Our Sixth Form curriculum is differentiated into themed groupings: including Year 14 who are working in general on a Basic Life Skills programme including Travel Training.

Students may move between themes depending on their ability and interests.

Options could inlcude:

  • ASDAN Towards Independence Programme.
  • Life and Living Skills, accredited by OCR.
  • Vocational studies which include: Construction, Hairdressing, Horticulture.  Accreditation through City & Guilds.
  • Entry Level, Functional Skills, GCSE and A Levels.

All our students participate in Maths, English and ICT lessons  which are delivered through age  appropriate resource materials and practical application.

It is hoped that all our sixth form students will participate in a two week work experience programme within the Autumn Term.   All our students have lessons in Work Related Learning. Many will have the opportunity to participate in our Business Enterprise Scheme: Team Enterprise.

It may be possible for some students to attend a College Link programme written to accommodate our students with their transition from Meadow High School to College: this could include accredited courses such as ASDANTowards  Independence, attendance at college and participation in the John Muir Award.

Pupils that attend the Construction course at Abbotsfield School will undertake a variety of tasks that   include: Brick Laying, Carpentry, Decorating, Health and Safety in the work place, Tiling, Painting, and Plumbing.

Pupils in the Sixth Form are given many opportunities to adapt their basic skils in a variety of vocational courses such as horticulture and hairdressing and in activities to develop their understanding of the world of work such as business enterprise initiatives and work experience.
