Issue 12 - Friday 29 November 2024

Dear Families

This week we have come together three times as a community to celebrate, learn and connect.

Our assembly this week focused on climate change, specifically related to how this affects children's rights.

{item_alt_tag}

Adults have a responsibility to look after the planet as we are the custodians for the next and future generations.

{item_alt_tag}

Adults have a responsibility to ensure that ALL children can access clean water, enough nutritious food and a healthy environment - planet.

{item_alt_tag}

Children have the right to give their opinions freely on issues that affect them. Adults should listen and take children seriously.

We finished the assembly with the message, 'Know your rights'.

Tree

On Tuesday after school, we asked the staff to help put up and decorate our giant 30-foot Christmas tree in the main hall. With music and refreshments to bolster them, they came together to achieve this enormous task, and we were all rewarded for our efforts by the looks of delight on the pupils' faces.

Celebration of Achievement

Last night, we had our annual Celebration of Achievement Evening. Over 90 pupils, past and present, were invited to attend and have their achievements publicly acknowledged. As always, it was a lovely evening and an opportunity to reflect on what achievement is and what does that look like for different people.  Thank you to the families who attended and to ALL our families for the work you do, day after day, to support your child to grow, develop and to become the best version of themselves that they can.

Very best wishes for the weekend.

Headteacher

Next Week In School .........

Our very special

Christmas Scholastic Book Fair

will be running from

Tuesday 3rd December till Friday 6th December

in the Library!

{item_alt_tag}

The Scholastic Book Fair is a pop-up celebration of reading that puts the very best books directly into your child’s hands, all while raising rewards to spend on free books and essential resources for our school! For every sale made, Meadow High School will receive 50% in FREE rewards that we can use for even more resources for our students!

We will be hosting two parent coffee afternoons on:

One session on Tuesday 3rd December:
3.15pm till 4.15pm

Two sessions on Thursday 5th December:
1.40pm till 2.40pm
3.15pm till 4.15pm

These will give you the opportunity to visit the Fair with your child and choose some of the fantastic books that will be on offer - and just in time for Christmas! You can pay online at our parent coffee afternoons via card using our school’s unique QR code that will be displayed in the Library for the duration of the fair.

If you are not able to attend one of our parent coffee afternoons, you also have the option of purchasing a gift voucher for your child that they can use to cover the cost of the books they choose from the Fair. You can find the range of gift vouchers via the Scholastic website here: https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/gift-vouchers. Please note that if you purchase a gift voucher this must be printed and your child must bring it into school with them during the fair, otherwise they will not be able to buy any books. Please also note that any gift vouchers purchased will expire on Saturday 7th December, one day after the fair finishes.

If you would like to join us at one of the parent coffee afternoons, please fill out the reply slip attached in the letter sent home with your child, and return it to your child’s form tutor. If you have any questions, please contact our Librarian, Miss S Gaafar, on sgaafar@meadowhighschool.org.

We look forward to seeing you next week for some festive fun!
