Dear Parents and Carers
This weekend saw the commemorations of the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings. This event on June 6th 1944 saw the allied forces of Britain, USA and Canada begin the liberation of Europe from Nazi Germany. I am sure you would all echo the words of this veteran in acknowledging the sacrifice this generation of people made.

Back at Meadow it has been a busy week. On Wednesday we visited our new site at Northwood Road, and it was pleasing to see the pace at which the work is continuing. In the photos below you can now see the shape of some of the spaces and the overall shape and look of the building.

This amazing new facility will ensure that we are able to give all our students a world-class educational experience. It is crucial that we live up to our school strap line of ‘Learning for Life’ and that all students belong to our community,
believe in what we are trying to do and become somebody who shapes the future when they leave. A recent study highlights how challenging things are for young people aged 16 - 24 as over 1 million of them are currently not in education, employment or training. As a school, we have a moral obligation to challenge this and ensure our young people are well-placed when they leave us.
One factor that will help shape educational and life success is attendance at school. As a school, we aspire for all our students to have attendance of over 95% as there is a direct correlation between this figure and lifetime earning and educational success. Please can I remind all parents to ensure that their child is in school every day, on time and that as a school, we will not approve holidays during the school term.
This month is also Pride Month. As a school we will be reflecting on this important event and the values of the pride movement through our curriculum and assemblies. The themes this year are solidarity, resilience and vision. More information can be found through the charity Stonewall using the link below.
To end this edition, a couple of reminders to all parents. Firstly, a reminder that this half-term our behaviour focus will be on using appropriate language at all times. All staff will be challenging students who use unkind or rude language at school in the same way. Students have been reminded about this focus in assemblies and I wrote to all parents about this before half-term.
Secondly, a reminder that students who are taking GCSE examinations or Entry Level qualifications will be able to collect their results in school this year. On 20th August we will open the school between 10am and midday, so students can come into school and collect their results in person in the main hall. Staff will also be around to celebrate with students and to provide advice and support if needed.
I wish you all an enjoyable weekend.

No Pens Day - Wednesday 20 May
On Wednesday the 20 May, our school took part in No Pens Day, a nationwide event dedicated to developing speaking, listening and communication skills. Students put their pens away for the day and engaged in practical and fun activities in their lessons, where they explored other ways of communicating. This included talking, signing, the use of technology and so much more. A huge well done to all of our students and staff for embracing the day with great enthusiasm!
