Maths Focus

My house

Recap all 2d and 3d shapes, can you remember the names? Can you recall and properties of these shapes? Use the word mats to support.

Attachment: 2D Shape Mat

Attachment: 3D Shape Mat

Once you have discussed the shapes, can you use junk modelling to build a 3d house. Or you can draw rooms in your house using 2d shapes only.

We are family

Talk about all the family members in your household. Draw an image of them all and label who they are. Lets practise estimating! How old do you think they are? How tall do you think they are? Write down your estimations and find out the correct answers. How close were you?

Getting out and about safely

It is important to leave the house to get some fresh air, a good way to do this is going to the park with your family or friends (keeping a safe distance) and doing some exercise. Do the exercise cards and remember to count the amount. If you are in school you can do this on the field!

  • Throw and catch a ball 20 times between you without dropping
  • Bounce a ball 15 times
  • Hit a ball with your friend 10 times between you
  • Jump between the hoops 25 times
  • Count how many times you can hop on one foot
  • Run between the cones 10 times, more if you can!

Food yummy food

During lockdown Mrs Mistry ate lots of cakes, biscuits and yummy treats! It’s now time to eat healthy, complete these fruit addition sums and try each worksheet, they get more trickier!

Talk like a Pirate: Listening and Movement game - https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-tp-1303-talk-like-a-pirate-listening-and-movement-game

Pupils to draw a ‘treasure map’ of their garden/ home. Obj: Parents/ carers/ siblings to hide ‘treasure’ around the area for the students to find. Students are required to mark on the map the location of each treasure.

Treasure Island: At Home Addition - Pupils to create at least two ‘islands’ in the opposite direction, within the playing area. Objective: Pupils to stand in the middle of the playing area. When instructed, pupils need to run/ move to the correct ‘island’ within a certain time (decided by a family member). Progression: Communication skills - Pupils can instruct their family members to move to the designated ‘island’, making sure they use a clear and appropriate voice level.

Land or Sea: Play with members of your family.

One person in charge with those playing standing side by side on some form of “line”. Where they are standing is “land” and in front of the line is “sea”. The person in charge calls out “land” or “sea” and players must jump into the right section. Calls get faster and in different orders to try and trick the players. If you get it wrong you lose a life or are out.

Steal the Treasure: Play with at least 2 teams (you only need one per team if you like). Each team finds 10 (maybe more) items of “treasure”, these can be anything you like. Treasure is placed in a pile on your “island” and islands are as far apart as you like. There further apart the more fun it will be! The rules of the game are that 1 person from each team needs to run to another island and steal ONE piece of treasure and return it to their island before the next person on their team must go. The game continues for a period of time 2, 3, 5 minutes it is up to you. Whichever team can steal the most treasure the fastest is the winner. You can make it harder by trying to hide where your islands are in the house or garden or awarding different pieces of treasure more points if stolen.

  • Inside my home

    • Draw a birds eye view plan of your home, measure the rooms in metres and add to your image. Challenge yourself by measuring the large furniture items too.

  • Food glorious food

    • Since we have all been home I am sure we have all eaten some yummy foods! Research online for a recipe for marble cake (recipe can be swapped for something else) , write a shopping list and take note of how much of each ingredient you will need. Go shopping/ raid your cupboard to make your cake, but remember to be accurate when measuring out ingredients. When cooking remember to use the correct maths language for the equipment too!

  • What’s the time?!

    • You can lose track of time being at home all day everyday, practise telling the time and take the quiz at the end.

Physical Activity

There have been many activities posted for physical activity during lockdown. Which ones were your favourite? Hopefully, you’ll continue to participate in some of these activities long after lockdown has finished.

Go back and try your favourites again and see if you can do more than you did previously. Or try some that you hadn’t before.

The PE staff have uploaded lots of videos of circuits training or challenges to the youtube channel. Have a look and have a go. Keep active!

Lawn Bowling: Find 10 empty bottles and arrange them into a triangle. With a ball or rolled up socks roll/throw the object to knock down as many “skittles” you can in 2 rolls/throws. 1 game is made up of 10 turns (2 rolls/throws each turn). Count up your total score and see who wins.

Target Throw: Find 5 containers (they can be the same size or different sizes) and roll 5 pairs of socks up. Place the containers in different spaces and give them points based on how difficult they will be. Take a turn to throw the rolled up socks into the containers and count up your points.

Just Dance: If you like dancing or just want to keep moving. Use Just Dance’s youtube page and enjoy their videos.
