etc. There is a toilet on site and seating / benches for people to take as many breaks as they need.
|
|
The list of jobs currently includes:
- complete the final ground clearance
- rotavate the ground
- assemble some storage sheds
- assemble a greenhouse
- build a grape vine frame
- assemble some very tall raised beds
- prepare an area for a polytunnel
- weeding and watering
- wheelbarrow loads of manure!
|
|
If you are physically fit and confident in using garden tools and equipment and are free for at least two hours that day, please contact the school, giving your name, contact number and the time you are available. I look forward to hearing from you and will be extremely grateful for your support in getting this project completed.
Very best wishes.

Wealdstone Family Football Event
On Monday 5th May 2025, some pupils and their families attended the Wealdstone v Halifax Town match. This was an important fixture for Wealdstone who, at the end of the game, managed to survive relegation!
We have created a strong link with Wealdstone and this was the third game Meadow and their families have attended and, so far, have claimed 300 free tickets!
Here is a picture of Tom who managed to join the celebrations at the end of the game and get a photo with goalscorer Kallum Cesay!
Keep a look out for more opportunities next season to attend more Wealdstone FC games.

Year 11 Visit to Greencore Food to go, Stockley
Some of the Year 11 students visited a food factory in Stockely as part of the World of Work and Work experience. During the visit, students attended a small presentation which focused on the company background, layout of the factory, some success stories of their staff, various job roles within the company, food hygiene and PPE. All students followed the company’s rules and regulations before entering the production floor. All the students walked through different food chillers to understand how ingredients are stored, cut, sanitised, mixed and prepared for the meals. After the tour, all students gained experience of working on the production line to pack protein pot – Spinach and Egg. This was a wonderful experience for our students and they absolutely loved it. All the students enjoyed the snack pot and a token gift “bag” from the Greencore Company.
Many thanks to MHS staff for supporting this trip and special thanks to the team at “Greencore Food to go” for welcoming our students and staff.
