Issue 29 - Friday 2 May 2025

Dear Families,

Over the past several months, some staff and pupil groups have been preparing our allotments in Harefield, and we now have one fully accessible plot with raised beds for pupils who cannot access more uneven ground.

But now we need YOU!

We are still clearing the more traditional plot and will be having a working party of adult volunteers on Saturday 24th May between 10am and 3.30pm. We will provide drinks and light refreshments / snacks but would ask volunteers to provide their own sturdy footwear, gloves, protective clothing, hat, sunscreen etc. There is a toilet on site and seating / benches for people to take as many breaks as they need.

The list of jobs currently includes:
  1. complete the final ground clearance
  2. rotavate the ground
  3. assemble some storage sheds
  4. assemble a greenhouse
  5. build a grape vine frame
  6. assemble some very tall raised beds
  7. prepare an area for a polytunnel
  8. weeding and watering
  9. wheelbarrow loads of manure!
If you are physically fit and confident in using garden tools and equipment and are free for at least two hours that day, please contact the school, giving your name, contact number and the time you are available.  I look forward to hearing from you and will be extremely grateful for your support in getting this project completed.

Kind regards,

Mrs J Rigby
Headteacher

Reminder

It's a bank holiday weekend.
School is closed on Monday 5th May !

Exams

Some pupils at Meadow will be sitting exams in the coming weeks.  Letters have been sent home to individual pupils taking exams with personal timetables.

There is some useful information on the school website about exams, including the exams timetable, guidance on preparation for exams, exam rules, and guidance on the use of AI.  Here is the link: Curriculum / Exams & Accreditation

We have also added lots of information about how to manage exam stress, including some breathing exercises provided by our OT Department.  Families with young people taking exams may find these useful.

All students will be reassured and supported through the exams by the dedicated team of Meadow High School staff.

If you have any concerns or worries about upcoming exams, please share them with your form teacher, subject teacher, teaching assistant or trusted adult so we can help.

This is another amazing book from Julia Donaldson, illustrated by the super-talented Axel Scheffler.

Year 11 World Experience
Visit to Greencore Food to Go, Stockley

Some of the Year 11 students visited a food factory in Stockely as part of the World of Work and Work experience. During the visit, students attended a small presentation which focused on the company background, layout of the factory, some success stories of their staff, various job roles within the company, food hygiene and PPE. All students followed the company’s rules and regulations before entering the production floor. All the students walked through different food chillers to understand how ingredients are stored, cut, sanitised, mixed and prepared for the meals. After the tour, all students gained experience of working on the production line to pack protein pot – Spinach and Egg. This was a wonderful experience for our students and they absolutely loved it. All the students enjoyed the snack pot and the token gifts “bag and a pen” from the Greencore Company.

Many thanks to MHS staff for supporting this trip and special thanks to the team at “Greencore Food to go” for welcoming our students and staff.
