Weekly Bulletin - Issue 30 - Friday 8 May 2026

Meadow High School
Weekly Bulletin

Issue 30 -  Friday 8 May 2026

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been a short but busy week after the extended weekend.  I hope you all had an enjoyable time with friends and family and were able to enjoy the decent weather that we had in patches.

This week there have been a number of great events in school to benefit students' personal development.  Over the course of the four days, we had students represent the school at volleyball and football as well as refining their cutting skills with our chef in residence.  These events are crucial in developing students' life skills as well as their character and resilience, both of which are important features of our Five-Year Vision to empower students to leave school with Purpose and Choice over the rest of their lives.

I have also written to you this week to inform you in advance about changes to the end of this academic year and the start of the next one in order to facilitate our move to two sites from September.  A reminder that the summer term will end for students on Friday 17th July at 1pm and the Autumn Term will begin for students from Monday 7th September 2026.  This is to support packing up, moving classrooms and unpacking once we have decanted.

My letter also presented our new Mission, Vision and Values to you that we have been working on during the Autumn and Spring Term, as well as our new logo.  Students and the parents who attended my coffee mornings in the Autumn and Spring have provided valuable insight and contribution into these, and we have been sharing them with students in school.  We have also shared our new look uniform with our new parents at the new parents information evening held last week.

In my letter I have also asked for your opinions on a proposal to close early on Wednesdays from September in order to facilitate training for all our staff across two sites.  The reason for this is that to train as one staff group, colleagues will be required to move from one site to another.  If we finish at 3pm with students on buses and taxis not departing until 3.15pm, staff will be stuck in traffic moving between the two sites, but finishing at 2.30pm will alleviate this as there is less traffic on the roads.  I would emphasise that this is a consultation and nothing is decided, but your views are welcomed.  We are also consulting with Governors and the Local Authority as we are a maintained school as well as colleagues in the transport team.  To engage with the consultation, please complete the Google form that has been sent to you.

I wish you all an enjoyable weekend.

Mr G Cunningham
Headteacher

Year 11 Greencore Visit

A group of Year 11 students visited the Greencore food distribution centre on Wednesday as part of their World of Work programme. They were given a tour of the factory, which provided insight into the different job roles within the company. Students also had the opportunity to work on the factory line, making salads that they were able to take away.

Vocational Pathway
Work Experience

This term in Friday's Tuck Shop our Year 14s (Daniel, Lexi, Rocky & Ola) are working on their independence when completing a task.  The jobs list is a new addition this week, which allows pupils to be responsible for different tasks within the kitchen.  Our Year 14 pupils have done so well in identifying what tasks need to be done and when. Even being able to work as a team to complete tasks and swap around jobs if needed.

A huge Well done and thank you to our Year 14’s in the Tuck Shop.

The Inclusion Project

The Inclusion Project is a community based day service for young adults (18 year +) with learning difficulties.

We have a team of group leaders who pick up from home, 3 young people from a similar area. They then meet up with 2 or 3 other group leaders with their young people and they go off and do activities together.

The range of activities we do is huge! We’ve done over 300 different activities last year, from the normal things like, cinema, bowling, top golf, drama sessions, arts and crafts, to some really quite different things, walking with alpacas, visiting the seaside, Bubble planet, theatre trips, backstage tours.

The service, which is the care and the transport, is generally funded by the local authority via direct payments and the activity money ( usually £10-£15 a day) is funded by the families.

It gives the participants structure, routine, friendships and an active and healthy selection of things to do.

For the parents, they are confident their young person is safe, happy and with like minded people,  with group leaders who genuinely care about them and support them to have a good time, learn and grow.

If you'd like to find out more about us either, look at our website. Or call one of the area managers and have a chat about it further.
