Bubbles

Thank you so much for your ongoing support. We are continuing the current Bubbles until October half term, at which point we will resume our standard timetable. We are currently making some adjustments to the timetable to reduce movement about the site. We will still have zoned breaktime areas and lunch will continue to be eaten in tutor bases. Obviously, if there are any significant changes to the Government guidance, these plans might need to be amended.

Covid

I am happy to report that we have still not had any positive Covid tests for any member of our community. I will update you on this weekly, but should there be a confirmed case midweek you will be informed of this on the day. Please be aware that I will not be able to divulge any information that could identify the person, including the class or year group the person is part of.

Coffee mornings

We are not currently running our ASD support group coffee mornings, but we do intend to start these again later this term. We will share dates with you once these have been planned.

The Dyspraxia support group coffee mornings are already up and running. Please see details on the website or call the school reception for more details.

Build

Since last week lots of work has been completed. The build team now have their welfare units and offices on site, which includes a drying room for their wet clothes. I'm sure this will be well used!

The building site is now completely enclosed in hoarding on the school side and the last remaining section running along our external fence lines will be completed after the removal of some Leylandii trees.

The old tennis court area has had the tarmac topping removed and the team are now breaking up the concrete base.

Excitingly, Miss Caddell and I have our first visit to the site next Tuesday in our PPE, steel toe cap boots, trousers, high viz and hard hats! I will take photos of the work in progress and post these on the website.

Once the building is at a more developed stage, groups of pupils will be able to visit the site wearing visitor PPE as long as the pupil is wearing trousers.

Transport

A reminder that from Monday 5th October, transport will be leaving the site after 3.05pm (pre-Covid timings!). This means your child will be home or at their collection point later than they have been the last few weeks.

Safeguarding audit

I have commissioned an independent audit of our safeguarding arrangements and this is taking place next Monday. The team will be looking at every aspect of our school that relates to keeping pupils safe and then feeding back to us on their findings. They will flag up anything of significant concern on the day so that the school can act on this promptly and will follow up with a report that will allow the school to address areas for development.

Assemblies

We are continuing to hold virtual assemblies with pupils based in their tutor groups throughout this term. Thank you to the different class groups who have hosted the member of staff each week and participated in the assembly to make it more fun and interactive for everyone. Please be assured that this is being done safely and any pupil who does not wish to participate or be seen on screen is respected.

Winter is coming!

Please ensure that your child has a coat and appropriate footwear for the season. Also, a reminder to label EVERYTHING as we cannot reunite pupils with their belongings if they are not labelled.

Best wishes to you all for a safe and relaxing weekend.

Headteacher

Black History Month

This month we will be learning all about Black History Month in Britain.

Students are being encouraged to explore figures who have influenced the entertainment, sport and civil rights movements alongside other topics such as Windrush and tackling racism.

We are encouraging our pupils to explore historical events and challenge racism today.

If you are new to the school then you may  not have seen the Meadow High School Youtube Channel "Meadow High School Hello".    During lockdown, we used it to provide information updates, signed stories, challenges devised and demonstrated by the PE Department and lots more.  These are still available to view and more content will be added
as we progress through the school year.

Domestic Abuse

Domestic violence has unfortunately increased during COVID-19. In the current circumstances, you may not be in a situation where you can speak but you can still call 999.

1. Dial 999

2. Listen to the questions from the operator

3. Respond by coughing or tapping the handset

4. If prompted, press 55 – this lets the 999 operator know it’s a genuine emergency.

National Domestic Violence Helpline Tel: 0808 2000 247 Run in partnership between Women’s Aid & Refuge.

Galop Tel: 0800 999 5428 Emotional and practical support for LGBT people experiencing domestic violence. Email: help@galop.org.uk

Mankind Initiative Tel 01823 334244 Support for male victims of domestic abuse and domestic violence. www.mankind.org.uk

Domestic violence Home is not always a safe place. Schools closing could put some children at greater risk of abuse and neglect. If you are worried about a young person, the @NSPCC are here. Call 0808 800 5000 (8am-10pm Mon- Fri/9am-6pm weekends) or email help@nspcc.org.uk at any time.
