Pupil Attendance

Attending school and having access to learning is vitally important to
the academic, mental and social well-being of all children.

At Meadow High School we support attendance and make it a priority.

We have a Welfare team that are here to support parents and pupils to
attend school regularly.

  LEAVE A MESSAGE AS BELOW:

Please state:

  • The child's full name
  • Tutor Group (if possible)
  • Reason for absence (eg - unwell - please give specific details of the illness or absence)

PLEASE NOTIFY THE SCHOOL EVERY DAY YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT.

Please notify school everyday of your child's absence and provide medical evidence upon their return to school in the form of prescribed medication or appointment cards. The Welfare Team can give advice regarding the length of time needed off school if your child has an infectious condition.  Thank you.

Please follow up the absence with a note in your child's Link Book or a letter or email to the class teacher.

MEDICAL AND OTHER APPOINTMENTS

If your child has a medical or dental appointment during the school day, please ensure you inform the Welfare Team via the email: attendance@meadowhihschool.org.   In addition, please inform the class teacher, via the link book, in advance.   Please ensure you inform the Transport Department of any changes to transport.  We also need a copy of the appointment letter or card to keep on your child's attendance record.

Please do not ask your child's Transport Escort to pass on messages regarding absence, illness or appointments.  This information should be relayed by phone call from a parent, followed by a letter or note in the link book directly to the school.

HOLIDAY OR LEAVE DURING TERM TIME

GOVERNMENT LEGISLATION:
With effect from September 2013 the government has abolished the right of headteachers to authorise absence specifically for holidays of up to 10 days per year if special circumstance exist. Instead, headteachers will only be allowed to grant leave of absence for any reasons if they are
satisfied exceptional circumstances exist.  The effect of this change means that the government expects it to be extremely unusual for leave of absence, including for holidays in term time, to be permitted by schools.

If, due to exceptional reasons, you need to request leave of absence please submit a Leave of Absence Request Form (available from the Welfare Team) at least 4 weeks before the start of the proposed absence.
